The new, cleaner sprites look OK but the originals are much more charming. Not sure will these be fixable through mods.
This looks already 1000 times better than 2014 ports, still not as good as the originals but I think this time it won't have that much impact visually and will be more pleasant to play.:cat-heart-blob:
 
Mmh, what the flying fuck is the relation between fps and 2D ? Is my whole life a lie and was SNES 24fps ?

Sold my Switch 2019 in 10 minutes 220 euros, not bad.
Feels a little sad though, not that I will miss it as I can't pay the Nintendo Tax, and a new version is coming anyways, but it would be nice to buy hardware, FOR A CHANGE :anguished-face:

some amazing details:

  • 6 different lands/kingdoms with their own dungeon structures.
  • All 6 lands controlled by different demigods you have to fight and some of the characters/bosses were written by GRRM.
  • Exploration will be needed to collect skills seen in the trailer
  • A lot of player roam freedom to do take paths from the start
  • Central hub will connect all 6 lands but not accessible at start

But yea all sounds incredible:wd_praise:
It must be great for people who enjoy Souls games since it means more content, but it's literally bigger map and more bosses. Hardly anything revolutionary. I always find it strange that Japanese developers get no (or a lot less) flak for releasing pretty much the same game over and over compared to the Western developers.

Saves are meant to be deleted once you are done with the game. When one goes back to a previously finished game, I believe it is better to start over anyway. That is the one thing permadeath and grind-less roguelike taught me. :evilblob:

Did you miss the trailer? It has a defining new feature, horse and mounted combat. That alone may give the genre a very interesting twists in term of gameplay.

I see the dislike ratio is high because it is not on consoles. Wish people would do this for other exclusives as well like oh I don't know FF16,Kena,Stalker 2 but I suppose no one gives a shit when it helps their system.

I don't know, Oblivion had horse and mounted combat too as a new feature and it didn't really change anything.

I'm a firm believer that you can do good things for the wrong reasons. So I'll allow it :coffee-blob:

Nah, "The Last Night" i think it was called and i saw on twitter he's still about and no this isn't his game in a new name.

I'm wary about it, not entirely because it's not on consoles, but sorta because it's not on consoles.
I'm gonna play it on my phone or PC anyway, but not being on console gives me the impression of "These are super-cheap mobile remakes that're going to be ported to PC with the bare-minimum effort". If they were putting them on at least one console, I'd have a bit more confidence in their quality.

I imagine they've changed the movies and some of the art assets and depending on how their game engine is written they may need to redownload the whole archive or archives.

It's why this change invalidates saves that confuses me. This is either petty spite or they have changed something else. Hopefully someone analyses the changes to the save file format and releases a tool to convert them after the garbage 30 day "grace period". Frogwares always seem to make bewildering decisions to me.

Interesting to note : Psychonauts 2 on Steam does not seem to requrie an Xbox account unlike most XGS published games on the platform.
Forza Horizon 5 for example clearly mentions a mandatory Xbox Live account to play.

Battletoads also doesn't have it required on the Steam page and it is optional to do in-game.

Its a new From Software experience. There is nothing like it. There aren't any Western or Japanese developers today that can do what they do. They are 6 for 6 since Demon Souls and haven't stumbled yet. Most devs collapse and fade away when trying to release same things over n over again. There are some devs that can nail parts of what they do like Team Ninja but no one has been able to create a complete package like they do within that genre. And when it comes to Dark Fantasy they are in a league of their own imo.

Also its not about revolutionizing anything but more about hard coded game design and combat/gameplay loops. Everything they make is addicting and fun to play/replay etc. So them doing a larger free roam world this time around has a ton of potential. They also will have stealth mechanics from Sekiro and mounts.

I get the feeling Square Enix just does not like the old sprites, or at least thinks that people won't like them.
I'm thinking back to that time someone in charge of FFXV, during some showcase or somesuch related to the PC version, was told people didn't like the higher-res sprites in the remakes. So this remake uses lower-res sprites, but they're still in the same style as the ones used in Dimensions, 5, and 6 on mobile.

It's Square we can't expect logical decisions from them, at least it will be an upgrade from the current versions on Steam/Mobile.

Yup, at this point I'm convinced the art director and the players are just not on the same wavelength.
 
Modders already stepped in and dramatically improved the current version of FF6 with the World Reborn mod, these new ports should be much easier to touch up I'd think.
 
I've watched the Final Fantasy Chaos trailer today cause all the memes made me curious.
