|OT| MetaConsole | Here we can talk about anything regarding consoles

I hope we see a sequel to this among those certain to continue (Metroid/Prime, Xenoblade, 3D/2DMario, Kirby, Splatoon, Kart, Smash, Zelda, Fire Emblem, etc.).

Great compilation of current Switch 2 software rumors.

Edit: Pretty sure that I saw a 3D Mario rumor somewhere else. :confused-face:

Hopefully Metroid Prime 4 is Switch 2 enhanced. I also hope Nintendo goes back and does upgrade patches for their older games (i.e. the Zelda). Of course this is Nintendo we're talking about and $60 Switch 2 native versions seem more likely.

Im afriad, looking at social medias and nintendo focused forums, a lot of people will be settling for a lot of dissapointments. They are viewing the Switch 2 as the second coming of christ that will bring all 3rd party titles to the Switch 2.

I feel the need to ask

Does it say more about Cyberpunk 2077's Netrunner/Quickhack system, or more about other RPGs concepts of "Magic" that, well

Netrunning in Cyberpunk 2077 feels more like "True Magic" than most "spellcaster gameplay" in other modern RPGs?

Well the way I look at it is that most major 3rd party devs will try their best to release their games on the Switch 2 for 4-5 years tops. Then afterwards 3rd party support will start to dry up just like it did for the Switch 1. At least with any ports the Switch 2 does get will be beneficial for the Steam Deck.

Probably of no interest to most but I've always been fond of this game's engine/visuals (the game itself not as much, it's not the best Thunder but still neat) yet have been unable to find and show good quality footage that is not emulated, is full 60fps and shows more than indoor tracks. Until this video just now, yay.

Just out (video is old cos it was to show it off before release and they just edited it with the new info).

The unauthorised but welcome Princess Crown translation fork keeps coming into its own great too.
The EX version includes improvements like higher horizontal resolution, transparencies & new icons.

I bought my copy of Xenoblade X DE, but I'm probably going to wait until the Switch 2 launch to play it because of that hidden 60 fps mode that was data mined. I loved the game when I played it 10 years ago and I'm quite curious about the new story content and how it will expand upon the original ending.

So the days after the Switch 2 direct Treehouse will be doing gameplay live streams so we'll get a good look at some games even outside scripted trailers, yay.

14 hours to go.

Just finished watching the direct, very meh on it. Lack of suprises, lack of interesting 3rd party games coming to it (not that I would buy any 3rd party games, but was still interesting in seeing what it would get), console itself seems like half a generational jump, like Switch 1.5.

Will wait on this one.

Yeah, I’m not too enthusiastic about it. I’m sure it’ll be a great system, but I’m getting 3DS energy from it versus the optimism and originality of the Switch.

Is that a bad thing? Not per-se, but the games don’t exactly appeal either.

I’ve only glanced at some of the Switch 2 stuff, and don’t plan on buying one for a very long time.

But man does Donkey Kong look fun. To me that’s the “killer app”, not Mario Kart.

All three showcases so far are pretty great. I noticed a few framerate hiccups during Mario Kart. Hopefully they can iron them out before launch.

Same, but the scale and detail of the courses is pretty crazy on top of the open world they're in. Love the inclusion of the continuous elimination racing mode without the interruptions between the courses and the world segments leading from one to the other making each its own separate little race, it'd be a waste to make it all seamless technically and then only be able to play in segments. Very Outrun-esque or like Daytona USA 2's final course being an all in one montage.

Prime looks so great visually and in its distinct gameplay style too even after I watched the new Doom DF video which is obviously miles ahead technically.

Donkey Kong looks like it tries to do for action/collectathon platformers what BOTW did for Zelda with these massive and kind of freeform levels you can climb all over, smash all over, etc., of course there are limits and areas that aren't so breakable to maintain structure and design but yeah, it looks quite well done, though I don't think the visual style of Donkey Kong's world is nearly as charming as what they've been doing with the Mushroom Kingdom/worlds.

Anyway, really great presenters/players as usual from Treehouse (as someone who doesn't generally watch gameplay streams, youtubers etc.).

Ex-Nintendo employees talking about how Nintendo lost control of messaging for Switch 2's prices and how they're in the unusual position of being on defense for the topic. tl;dw: Nintendo has been flying high the past few years and hasn't been in a real crisis so they haven't been able to muster a response to the prices. Also there's no guiding figure like Iwata or Reggie who is more in tune with what users want and it's probably run by bean counters and suits.

There's a side-by-side comparison between Switch 1 and 2 at the beginning.

I don’t think Nintendo has been completely blindsided by this pricing talk. They clearly worked very hard to keep the US price down at everyone else’s (except Japan’s) expense.

Feels like an unavoidable problem to me. I’m not defending them, but I think the nickel and diming and overpriced games comes down to them thinking this thing will sell less.

Watching some of the Treehouse footage from yesterday...and yea Bananza looks really good. The gameplay is fluid and all the level looked very fun/detailed. Everything is fast too. Pretty good display of the Switch 2 power.

Gotta give credit to Nintendo for still being one of the few big devs to put so much $$$ and detail into 3D platformers. Be it an action or regular platformer. Xbox really needs to do this for Banjo.

Prime 4 looked alright but fairly basic and dated imo. Not something I'm particularly hyped for.

And yea the new Mario Kart looks very ambitious with all the off road stuff. And its heavily populated. It definitely something people will spend a lot of time with. I still don't see how it warrants such a price jump but Nintendo knows they will get away with. The last Mario Kart sold so much its pretty much up there with COD and Rockstar stuff so Nintendo taking advantage.

They will just increase the price for EU and keep the US the same.
I think further price hikes in Europe would be untenable now they’ve announced the price and admitted the pre-order delay (ostensibly only in America) is due to tariffs.

If they’re not raising the price in the US, they may flood other markets with consoles and throttle US supply to reduce losses on per unit sales until the landscape settles.
