I do not trust Embracer at all. Often seems like a scam. Like how can be they be buying so damn much all the time.
They're a swedish investment group with a huge amount of money who iirc basically buy up companies with already established IPS and re-release stuff into HD/remakes get pretty much all their money back super quick because people buy it on nostalgia
That's basically been what they've been doing

That’s pretty reductive, It’s not just nostalgia otherwise that’d be a pretty shit business plan since the remaster will end, they just release multiple medium-sized games which individually are profitable vs releasing a few budget-ballooned-AAA games with massive sales, among those are remasters but it seems more a way to revitalize the franchises before going forward.
it also let them see which IP is worth investing in after revitalizing it.

I have one question, did Embracer got Seeping Dogs?
No mention of it leaving SE or staying.

Square Enix did say they’re only keeping three Western IP (LiS, Just Cause and one of their recent releases that is instantly forgettable), so I assume it’s in a new home with Embracer.

I reviewed Trigon: Space Story, an FTL-like that seems to have flown completely under the radar. My review is literally the only review on Metacritic for the game. It's a shame because the game is actually very good, it's a carbon copy of FTL in most respects but that doesn't make it any less fun. If you want more FTL I recommend it.
Sorry for the late reply. I think you are right that Trigon flew completely under the radar for most people, incl.uding videogames news. I only knew about that game because the amazing guy of Gamingonlinux made a news post about it describing it just the way you did.

In case you wanted to check the post, here it is.

although, they are free of the incompetent Square....
Who will be the next THQ?
I remember not getting the Humble Bundle which gave you pretty much all Steam games that THQ had published when they were having their (then unknown) firesale before going bust.

So I see Embracer buying things and the perfectly reasonable negativity conversatan every time their name crops up.
But is it just rapid growth and buying peoples favorite studios negativity or are they Satan incorparate? Aside from them buying things I have no idea who they are.

300million for those ips and dev teams is a hell of a deal for Embracer.

But it also shows that those games like MankindDivided, SotTR, Avengers and Guardians didn't do well.

I doubt Shadow sold better than Rise so that franchise is trending down. The financials for all those teams and their output must have been trending down for a while now. Also if Square really wants to make some crazy blockchain games in the future the Deus Ex ip would have been perfect for it lol. Just sayin.

Looks like they really dumped the ip and didn't give a shit about the legacy. Which is crazy as its rare that happens. But this also gives hope for maybe Konami to sell their shit one day so we can see that legacy revived.

I'm not a huge Embracer fan, but even so I can't really see this as anything other than positive news for those franchises.
The only question remains is what kind of budget will Embracer let those teams play around with. If Microsoft or Sony bought them they would basically have unlimited budget with little risk because of Gamepass etc. Sony always goes big too.

But now I wonder if they scale those franchises down and maybe we get more limited/linear games. May be for the best tbh.

I could be wrong but aren't Japanese devs vastly underpaid compared to Western devs? That is one way how Square managed to have more profitability from Japanese studios.

I'm not fully aware of everything Embracer owns, but have they released anything that was actually good? Not just "ok" but genuinely good?
Most of their big acquisitions are so recent that the stuff you're seeing was already far in development when the studio/publisher was acquired, but they've definitely got a bunch of good stuff.
Valheim is probably their biggest success story and it's not even out on consoles or close to being complete yet. There's also Deep Rock Galactic, Satisfactory, Metro Exodus, Wreckfest, Kingdom Come, etc. Coffee Stain in general was one of their best acquisitions.

300 million? That's quite a bargain.
And yeah, considering how mismanaged all their western studios have been, this all sounds good to me.

Though I wonder, what happens to Hitman IP. Since Square exclusively licensed it to IOI, I guess Embracer now owns it. They probably need to keep whatever deal they had with IOI in place, but I wonder if IOI might actually try and buy it completely from Embracer once this deals goes through.

Wild wild shit.

Hopefully this sale means we can get decent remasters sets of the OG Tomb Raider games and the TR Legends trilogy.
Please god yes.
Also I wouldn't mind if they did the same for Legacy of Kain stuff.

SE sells almost their entire Western output? Damn

They decide to only keep Outriders, LiS, Just Cause? Damn…

Me thinking about the sustainability in general of Embracer and the budget potential for games under them. But at same time we may get new Deus Ex, Thief, LoK? DAMN

SE sold it all for just $300m? DAMN!!

SE are using the money to fund NFT BS??
