Last 1/3 of the game is really bad, just waves after waves of enemies. By that point I've had my fill of the game but I needed to beat it just to properly judge it and IMO it's a game with a strong start, but afterwards is slowly becomes undone. The areas you explored all came off as small areas that are stitched together as if each group of the team working on the game was assigned a specific area to design then the end product of the game stitched them together.
that's probably exactly what happened

I still loved it (Infinite). I wonder if I had less expectation on it and that's why I didn't really get hit by many of its issues as much as others do (although I had almost Witcher 3 level expectations). At any rate, it's still one of my favorite games ever made.

Finished my first Gamepass game with Timespinner. Took about 5;30 hrs to beat. Not bad, not great. Worth checking out.

Oooh thanks. I will say this much: Wtaching Crowbcat's 5 min. 'The Bioshock Infinite that could've been' or whatever it is titled really made me wish we had gotten that vision of the game.
The original reveal trailer is one I actually remember watching from that E3, and still watching it now, it is still a fantastic trailer.

Well for better or worse that's how we've been "trained".
There's basically a sale going on every day if you consider all the 3rd party stores. Why buy something full price?

Well 999 only took me ~11 hours, so VLR was almost double length.
11 hours?!?

I didn't like Bioshock Infinite at all. The level design and story made no sense, and the combat was too "arena" focused.

I also remember when dying, you respawned but you lost a huge part of your "ammo". At highest difficulty, this made certain battles almost impossible because you had barely anything to kill the bad guys. That's just terrible game design imo.

"It's just another shooter with some tacked-on themes that aren't well explored or well thought out" is the best description of the game. Shooting in a game can be good but when the overall structure and design decisions aren't up to snuff, what else is there for this game? As neat as some of its other combat mechanics are, Bioshock Inf. does indeed fall short, esp. as one progresses through the game.

I know I played it on Easy, but I enjoyed the shooting even if all I used were the shotgun and assault rifle weapons, but I maintain the quote I wrote above.

Matt really did put together my own thoughts I had when I finished the game almost exactly. I was like 'oh so it wasnt me about not getting or liking some things lol' while watching the video.

With the flowchart yeah. I assume without it, it's longer (even though nothing else actually happens).
I played it with the flowchart too, and it was still much closer to 20 hours. You reading like crazy. I'm jealous.

The multiple realities thing is poorly handled I feel; back to back we see Booker and Elizabeth instantly jump to realities where Elizabeth's 'wish' is 'fulfilled'. If that's the case, why not just wish for a Paris where Comstock nor Columbia to find you in? It's like Elizabeth has Stockholm Syndrome or something, but that'd be something against her character I feel.

tHIS IS another intersting critique of Bioshock Ifinite's themes.

It's also not a great idea from a gameplay standpoint when the game is thematically, at least on some level, about trying to make amends for past violence.... with endless violence and no other meaningful way to interact with the world - the always controversial ludo-narrative dissonance argument.

Speaking of visual novels, I started Deadalus: Awakening of Golden Jazz, being a prequel story to the Jake Hunter series.
So far it is good and its chill vibe is a good fallback from my FF14 playthru which I will start tomorrow.

Speaking of Bioshock Infinite, I didn't like it either... let's forget about the story and the characters (possibly the biggest narrative failure I have ever seen in anything ever - talk about "both sides"), I didn't find the movement to be very good. Bioshock is slow and heavy by nature, and I really doubt that adding automated rail segments helped a lot... sure you can flee to regenerate... but there's a pretty big dissonance here.
Also Infinite is way more "loot" based than the others, and I like nothing better in my FPS than RNG gear with % to proc some random crap and fiddling around with even more useless perks.

And it's made of little arenas with waves of ennemies, which also made me drop the so called "Doom 2016".

Why does everything needs to become Painkiller with extra time wasted in menus to fuck around with your load out?
Doom was especially horrendous with its weapon perks to unlock and worse, the runes and the big push for QTE kills.
Man I HATED the game and everything it stands for - the savage murder of the franchise into another arena shooter QTE fest with increasingly important RPG elements.

At least we have Dusk, I guess.

I did like BI (and don't feel that the arena like level design was too on the nose) but am 100% on your side of the argument with Doom 16. F that shit. Mediocre Painkiller on Mars. I will never get how that massacre of a beloved franchise got so hyped up everywhere. I hope Eternal will be better.

I tried my best but in the end I couldn't handle DOOM 16' boredom. The gunplay is solid but the upgrade system and Ievels completely bury it in dumbness. Fuck, I even tried hyping myself at some point but there's better things to play. Thank God I only paid $10 for that thing.

Bought a new PC but I refuse to soil the SSD installing Aliens Colonial Marines on it so I'll try to finish it on the Core 2 Duo.
How long did you use that old PC? That's a 13 to 11 year old CPU model, after all.

Hmm according to Isthereanydeal, it was only 33% sale. Makes me wonder if the fact that the game is on sale itself - rather than the amout of sale - makes the biggest difference.
I imagine it being on the homepage + emails helps quite a bit.

Almost 11 years. The greatest PC I've ever built, still working and using it to type this right now.

Old PC:
Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 Ghz, had to overclock it to 4.0 to play Wolfenstein The New Order (not really worth it)
Gigabyte EP45-UD3L, a magnificent MB
4 GB RAM DDR2 800 Mhz, 2x2 Mushkin High Performance, probably the reason I can still use this PC.
Sapphire ATI HD Radeon 4850 (yes, its that old), replaced 2 years ago with a Sapphire AMD RX 560 Pulse (a real 560, not the cut down crap they started selling later)
Topower 600W (the shiniest PSU I've ever had in my hands, blew up 2 years ago without damaging anything), replaced with a Seasonic S12 600W
Several hard disks, including Western Digital, Samsung, Toshiba, Seagate (crap), and now a Crucial SATA SSD 120gb for the OS. The Samsung and WD disks are IDE PATA.
LG Bluray Burner, also reads those 4k discs but never bought one.
Thermaltake V8 case with extra fans.

New PC:
Ryzen 2600
Gigabyte Aorus M B450
16 GB RAM DDR4 3200 Mhz Ballistic 2x8
I'm going to use the RX 560 from the other PC for now
bequiet! U9 600W
Crucial P1 SSD M.2 NVME PCI ExpressX4
Another LG Bluray Burner that I was going to scrap and miraculously revived
Deepcool Tesseract case
Thinking about buying a 2/4 TB HD soon.

A decent midrange PC, it should be good enough for work and gaming.

Doom 2016 was good but I personally preferred Wolfenstein: TNO a lot more. It's actually funny how history repeats itself in regards to wolfenstein and doom, with the latter taking away all the glory from what the former built.

I still loved Bioshock Infinite, especially the dlc, but if you go back to the reveal trailer it's obvious that their vision was too ambitious and they had to take a lot of shortcuts. It's a shame, if they had pulled it of it could've been one of the best games ever. I still think it's really good overall, it had some fantastic moments like the opening and everything involving Elizabeth and Songbird.

Sure, sounds like a plan.

I let the father sacrifice himself, seemed more in character for him and I was more interested in how the daughter deals with that
Played a couple of hours. The story recap is very superficial but it wasn't hard to get back into it. I forgot how much I enjoyed managing the caravan, already had a couple of pretty extreme situations where every decision counts. It really sucks when you make a bad call and lose a ton of people. I think I'm doing well overall though.

This is from an actual Swedish newspaper, published sometime in 1999.
Translation:
"Andreas Hedlund has gone through all the possible software problems. Now he has determined that the hardware, the Mother-modem, the very heart of the hard-drive, is not working."

Whoever wrote that definitely loved commas. The sentence is weirdly structured even in Swedish.
Lol, no wonder it turned into a meme.

Greetings,

We are Red Candle Games from Taiwan. To all of our players, industry and media friends, we would like to provide an update on ‘Devotion’.

(1) For the past four months, the art asset incident related to ‘Devotion’ has caused immeasurable harm to Red Candle Games and our partner. We would like to offer our most sincere apology to all impacted teams and personnel. Red Candle and its partner are assuming all responsibilities for the losses; we will not stop in our endeavor to prevent the damage from worsening.

(2) This incident has significantly and adversely impacted all parties. Our partner has been making every effort to assist Red Candle. While mediation is still in progress, Red Candle’s co-founders have reached a unanimous decision to not re-release ‘Devotion’ in the near term, including but not limited to obtaining profit from sales, revision, IP authorization, etc. to prevent unnecessary misconception.

(3) As we reflect on the situation, we notice many players, industry friends, and the media are starting to understand that the incident was indeed a malfunction of project management, not a deliberate act. If, in the future, the public would be willing to view this game rationally and allow us the opportunity to rebuild trust with our players, Red Candle would reconsider re-releasing ‘Devotion’.

As such, we want to apologize to the players for the wait. We are truly sorry, but please understand our decision.

Red Candle is grateful that our partner entrusted us without reservation during the game’s development in the past two years. Regrettably, we failed to meet their expectations and caused them to suffer undue hardship. As the game’s sole developer, Red Candle is inexcusable for this incident. We hope that our partner and related parties may be excused from further criticism.

Since Red Candle Games establishment in 2015, we have dedicated ourselves to craft the best gaming experience for our audience worldwide. In ‘Devotion’, its core message is about “the tragedy of a loving family twisted by the frantic belief of a religious cult.”

We made a critical and unprofessional error during the game’s production. It saddens us that the focus of the game has shifted drastically since the erroneous art asset was found. A revision patch was implemented immediately as we have absolutely no intent to stage a publicity stunt.

However, in the aftermath of the incident, some still possess different speculations about ‘Devotion’. As regretful as the incident was, we have to bear its full consequence. We hope for a second chance in the near future. A chance to prove that, both Red Candle and its partner simply wanted to create a great game and no one wished for such incident to occur.

Rest assured, Red Candle Games will continue its passion to creativity as a game company.

Thank you for your invaluable support.

Sincerely,
Red Candle Games

I tried to play Phantasy Star 2 just to make myself more knowledgeable about the old-school JRPGs, and I gave up after half an hour, Seems like games from 80s in general aren't my cup of tea, because I had the same issue with Starflight, I simply have no idea how to play them.
