Maybe there's a public for these games?

I admit I enjoyed both Double Dragon IV, and Stay Cool, Kobayashi-Sas!: A River City Ransom Story.

And, I like the "fake", retro 8-bit style (usually actually better than what could be pulled with original 8-bit hardware) featured in games like Mega Man 9 and 10, most Inti Creates titles, and Shovel Knight.

A clean, decent pixel art "retro" look, with smooth gameplay, fits well with beat'em up and platformer games, in my opinion.
But why that pseudo NES 8 bit style when we could have Double Dragon Arcade 8 bit style? When Double Dragon Advance exists?
There is an audience for good beat'em ups, too bad most current developers do not know the difference between a good one and a mediocre one.

I do not think that the game's visual design is the primary reason for how poor that game is.
It's one of the big issues, you have this huge 16:9 screen real state and its empty most of the time.

Honestly, I thought the pseudo 8 bit style was over 2 years ago.

After playing Prey and trying the Mooncrash DLC I was a bit wary of it being a pseudo roguelite, but after playing the first part I think this could actually work.

Still contemplating wherever or not to go through Persona 5 after Im done with FFVI on PC.

Either it is because that maybe Im just gonna get the Royal version or a hope that P5 will release on PC.
Same thing with Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5 HD. Still have hope for a PC version.
At this point if you want to play Personal 5, go with Royal if you have PS4.

If you don't have PS4 your only option is either emulate Persona 5 or pray for Atlus to make sense.

Temtem stress test keys is out, you'll get two keys.

TLOU as game of the decade?

...

There would be like 2 dozen Japanese games I would put in front of it and another dozen WRPGs. Another dozen indie/puzzle/multiplayer games too.

Higher 50s or 60s sure but you gotta be quite delusional to think its #1.

I can't say I'm too shocked that some folks are apparently having higher CPU usage and temps with Iceborne, than even the basegame. MHW was already one of the most CPU-intensive games in recent memory, and Iceborne just added more shit that the game needs to account for. Glad that I upgraded my CPU over the summer!

Now I haven't played TLOU myself, but from what I've heard about it and it's story (since everyone can't stop talking about it) I have a hard time seeing what is so extremely special about both the game and its story.

It just sounds so.... Bland.
Zombies... "But man is the real monster!" Etc.

Sounds like everything else.

Why do people get so upset over these lists?
I've been gaming for 30 years and TLOU is my favorite game. Big fucking deal.
A lot of games deserve it but in the end it has to be just one and it's highly likely it wont be the same you would've picked.

I guess that´s one way to pass judgment on something.

So I'm going to start RE7 today. It's insane that I haven't played it yet since RE is one of my favorite franchises. I just wasn't sold on it when it released so I ended up giving priority to other things. Meanwhile my brother bought it during a sale so I'm gonna give that family sharing some use, I've heard nothing but good things about it. I actually feel pretty hyped now that I've finally decided to play it.

I didn't like The Last of Us, not to the point of not playing it, because it's still a very competent game, but I don't remember much of it and I didn't really care of any of the characters. My main problem with it, and the reason why I'll never agree with people saying how groundbreaking it actually is, is how deeply derivative it is on the narrative side. It's really a game that doesn't want to be a game, it wants so hard to be taken seriously (successfully, apparently) and, to achieve that, it emulates something we have already seen infinite times on TV or at the movies. Sure, it was never done to that extent in games, but I really fail to understand how a game that sticks so much to another medium canon can be so widely considered as original, especially one with so limited interactivity as The Last of Us. I'll still play the sequel though, when I can find it for cheap, because, as I said, it's still a competent game.

hmmm.. Last of Us ....pretty much agree with NeuralProxy played thoough it few years ago and was pretty damn fine game , i just dont really understand why its held its such insanely high regard , but ultimately not really all that groundbreaking and mindblowing.
I guess part of it might be that i am generally quite annoyed when the games try to be as cinematic as possible and that cinematicis was quite stromg with this one

I think it's a question of budget.

Double Dragon IV was clearly a game done on the cheap, and quickly, by a small team.

While Double Dragon Advance was more of a "proper" release, by doing a game with higher budget on a popular console of the time (the GBA).

Don't get me wrong, DD IV was one of those games that I played once, and it was enough.
But, I had a decent time while it lasted, and I guess I take any sidecrolling beat'em ups that come along, since the genre has seen better days. :)

Speaking of "8 bit" beat'em ups, there's one in the upcoming UFO 50:

There's some footage of it at 00:34 in the trailer:

I really wanna play The Last of Us... and God of War... and Horizon... and FFVII Remake. But it feels like a bit of a waste buying a PS4 now. Makes more sense to wait for PS5.

Well if the PS5 really is fully backwards compat you’re probably better off waiting

Allow me to also recommend Bloodborne and Spiderman. Fantastic games. But yeah, BC should be a thing (let's hope it works well) so you might as well wait if the price isn't an issue. No idea how much the PS5 will cost but PS4 can be found for under 200.

I loved The Last of Us. It didn't do much knew regarding gameplay and story, but it did was it did extremely solid and competent.

Which is not a suprising thing considering I love story driven SP games. So TLOU was just my jam.

So when Sony sops doing story driven SP games, Im out. It's the only reason Im buying a PS5. When I will buy it, I don't know, but I will at some point.

I won't buy the Xbox Series X though as all games will be coming to Steam and PC game pass.

Don't worry they'll continue doing it. AAA single player story driven cinematic walking exposition game is a safe formula for Sony.

The Last of Us is a weird game for me. While I really liked the charactes and I thought that the story was presented really well, the gameplay was... meh (I'll grant it that it's slightly better than Uncharted 1 and 2 at least).
It didn't help that the PS controller is not something I'm used to and I pretty much hate using it.

I would have loved it as a Telltale-style game.

Anyway, back to thinking about my GOTY and GOTD list :thinking-face:

I might get a bit exasperated by the constant fawning over the game and Naughty Dog and i've never played it but i can see how it is a quality SP game and don't really begrudge it it's success. The same with the Marvel films, they're popcorn bombast and throwaway movies to me but i know many people are crazy invested in them.

Oof, this combo of bosses in SMT - Apocalypse was, as usual, annoying and long. But I must persevere, I will finish this game !
Look at Gamefaqs
I'm lvl 75, the enemy list goes to 100. There are two full chapters left. And a teleporter dungeon.

Virtual gun to the head :cryblob:

SMTIV was not great but did the job, another serving was a mistake.

PS Now seems like a sensible option. I tested it out once, was actually quite nice. Finished Gravity Rush with it

TLoU was a good SP game for me but funnily enough I spent most of my time with it on MP. That faction shit was so damn fun, even though half of the maps had some serious FPS issues. It ain't my game of the decade, though.

SMT is my favorite franchise and Apocalypse was one of the biggest disappointments I ever had with a videogame. And I loved IV.
Get ready for that final dungeon, don't feel bad if you end up not bothering with finishing it.
I'm still tempted to go back to a save file I have before the major decision, I'm hoping that the chaos route will allow me to kill every fucking character in the game which would definitely improve my opinion of it by a huge margin.

Google final dungeon

Ah ah, nopeeeeee !
I went solo for the entire game but I will follow a guide for that shit. I like my sanity more than my ego.

Weird, I'm unable to buy sacks of gems on the marketplace.
I try to place an order for the lowest offered price (so, an instant purchase), and it keeps "loading and loading", and it never concludes my purchase.

It's not the first time this has happened to me.

I don't care about the boring-ass gameplay of those story-driven games. So I will watch let's plays of TLOU, Uncharted, etc. and can enjoy a good story at my pace. And the best thing ever? I can even skip the shoot-outs of generic baddie #26745.

Yep, I really liked the early uncharted games too, but found TLOU fairly bland; the hype mystifies me
