|OT| MetaConsole | Here we can talk about anything regarding consoles

This caught my eye the other day, and I’m pretty interested. I dig the thought of having a small roller and trackball for classic games that make use of them.
With the ever increasing cost of gaming, I find myself looking back to the classic stuff I grew up playing, and this looks pretty easy to throw emulators onto.

Does anyone here have one of these?

I like Salmon Run in Splatoon but didn't feel anything when watching this. Don't think this is worth $60 at its current state unless Nintendo are hiding some twists to be revealed in later trailers.

Hugely terrible DRM has now been rolled out to all PS4 and PS5 digital games. Every digital game you buy now requires an online check-in every 30 days. If you buy a digital game and don't connect your console to the internet for 30 days, your license will be removed.

Games you bought in the past seem to not have this issue, but any game you buy from now on will only work for 30 days without an online check-in. This can NOT be avoided by using "Activate console as primary". All digital games now die after 30 days for all owners.

So you have to keep your console signed in at least once a month to continue to play games?

LMAO Sony.

I known it isn't revoking a license, as some people believe, but this is still a shitty thing to do and totally won't motivate people to hack the system.

I know that the overall scores for Saros are good, but Im still somewhat dissapointed, haven't read much, but a quick observation is that some negatives is about the story.

Still, Returnal was great and Ive very much enjoyed their other work too (Next Machina was the goat, Resogun was great, Super Stardust was great).

I have no idea what to exactly make of the story, feels like a lot of things have already happened and I was thrown into something in medias res style.

Like the game expects me to know a lot of things already, also in terms of gameplay.

I liked Returnal's start a lot more. but who knows, maybe the more I play, the better understanding I get for why the game started the way it did.

However, game looks gorgeus (playing on base PS5, not using my console enough to care about buying a Pro) so Im happy with that and sound design is also good.

It uses the dualsense features greatly, but I expect to get tired of haptics and such at some point (it's always fun at the start, but then the haptics tends to get tiring).

Console gaming. Hmm. I like Zelda, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, and Metroid. Always looking forward to a new one of any of those.

So I guess with the news that Sony is getting out of PC gaming we won’t see Yotei on PC. That’s kind of a bummer. I have a PS4 Pro that’s mostly used for watching blu ray on the bedroom TV and I popped Tsushima in the other day.

If you get some more time in could you post how long runs are compared to Returnal and if there's more of a meta progression system with permanent upgrades? Those were the two things I didn't like about that game as there wasn't much reason to stick around and runs took forever.

I'm interested in the game but 76 bones is a big ask for a roguelite.

Yeah, sure can do that. I bought it as a retailer had it for cheaper than expected, otherwise, no way in hell I would buy it full price.

Im also reading a lot of mixed things about the game, some enjoying the story, some being the story is dissapointing compared to Returnal, some saying is there even a story here (Cohh Carnage).

Also very suprised reading that some are finishing the game with platinum and all after just 15 hours. Some saying the first boss is very hard, then the rest of the bosses are very easy.

Mixed impressions from people about the weapons (like the shotgun being weak).

Returnal didn't have so much difference in peoples first impression.

I didn't know that's happening. Looks kinda sweet. Didn't even recognize it's a remake of 64. Wish they did some stylization, like puppets or something. I guess rail shooter beggars can't be choosers. I hope it leads to a new game (since it's basically 1:1 so not exactly super fresh). And more games in the genre (Sega plz).

Starfox looks quite good. I like it.

Btw, it was leaked by Nate alongside Ocarina of Time remake. I guess the latter is really happening.

Google tells me they said new StarFox game, not remake specifically, so if they specified remake for OoT I don't see why they wouldn't specify it for Starfox...

If that search was true then it sounds like a guess that ended up somewhat true because it wasn't that far fetched to begin with, rather than a real insider tip.

Yeah he specifically said Ocarina "remake" but not Starfox remake. My guess is that when he saw / heard about them, Starfox being a remake of 64 isn't as obvious as Ocarina of Time. Nate also has good track record about knowing things so I believe in him.

But then again, not sure how to feel about a remake of Ocarina of Time. Hopefully they do it justice.

Hold onto your butts because Sony is doing the unthinkable and showing Playstation player counts.

This is weekly active users, but it's still great to get this kind of info in the first place.

Fortnite: 14.6m
GTA 5: 5.13m
Minecraft: 4.97m
Call of Duty: 4.95m
Apex Legends: 1.72m
Marvel Rivals: 1.58m
Battlefield 6: 1.51m
ARC Raiders: 972k

Fortnite and GTA are about what I expected. Call of Duty is way lower than I thought it would be.

Picked up Ghost of Yotei for 44$ at a retailer here, cheapest I've ever seen it at, it is bascially 50% of from the full price, curious if it is a price error or not, so jumped on the deal.

Re: New Xenoblade

Fuck I hate academy setting, but finally a new Xenoblade...

Going to get a Switch 2 around late 2026 / early 2027

I got Xenoblade Chronicles 1 last year but I only put in a couple of hours on Switch 2. I told myself that I would wait for them to update the game to run at a higher resolution and frame-rate. Only downside is that it's a paid upgrade but if they are adding more content for each game then it takes the the sting out a bit.

Okay, watch the new Xenoblade Genesis trailer for a few times more. First impression wasn't great because I don't like academy settings. But now I can see the potential: the world is basically inside of a sphere. What if there's an outside world? You can see the sky being the ocean and other continents, so it means that the 6 suns are floating at the center of the sphere. Why is that?

I should have placed my faith on Takahashi. Man knows how to surprise people. Now I'm hyped. Need a Switch 2 soon so I can also replay the remaining 4 games.

It seems like a good direct but I wonder how all these meaty unoptimized AAAs from PS5/PC will run on Switch 2, Onimusha, Dragon's Dogma 2, Monster Hunter Wilds etc. The trailers seemed fine visually except for stuff you'd expect to struggle like Space Marine II's upscaling artifacts and lesser performance.

DMCV being 60fps doesn't mean much since it had a last gen version too, you'd expect it to get a 'miracle port' with heavy concessions on Switch 1 too.

I had ignored Rayman, I thought it'd be just a remaster. Kinda weird the original was meant to go back to 2D excellence etc., now it's a 3D remake.

Dagon Quest Monsters looking nice, it was weird they didn't show it at all on announcement alongside DQXII.

Pokopia is gonna keep selling like crazy I guess, that update looked nice, who knew Pokemoncraft Crossing would be a thing huh.

Fire Emblem Gladiator should be good but I think I'd tire of the arena, however varied the layouts may be for each battle.

The new Xenoblade looks like quite the departure, the whole academy or AoT-esque stuff. Kind of Atlus style.

I'm a fan of Wii Sports but not when gameplay tech is basically 2006 Wii level, if not worse given lack of sensor bar etc., especially having played 1:1 VR games.

Final Fantasy Resonance looks nice but I do think it's pointless to do SNES-like sprites, they don't even fit the rest of the visuals any more, bring them on par.

From's game looks sweet but still meh @ the online gass type focus for me. Barely shown anyway.

DayZ still a thing, lol...

When did KH go grimdark like that, it seems off without the disney pixar art style (I get that's old news though).

Ocarina of Time looks way off the mark from that little tidbit with the narrator vibe and everything, to me OoT was epic, immersive, almost imm-sim style with its interactions, not cinematically driven (however cool the intro and other scenes are), but I guess the rest could be faithful as on the 3DS.

Anyway, good direct, shows they're getting a lot of software support and it can handle most things thrown at it gracefully enough with some exceptions.
