All right. Why didn't anyone tell me that learning to skateboard at almost 35 was a bad idea? I wanted to feel what it was like to ride fakie, tried to skate a wet (yeah... wet...) half-pipe, slid on dat mornin' dew and ate shit. Oddly enough I fell on my right butt cheek but it's my left leg that hurts when I try to lift it (as if the shock wave traveled sideways through my ass and did something to where the quad connects to the hip).

Is there an official geriatric skateboarding thread on MC?
I walked by the skate park today and felt my knees buckle at the thought.

you are all going to buy HZD, play it and ENJOY IT 😡 😡 :dualbladesblob::coffee-blob:
I can deal with animations updating at locked 30fps, I can deal with no AF, I can even deal with having to turn down settings and brute forcing the game.

I can't deal with regular stutters though.
If I have them, I'll stop playing and give them a couple days to do something about it. If they don't I'm going to refund the game.

By the way, the game can eat 21GB of system memory.

is the performance on HZD really that bad? Is it so bad that it's unplayable?
It's not unplayable, but it needs a real brute force to achieve smooth 60fps. Like super high end PCs. 30fps locked will be easily achievable by the mainstream PCs, but I can't imagine PC gamers settling with 30fps. And that's the problem with the port, it has a relatively low requirement to achieve 30fps, but 60fps is out of the question for most.

Steam reviews are gonna be wild.

I don't even think performance is that terrible if you are willing to turn down certain settings. But there are two problems that I'd describe as severe:

1. ) Constant, regular stutters. That would be the game unplayable for me.

2. ) Some cards seem to be under performing, like the GTX 1060 (in dictators video about the game). You'd think it's an Nvidia Maxwell architecture problem or drivers, but the biggest Nvidia Maxwell GPU, the GTX 1080Ti, seems to be doing fine (relative to its competition):

Death Stranding, 1080p, ultra:

1080Ti : 130.6 FPS
2070S: 127.8 FPS
5700XT OC: 140 FPS
Vega VII: 125.9

HZD, 1080p, ultra:

1080Ti: 49.4FPS
2070S: 50.6 FPS
5700XT OC: 50.4 FPS
Vega VII: 43.4 FPS

All those cards are expected to perform "similar"

And to proof that it's not an isolated Nvidia problem, let's take a look at AMD Vega performance in HZD and Death Stranding:

DS 1080p, ultra

RX 590: 71.5 FPS
Vega 64: 109.8FPS

HZD 1080p, ultra

RX 590: 27.8 FPS
Vega 64: 28.3 FPS

FPS are from PCGH.de

But with variable refresh rates isn't the 60ish still great?
VRR tech makes sub 60 usable, but the stutters Dictator demonstrated (and the devs acknowledged) are not happening because fps and refresh rate are running out of sync. They are small pauses and VRR can't help with that.

I will.

In a few years, Hopefully I am still alive. 😆

I am also technically unemployed as I am waiting to go back to Japan and join back my colleagues. Man... covid sucks.

Best of luck and take care.
Yeah covid blows. I had to move back to my home town after it all hit and ive just been sitting around waiting for the chance to do something other than sit around and feel like a burden on my family. But I guess its times like these you gotta stay optimistic.

Take care and hopefully things will get better soon:photoblobheart:

DF said that locked 30 is not even possible because it become 29fps max.

It's what I've been feeling my whole life. I saw a little boy on the tram yesterday and told to myself 'oh, the thing I will probably never experience'.
It's 9.48 am, this is going to be a splendid day, isn't it ?

This. I also wonder if it's possible to get a decent framerate by lowering some settings. People tend to scream that performance is bad if they can't get 60 FPS on ultra settings, while many of these games run fine on very high or high settings. Not saying this is the case for HZD of course.

Define 'shortly', pretty please :p
:cho:

I never got into Spelunky, not sure why, but will give the second one a try! Everyone seem to really love the first one.
It is not a game for everyone. If you did not like the first one, you should skip the second one imo.

For me, I had to try the game three times (once every 6 months) before it finally clicked after maybe 10-20 hours.

Except for the initial stutters, that went away after an hour or so Death Stranding ran perfectly fine for me.
Spent nearly 50h in the game (and finished it).
I am over 70 and just got to higgs chapter which is 9 or 10

I honestly think it's the millions of post boxes everywhere. Literally all I get, I have to make everything else lol.

Yeah I haven't really even tried it fully, just tried it shortly in coop. I'm sure I could like it. So at this point I might as well wait for the new one.

I'll launch it and have a go but if the performance is poor, which is highly likely, its going to be refunded. Sad really, I expected better.

"an astronomically good PC experience […] If you haven’t played Horizon Zero Dawn yet, you should have absolutely no qualms about grabbing it now"

What do Dictator and Durante think of that

:H02hmm:
Well, if you have a fast PC then it's not that far off, it's probably the most beautiful "AAA spectacle open world action adventure" type game you can play. And it also seems well made in terms of gameplay systems, story and so on.

Personally, I've switched to playing PSO2 after 6 hours, but it's not my genre / type of experience so I wouldn't hold that against it :p
I might actually go back to it at some point, and that's saying quite a bit.

Man if there is one argument i cant stand when it comes to all this exclusivity stuff its..

'Its just business bro'.

Ill never understand why people go to bat for these massive companies and excuse shitty business practices because its their favourite shiny box (well, i do understand, i was young and stupid once too).

FYI on beta, Genshin PS4 run worse than mobile. Yes a phone can run Genshin better than PS4.
Apparently runs at native 4k on the PS4Pro while not being able to hold 30 fps, lol. Weird priorities, they have.

Looking forward to it a lot though, everything I've seen from it looks really good.

I have those moments too but I frame them in a positive light : "I was right, this is what normal should look like".

Time is long, please consider that wonderful things may await you :)

This just happened again today.

Steam logged off my account and after I relog-in everything got reset, from general settings (library size, download, etc) to friends and chat (notifications for friends joining a game). Does this happen regularly for everyone else? Probably like once in a month or two.

Any ideas why I can't log into the Steam store in Firefox? It just hangs on a loading circle at the point Steam guard should be prompting for a code. Getting this behaviour on two different systems. Chrome works fine but I'd rather not have to switch to that just to use one website.

Tried clearing cookies, cache and disabling augmented Steam but no change.
