First is still my favourite game in the series. I felt they got weaker as they went more open world.

Plus I don't think any of them had anything as good as the nightmare sequences with the scarecrow.
Since I played Arkham Origins the latest I say that Origins the best so far. At least better than Knights. Asylum and City I don't remember so much of. But why I pick Origins is partly because of the awesome boss fight with Deathstroke. Which I think must be one of the best boss fight in the series. Some say that the fight with Freeze is better, but I cannot remember so much of it either

Yeah, origins comes in second for me. I enjoyed the story in it a lot. And the Deathstroke fight is a stand out moment.

Plus 100% less Titan fights. That last fight in asylum is horrible.

Nothing is preventing him to play the game on Steam though.
If he has played a lot of the game on game pass it can be very hard or demotivating to start from the beginning on Steam. That's why I only use game pass as a demo service until mine lapses next summer.

Cloud gaming (with the mainstream providers, i.e. ones that don't just host a virtualized PC session you have control over) is, in my opinion, even more console than console gaming, in a way. What I mean by that is that you have equally little control over your experience, and even less ownership in practice.
and thats why i said its wet dream of publishers

Are savegames compatible? Because those tech issues only got that bad after a recent patch. And starting fresh probably isn't an option anymore if you've already put 20hrs into a game so you're stuck with a worse version. I'll use GP for Psychonauts 2 because it's a 10hr-one-playthrough game but for anything bigger I'll rather spend money on Steam even though Ascent seem to be an exceptionally bad one. Wonder why.

In theory, it should not be too hard to move save files around.

Are savegames compatible?
If they are not, it is scandalous. Based on PCGamingWiki, the config files have similar locations, so these should be compatible, I guess.

Not sure what to understand from this table regarding the absence of save game data location.

Well sure, but's only in theory. Game pass does whatever it wants to do sometime regardless of what the end-user wants. For his sake I hope it's easy to move around save files. Plus, are the Steam and WStore versions compatible with each other (patching and stuff like that)?

We are talking about save files. The best devs use text-based save files. There should not be any daunting technical issue about saving a few numbers in a text file. If some devs choose to have incompatible save files for different stores on PC, then it is scandalous.

True. :toucan:

However, this simple work-around to migrate a save file from Game Pass to Steam is supposed to be effective:
1. Have both versions installed with a profile created on each!

The Game Pass version's save (to my knowledge) does not show up if the game is not installed and has been run recently, so have it installed so it this guide is easier to follow.

You should also create a throwaway save on the Steam version so that it creates the file pathway I will give you in this guide to follow.
2. Getting Your Save from Game Pass

If you had gone through the initial set up, your file pathway to The Ascent's game saves on Game Pass should look like (or similar to):
  • C:/Users/<your username>/AppData/Local/Packages/CurveDigital.TheAscent_<string>/SystemAppData/wgs/<string>
You will see 2 folders and 1 index file. Because of how Game Pass handles saving things, both folders contain the same save, just one folder has the "regular" save and the second folder has the "backup" save.

Within either folder you will see a file named as a very long string and a container file. The file you want to copy somewhere safe so it can be renamed and moved over is the very long string one.
3. Moving Your Save to Steam

If you had gone through the initial set up, your file pathway to The Ascent's game saves on Steam should look like (or similar to):
  • C:/Users/<your username>/AppData/Local/TheAscent/Saved/SaveGames
Here you will see the throwaway save that you would have made if you followed my initial setup as well as a steam_autocloud.vdf file if you have it turned on in the properties of the game.

Turn off the cloud save feature while you move your save over. This can be done by:

Right clicking The Ascent in your Steam game library -> Left clicking Properties -> General tab -> Un-check the "Keep games saves in the Steam Cloud for The Ascent" under Steam Cloud

With that done:
  1. Delete both the SaveProfiles.sav and SaveProfiles_Backup.sav from Steam's save location.
  2. Rename your copied Game Pass save file to SaveProfiles.sav.
  3. Move it over to Steam's save location.
  4. Press play on Steam.
You should be greeted by your character moved over and upon resuming game, Steam should create a SaveProfiles_Backup.sav of your copied save.

Now you can turn back on Steam's auto cloud feature if you wish.

Not for grandmas and grandpas. :evilblob:

I remember doing something similar recently with the Steam Cloud shenanigan. For Okami for sure, and maybe for another game as well.

Edit: That was for cleaning up my save files for Yakuza 0.

Fixed my CheatHappens TrainerManager issue and it was one i thought to try yesterday but didn't as i was trying other things and playing Minecraft while watching VTubers. Going to trust my instincts from now on.

For some reason the CheatHappens TrainerManager requires Admin/UAC Elevation... but as lashman said this breaks Webview2 and is never going to be fixed as Microsoft say this is how it is supposed to work, there's a few tickets on github they closed saying "Deal With It.". I only login as Admin on my machine for like 10 minutes once or twice a year to do serious stuff and elevate from a normal user all the other times. I have posted the "fix" a few times already, it's our old friend "RunAsInvoker"!

Open Notepad, paste this in, change the exe name in "NAME-OF-APPLICATION", save the file as .cmd into the same folder as the exe and Bingo! TrainerManager works.
Code:
@echo off

set __COMPAT_LAYER=RunAsInvoker
start "" "%~dp0NAME-OF-APPLICATION.exe"
It also works on any app that demands admin elevation but doesn't really need it.

I'm having a hard time trying do describe Psychonauts 2.

It has some very "old school" (from the first game) feel sometimes like in the pacing, level design, or even some aspects of the graphics, that I'm sure will put some people off. But at the same time it plays so well, can also look beautiful and has more charm than probably anything else I played this year.

I think the best I can say is that it's very Double Fine game, but without the usual problems in the gameplay and polish side.

But in the end here is what matters: After 4 hours of playing I can only say this: Joy :)

Started and finished Xanadu Next this week. I'm glad I gave it a shot. Had some minor misgivings with how sometimes you had to grind a level to even do damage to enemies and this one enemy somehow caused me to lose a level which was pretty fucked, but it didn't sour me on it. A very comfy game with an aesthetic that has aged pretty well, and it doesn't overstay its welcome. Neato.

I should play through all these new Bamco Supermassive games one day.

I enjoyed Until Dawn. It was kind of dumb fun.

Apparently updated overlay for Hajimari is coming today/soon. I'm waiting for some more reviews on quality of the port since the price here is rough.
