I enabled subtitles but they don't appear to work, that's all the negative I have to say. Port seems good, runs smooth. No real options but it's just a remaster so it's fine to just have a toggle between original and enhanced graphics. Almost everyone can run it, probably.

Though, it would be good to still have AA/Supersampling options separate from that (the scaling only goes up to 100%, rather than let you go over it, weird).

Also, not the port's fault but the gunplay is hardly exciting. No real kick to the weapon animations, no real satisfying reactions to the enemies. I'm sure it's not the case but it feels like how the original Halo was back in the day. Not how it was, how I remember it. Quite plain.

Love the art style though, slick stuff, they did wonders with the 360 back then I guess.

Why not? Halo 1 was perfect with mouse (you just point camera with mouse and vehicle automatically turns this way). Or they changed it?
Never played Halo 1, 2 or any other iteration. When Halo 1 finally released on PC in Europe it had to compete with this master piece in October 2013: You see how that turned out.
But what you describe sounds about right. I guess I've played way too much Unreal Tournament as a teenager and kid (I really played that a lot!) and am just used to control vehicles with WASD and to shoot with my mouse. Feels strange and out of place to me. But if that's how it was, than sure I'll get used to it.

The game fails to log into xbox live for me, which makes the game completely unplayable. The only options are press start -> fails to log into xbox live -> back to press start screen, or alt f4 to exit.

I remember watching this and howling from laughter. Some things never change.

Seems like it’s a bit of a crapshoot with this specific game. Works fine for some, others not. Hard to imagine it’s just the servers buckling with 140k concurrent + hypothetically at least that number on GP. Hope they smooth it out soon enough.

Forza Horizon 4 also had weird audio issues for a while. I just couldn’t get sound effects playing for some reason.

Oh man, i always play / watch stuff with subtitles. Hope thats a quick fix.
As mentioned above you they do work in the cut scenes after all, but there's lots of in game chatter with no subtitles, so I thought they didn't work at all.

But I noticed crouch is broken atm, you have to stop everything you're doing, crouch, then continue.

Though I'm not sure if crouch is even needed in such a game, at first I thought there was just no crouch at all and was fine with it lol.

Yeah, I also prefer to play with subtitles.

But say what you want about the game. I'm shooting stuff at 160Hz and I've more fun than I should.

Honestly, the terrible audio mixing is taking my enjoyment from this game. I want to understand what people are saying.
I'll pause my playthrough of Reach until some patches roll in

It's very annoying that the audio is so screwed. Sound design is an integral part of the Halo series. This is the triumphant return of Halo to PC, and MS screwed up something so fundamental. If they had said, "We need another few weeks to ensure the audio is faithfully reproduced", people would have accepted it. Instead we get this shoddy product that they will almost certainly patch, but it should never have released in this state.

Why do remasters have such a persistent problem with shit audio? It's almost like the people doing the remaster work don't even sit down and listen to the games. They have to be told by audiences that everything sounds terrible. It happens over and over again.

I haven't gotten the collection of PC yet, but this does remind me of the times when I didn't own an OG Xbox, but I had purchased 2 Xbox controllers just so I could play multiplayer Halo and Halo 2 over a friend's house every week. The original Duke, and then one of the smaller ones once those were finally released.

Correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t it indicate to use Page Up and Page Down on the top right there? Those are pretty silly bindings though.

Yep but that only changes the page that you're reading, it doesn't scroll through the page

I have never played any Halo game. Is Halo: Reach worth it for the single player campaign?
It's worth it if you plan on buying the whole collection as it is a prequel to CE, 2 and 3.

Ugh, no advanced graphic settings? Just three presets? Is this a joke? :(
And the resolution doesn’t even seem to stick. Keeps reverting to my native resolution on each launch. Been an issue since the first flight I was in. Pretty sure I reported it. Not a really dealbreaker. Just annoying.

For those that have been following the PC release, may I ask:
-is this the first event for the PC version?
-how long would it take me to complete that ("beat the par score on any two snowy campaign missions")? Are those single-player missions (from the story mode, or a separate mode), or co-op?
-for someone mostly unfamiliar with the series (I only played a little bit of the first Halo), is this a good starting point? This one is a prequel, right?

1. Yes
2. Dunno, I played 8v8 PVP with friends and got it naturally in a few hours. Seems like they changed the map rotation and snow maps are more likely to appear for now.
3. Its a prequel focusing on a different cast and leads into Halo 1 and yes its a good place to start.

I guess I should just turn on subtitles and give up any idea of hearing a lot of the VO during in-game cutscenes

It's still broken.

This is a known-issue we had at launch and work on this is in progress. Our goal is to get this out ASAP.
btw they have been saying this since the Beta and nothing changed since.

Played Reach for a bit and honestly feels like I'm participating in an early access game :p the sound is shit, there were some graphical/streaming glitches here and there (although very minor, some graphical effects also don't scale with res) and the game seems to hate alt-tab or whatever on my end, it was a fucking pain to alt tab to my steam controller config window because it kept freezing, it's fine when I disable big picture and not alt-tab.

The game is fun with a steam controller. The single player campaign is okay, but I feel like the early combat sections are too small/short/not too interesting and there are too many boring sections inbetween on top of some long cutscenes, it gets a bit better after the first few levels but still feels disjointed compared to early Halo games.

It's all good except the part where they still haven't fixed some of that shit and I paid for the entire package :p

I guess they probably won't add subtitles to ingame dialogues because I bet that's way too hard for a small company like microsoft.

CE is a really nice game, tbh, I beat it not so long ago, so, it will be really fast.

Nice. I didn't think it'd be released today so I started playing Doom.

Played the intro a bit, I think I like the old graphics better, it's great they let you choose between the two and you could toggle it in real time. The framerate doesn't seem smooth on my end though, maybe I'll try it at lower res later.

I don't know the difference because the movement speed should be the same but yeah Halo CE feels better to play to me even without the silly dash ability.

I think I'm getting framerate drops with the original graphics but not the updated ver lol

yup im not sure why everyone rates reach online always thought it wasnt that good in the grand scheme, the battles never really felt good alot of backtracking to begining of level to end level too.

The last level in Reach was the best part (before the epilogue), but that went by kind of quick, I feel like the game's pacing just don't flow very well and are mostly small-ish areas that connect together weirdly, it feels like too much distractions and it end up being not a very memorable campaign.

Normal difficulty seems harder than I remember, I played through the custom edition a while ago mostly drunk so I don't remember it too well, but I finished it other than skipping the flood level, the AIs here move around a lot more. Reach was pretty easy as well.
