|OT| MetaConsole | Here we can talk about anything regarding consoles

If I knew Monster Hunter Wilds would run at 60 FPS on the Pro I'd trade in my Series X and base PS5 for it and get it for like $200. I know there's the PC version, but my place is set up that I can't use an ethernet cable for remote play and using Wi-Fi for an action game is kinda iffy IMO.

I suspect a lot of the game's features will have online capabilities, locking many of the game's features behing PS Plus.

Been playing Stellar Blade, it's a fun game but it also has its share of tedium in terms of exploration, holy that Great Desert place is a chore, so much running around.

Looks so delightful. My god. I still haven't played Dream Team and Paper Jam but now extremely tempting to jump into this one.

Finally, confirmation on backward compatibility of Switch 2
Thank goodness. I have a ton of physical Switch games (not a literal ton). I hope Nintendo offers upgrade patches, but I won't get my hopes up.

Same, I want my 1080p Xenoblade and 60fps Zelda but at the end of the day it is big N.

I was going to get Mario & Luigi Brothership, but according to Digital Foundry the frame pacing is bad. This is a deal breaker to Mario games so I am waiting to see if it will be enhanced on Switch 2 before purchasing.

The Switch XenobladeX listing is up on Amazon.jp. 7700 JPY (~$75 AUD approx).

Also, this version is based on the US/EU version, so coomers will have to cope by playing the JP WiiU version instead if they want to see Lin's risqué swimsuit.

I traded in my Xbox Series X to Gamestop for $260 yesterday. First time I've been inside one of those in years. I'll use that money towards the Switch 2 when it comes out.

For some reason, the PS5 Pro has been hard to find.
It's readily available in America. The hard part is finding a disc drive.

I finally got my PS5 pro!

I had to create a new PSN account because Sony is so behind the times that they won't let you change country on your account...

Anyway! Add me Le_Pertti
Oh shit great news, congrats! Did you get a game with it?

A few weeks ago, after the PS5 pro had more or less been fully leaked but before it had officially been revealed, I traded in my PS5 at my local game store. The shopkeeper had told me that I'd get a better price if I sold it then as compared when new hardware was available. The plan was to wait a few weeks and then buy the pro console when it became available. Unfortunately, after total silence leading up to the launch date, Sony finally announced that the console wouldn't be releasing at all in my country. The stated reason is that the console has a Wifi 7 chip which uses frequency spectrum that the government does not approve for civilian use. Nobody knows if Sony will be able to get the hardware approved for release in the future. There are grey market imports from other countries that are available but they are super overpriced ($1000 USD and more) and then you'd have to find a disc drive and the supply of those has dried up as well. So today I went back to the game shop and bought a PS5 slim with disc drive.

So basically, my plan went up in flames and I ended up losing about $200 while swapping my fat PS5 from launch for a slim variant now. Feel pretty silly because it was partly my fault for rushing to sell off the old machine but also, there was practically no way to predict what happened with the release getting cancelled

So here's the new hardware

As embarrassing and frustrating as this must feel for you, I can’t put the blame neither on your logic not on the shopkeeper’s advice. It’s the very definition of shit happens.

Just came out of nowhere. The 6Ghz spectrum used by the chip is currently only available to the military and space organization in my country. Here's something interesting though... Apple released the iPhone 16 a few weeks ago and that has a Wifi 7 chip on it as well. The difference obviously is that Apple is a megacorp and they are investing billions in the country to expand their manufacturing footprint. The govt. wants them to be happy and invest even more so they likely bent over backwards to accommodate Apple when this problem must have arisen. Sony on the other hand is not quite as big and the total market for the Pro consoles here is probably just a few thousand units so they couldn't or didn't push too hard for it. Or maybe it's just the wheels of the govt. moving really slowly to get it approved. The thing is, in the future, a whole lot of devices are going to use the same radios so is the government just going to keep banning all new hardware releases? They have to come up with a proper solution. Telecom companies like Vodafone have been telling the govt. to do something about it but bureaucratic inertia is the most powerful force in the world. But if the puzzle pieces were to fall into place there's still a chance, albeit small, that Sony can get the device approved for release here. I only really wanted it to play GTA 6 in it's best possible form so I can wait and hope for it to happen for another year. And if it does officially release here, then I'll go and trade in this Slim one all over again. I did talk to my shopkeeper and he said he'd give me a good deal if that were to happen.

Meanwhile I got a copy of Astro Bot so I'm hoping to play that soon. And I somehow lost my copy of Stellar Blade. These games are too expensive to just lose like that :\

I was checking out Xbox emu XEMU and while many games have issues (on my PC at least, many don't perform great, but there are also issues not based on the given PC performance, like rendering order, you can see through walls or shit disappear, assets that don't load all their materials or something and appear black etc.), I tried Otogi and wow, that game's much better than I expected. I thought it'd be way clunkier but it's like, Ninja Gaiden levels/progression meets Demon's Souls in story and style. Gameplay somewhere inbetween, not so heavy like DS, not so combo based Character Action like Gaiden (yet). Solid stuff. Performance in the emu goes to shit on stage 2 and the protag is a black mesh, oh well. Cool to see. So much stuff in the levels are breakable when you finish it's just a heightmap in spots, lol. Trees, gone, pillars ,gone, fences, gone, doors gone, even destroyed some staircase in one and then barely managed to get on the top floor like I was supposed to, lol. Also very satisfying how your strong attack launches small enemies miles back and/or until they slam into something with a bang/debris etc. (and breaking breakables mentioned I think). I really thought it'd be a charming jankfest that's unsurprisingly forgotten but it's a gem.

Lol lmao, if Rebirth PC released at the same time as PC, I can't comprehend how little I would use my PS5. And if Astrobot hadn't released too, oh boy.

So maybe release in Summer (July/August) instead of Fall.

Otherwise it will be a long wait after April.

Since the thing is a just bigger and no crazy gimmicks. I am leaning 400$ and not more.

I've read that the new Joycons are supposed to have some sort of mouse emulation gimmick.

Sure but this still doesn't excuse them from doing a better and more planned reveal.

Stealth dropping hardware trailers early morning will never be effective. They should have given this trailer to Keighley for TGAs. It would have been better imo but wtvr.

Also its not like big publishers are gonna announce new games before the summer games fests anyways. Random tweets won't get the same attention as a big direct or event.

Smaller devs will wait for the summer as well to ride the PR waves of bigger announcements otherwise announcing something soon could be forgotten by the time the Switch 2 actually launches. There could be delays too etc.

Yeah, the announcement is long overdue, should have announced it sooner. I think that the shadow drop is fine. It was reaching my friend circle in no time. But the direct is a long wait, and I hope that no software leaks will happen (although the chance is very slim).

Software has started already leaking. Don't tell anyone, but I can say with a high degree of confidence that a new Mario Kart is coming. Don't even ask me how I know that. Shit is top secret :thumbsupblob:

Nintendo doesn't officially release their stuff in my country so will have to buy it through the usual grey/black market channels at a premium. This time around I want to wait for at least a couple (or few) games I'm interested in to arrive before I get it. A 3D Mario (Odyssey 2?) would be one of them. There's a nearly non-existent chance of it happening but Animal Crossing would do it as well, although I hope it's dramatically better than the last one. But the one game that would make every single one of you buy the system is obviously the remaster of Bloodborne :evilblob:

At this rate Sony need to release it everywhere to recoup the loss from their GaaS endeavour. :p

3D Mario being a launch window release is a popular theory among fans, so you may get your wish granted.

If money permit, I will likely get my hands on one on day 1. I have more than a few unopened Switch games because I want to play them on Switch 2, presumably with better performance. Xenoblade X will join those games soon. Also want to go through all mainline Xenoblade games again. That's around 800 hours of gameplay already lol. New games-wise, I honestly have no expectations. New Zelda are years away, Fire Emblem may show up but I still haven't opened Three Houses. Monolith Soft is definitely cooking something but probably coming out next year? I will just keep my mind open and hoping the big N can deliver surprises.

If the launch is during the summer....they would be smart to release a new 3D Mario for the holidays. So just in time for them to sell 10-15 million units worldwide. And then push the holidays with a Mario bundle.

So launch titles will be Mario Kart + a bunch of popular 3rd party AAA + Indie games.

Then for Oct/Nov you do a new Mario and/or Pokemon.

Throw in Metroid Prime 4 into the mix whenever its ready and I think that will make for a strong first year software lineup. From there they coast easy into year 2.

Great compilation of current Switch 2 software rumors.

Edit: Pretty sure that I saw a 3D Mario rumor somewhere else. :confused-face:

Hopefully Metroid Prime 4 is Switch 2 enhanced. I also hope Nintendo goes back and does upgrade patches for their older games (i.e. the Zelda). Of course this is Nintendo we're talking about and $60 Switch 2 native versions seem more likely.

Im afriad, looking at social medias and nintendo focused forums, a lot of people will be settling for a lot of dissapointments. They are viewing the Switch 2 as the second coming of christ that will bring all 3rd party titles to the Switch 2.

I feel the need to ask

Does it say more about Cyberpunk 2077's Netrunner/Quickhack system, or more about other RPGs concepts of "Magic" that, well

Netrunning in Cyberpunk 2077 feels more like "True Magic" than most "spellcaster gameplay" in other modern RPGs?

Well the way I look at it is that most major 3rd party devs will try their best to release their games on the Switch 2 for 4-5 years tops. Then afterwards 3rd party support will start to dry up just like it did for the Switch 1. At least with any ports the Switch 2 does get will be beneficial for the Steam Deck.
