The Last Ninja Collection + Bonus Games

The Last Ninja Collection brings together seven iconic titles for the first time, celebrating the golden era of retro gaming and the preservation of pioneering games from the '80s & '90s. The Last Ninja series is one of the most beloved and successful franchises, known for its innovative gameplay, memorable graphics, atmospheric music and blockbusting reviews.

This collection includes The Last Ninja, Last Ninja 2, Last Ninja 3 and Ninja Remix, alongside critically acclaimed titles like International Karate, IK+ and Bangkok Knights. These games were milestones in the gaming industry, pushing the boundaries of technology and making them available to play on Windows PC.

The original developers of these games were pioneers, experimenting with new technologies and game-play mechanics that would lay the groundworks for today's video game industry. The Last Ninja series sold over 23 million copies across the trilogy, cementing its place as one of the most influential and best-selling titles of the 8-bit computer gaming era.

Last Ninja 2 follows Armakuni's quest for vengeance in modern-day New York against the evil Shogun Kunitoki, featuring atmospheric, isometric environments. Last Ninja 3 received a perfect 100% review score, being the first computer game to achieve this.

International Karate (rebranded as World Championship Karate in the USA) was the first European game to top the USA C64 billboard charts and the first European company (System 3) to achieve this. IK+ is a multi-award-winning retro classic, introducing improved graphics and gameplay with AI. Bangkok Knights was the first fighting game to feature large, distinct characters, inspiring the very first Street Fighter game.

The importance of video game preservation is highlighted – ensuring classic games remain playable and providing valuable resources for researchers and developers. System 3 is proud to have contributed some of the most iconic and influential games on the C64 and Amiga platforms, leaving an indelible mark on the action-adventure genre.

Bloober Team wasn't cooking with this one at all.
That shit's so raw, it's about to get pregnant.

The combat and gameplay is massively repetitive, the exploration overall still too linear.

But my god the story.

Narratively you don't understand what's happening at all because the game puts no effort into the world building. What's THE COLLECTIVE? What's your mission? Why are you collecting souls through timetrravel? Who cares.

But thematically? The game wants to be really deep into the horrors of collectivization.

A zombie virus that melts all people into a collective consciousness in the former Soviet Union.
You killing the final boss, literally wielding a sickle, and then saying "NOW WE ARE FREE".

Like clearly, the whole game is meant to be a metaphor for the Soviet Union and the loss of individuality in such a system, but it's really not doing anything with it.

Compare that to Silent Hill F (The F stands for "Flawless Masterpiece of the Generation") and it's light and day in terms of depth, character writing, layered story telling and actually combining gameplay and story into a complete experience. Cronos at its height doesn't even reach the lowest moments of that.

Still better than the Callisto Protocol tho
Cronos had cats you could pet, so that alone makes it at worst an ok game. But I agree that the story is kinda meh since the world building is so non-existent. I don't care about the overly obvious symbolism, it's a Polish developer, Russia fucked them so hard over the last century, they can have a game or two about how communism is bad

The interview starts off with a real bang: When asked what he thinks of "the problem of predators on Roblox," Baszucki replies, "We think of it not necessarily just as a problem, but an opportunity as well. How do we allow young people to build, communicate and hang out together? How do we build the future of communication at the same time?"

As the interview ground to a conclusion, Baszucki dropped one more incredibly ill-conceived statement. After the subject of Polymarket came up, when asked if he'd ever put a "prediction market" in Roblox—essentially a platform that allows gambling on future events like sports scores, the presidential election in Chile, or how many tweets Elon Musk will post on a particular day—Baszucki actually says yes. When the interviewer clarifies that he thinks it's "a horrible idea," Baszucki continues, "I actually think it’s a brilliant idea if it can be done in an educational way that’s legal. And so, imagine no free Robux, no free prizes, just a game called the Dress to Impress Predictor, where it’s not like trying to get kids’ money or anything like that. I would be a big fan of it."

What's up with metaverse CEOs being completely batshit insane?

They already are eating their own customers. But someone falling off from Genshin or Star Rail or Zenless or whatever to one of their other games is preferable to them jumping ship to the competition. And that happens eventually for all live-service games. That is also why all of their games have different genres (though sharing anime aesthetics and some progression systems).
Genshin is the open-world action RPG that now also has a Roblox mode, Star Rail is turn-based, Zenless zeroes in on action, Nexus Anima will be auto-chess Pokemon and Petit Planet is Animal Crossing.
Varsapurna has a completely different atmosphere again already, though it's hard to say what the gameplay is really gonna be like in the end. Right not that part doesn't look super promising.

Though I'll have to disagree on Genshin being surpassed by just about every other Open-World gacha since :P (not that there are many, are there even any "big" ones out aside from Tower of Fantasy and Wuthering Waves?) I'm obviously biased since I'm still playing the game after all, but I feel like Nod-Krai has basically universally positive reception after the mixed bag that Natlan was in some aspects.
I've tried to get into ZZZ twice. I like the aesthetic and the combat feels nice, but it just hasn't clicked with me. I also tried to go back to Genshin after playing it in 2020 and was so overwhelmed I bailed. I've got WWM for my live service open world fix for now.

I also wish Mihoyo would put their games on Steam. I know they won't because of "the cut" ( :timinator: ), but it would be nice.

WWM's combat bored the tits off me
It's Temu Sekiro, but it scratches the itch. Some of the bosses are surprisingly challenging. The whole game has a big layer of jank, but I'm still having a good time.

I do my budget on the PC and I can't imagine using the upper numerical keys being anywhere fun, more like sanity breaking.
Now it is true that I could buy a dedicated numpad, but at this point why not buy a 100% keyboard ?

Anyway, I had an epiphany. the dirt cheap not even sure if membrane or mecha Steel Series Apex 3 is badly ranked on rtings because of latency (more than 10ms ?) and this is bad. I'm not a competitive player but a keyboard with latency doesn't scream buy me.
So I googled 'measure keyboard latency' and did so on Keyboard Latency Test (Scan Rate, Input Lag, Response) [New]

MY CURRENT KEYBOARD HAS 100-140 MS LATENCY :astonished-face:
I'm tempted to say LOL, Maybe even LUL. Might I add a LEL ?
My Keychron K10 Pro gets shortest key press 28 ms via sunshine/moonlight (apple tv client) and 20 ms via usb

Picked up BF6 and Ninja Gaiden 4 on Steam (both on sale).

Also started on Ball x Pit and Hades 2 on Steam. Also Silksong installed on Steam, but not sure when to get to that.

2ms 500hz on my ajazz ak820 pro. Any recent hot swappable mechanical keyboard should be getting these kind of result anyway.

16ms and 62.5hz my 2017 Apple Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad (Model A1843), same result on the built-in keyboard of my Macbook Air M4
the slightly older 2007 Apple Aluminium Keyboard (Model A1243) gets 20ms and 50 Hz

Microsoft has issued an important warning about its upcoming agentic AI capabilities that are coming soon to Windows 11. In a new support document, the company warns that users should "only enable this feature if you understand the security implications," and has confirmed that because of the potential dangers, it'll be off by default.

Sweet, I'll just never turn it on then.

The fastest I can get it, is 8ms and 125 Hz, on a Keychron Q1 with linear switches.

Your keyboard is so fast, it's faster than the speed of light and effectively time-travelling, hence allowing an effective 0ms latency. Basically, the information is hitting the CPU before your even finished pressing the button.

The biggest problem with these keyboards is that it's a full size keyboard.
No, the biggest problem is that they are far too small for ergonomic typing :p

I got 6ms / 166 Hz on mine. But I'm not sure I fully trust the methodology of this test, especially at the low end of the range.

Far from me to tell anyone what to do with their money but I'll never understand how or why so many of you seemingly spend so much in accessories like keyboards, mice or controllers...
For me those are the things you spend less on and just stick with till they no longer work, which is usually over 10 years from my experience.

Trying to chase the "best experience" which is a FOMO thing.

Though I do think there's merit to spending money on quality accessories. They usually are better. But there's no perfect setup for anyone and you just need to find the right accessories for you. That could be a ÂŁ10 membrane Dell keyboard or a ÂŁ250 mechanical.

Sigh, looking back at it, I think this is another year of me not playing a single new game that released this year. Or at least any that have stuck in my memory.

Instead it has been The Last Descendant (which led to me playing the far better), Warframe, Final Fantasy XIV, more mods on Terraria (currently playing through Thorium mod).

I do have Bladechimera and Neccesse installed but just not had the time to invest in either of them.

I think the biggest issue is that I am no longer in a position to justify (or want to) play the big AAA games. I would like to give Stellar Blade a go, but so far that hasn't gone below a 20% discount, both Silent Hill 2 or Silent Hill F haven't gone as low as I want. Although FF7 Rebirth is 50% off so I may grab that in the Christmas sale.

But, after so many hours playing the Calamity Mod (so so so many hours) I think I may have the patience to try and work my way through the Souls games. Maybe, but there will be no Sekiro. That one looks to be just too fast for my aging nerves.

However, it also makes me realise why I love PC gaming and have never wanted a console again after my PS4 started gathering dust. I have so many options that just aren't there on Modern Consoles. The more they have gotten closer to being a closed off PC the less I actually want one.

TLDR; ramble. ramble, ramble, shout at clouds, ramble, ramble, love PC. The end.

I guess the only way to explain this is that everyone has their own shopping mental outlet. I can't understand how some people buy a new phone every year. People outside the gaming scene probably also don't understand how we build huge library with hundreds of unplayed games. If every person spent rationally, many industries would collapse.

You're definitely not the only one. I only played one to two new game every year - this year they are Expedition 33 and Girls' Frontline 2.

But I never stop playing games. It's just that... 90% of big AAA games don't interest me anymore. I also can't justify paying $70 for a new game when I can buy multiple games on sale with the same cost, or simply install a game from the library and hit play. Other than those two mentioned, this year I played banger after banger. All old games, nothing new. But they are all awesome. What else can I ask for?

Uh, me to if I cheat and push several buttons in a row I get better scores (I've got no idea what I'm talking about).

I actually feel like I played a ton of newly released games this year, at least by my standards. Let me check.
  • Ender Magnolia, which was great and would easily make my top Metroidvania pick in most other years.
  • FF VII Rebirth, which was better than I expected in many ways but did drag on too much later.
  • FlyKnight, which was a fun distraction in coop but a bit overrated. At least it doesn't overstay its welcome like several other games on the list.
  • AI Limit, which isn't a bad Soulslike but confirms to me that I only really have staying power in that genre in co-op.
  • The Hundred Line, which was fun but could have had 50 lines and not much of value would have been lost.
  • Elden Ring Nightreign, which Fromsoftware made specifically for me and my friends and which I'll probably put 100 hours more into in December.
  • POPUCOM, which is a rare case of playing a local co-op game the year it was released -- I play a ton of those, but usually late.
  • Hollow Knight: Silksong, which is also the best game I've played this year.
  • SIlent Hill f, which I really should get back to but which is probably too long.

Yeah, that's a lot more new games than the average year, especially considering that a lot of these are rather long.

MMmh, that I kinda feel totally opposite. Now there is admittedly a very real point when you are wasting your money, no argument, but I learned several years ago that it is worth spending a little bit on the things you will use constantly.
Total Commander is my best purchase ever.
It would work for Logitech products if Logitech products weren't garbo at every level.

Parsnip Le Pertti beware, Keychron is apparently famous for having keyboards that double type in a matter of months. They must have copied Logitech mice :anguished-face:

I agree with that. Particular mice and keyboards. before I replaced my keyboard rather recently I was using a "Microsoft Natural Multimedia Keyboard", which I had continuously in use since ~2003, so over 20 years.

If you hope that newer stuff is at least half as durable (which might be a vain hope), spending 120€ on a new keyboard still only amounts to 12€ per year.

It would work for Logitech products if Logitech products weren't garbo at every level.
It's sad that this is what it has come to. I used my previous Logitech mouse for over a decade.

That said, some of their somewhat recen't stuff isn't bad. I've been using a Logitech Spotlight presentation remote that I got in 2019 continuously since then.
That one is really fun: apparently someone at Logitech noticed they were still making a good product, which goes against their company ethos, so they discontinued it. Then they figured out that people really liked it and eventually re-introduced it at literally twice the price.

I'm not sure it works well under linux:

I ran my first test on Linux, worked fine there...might be your browser or an extension?

Speaking of soulslike Asian games, how's everyone thoughts on Wuchang Fallen Feathers?
Recently got 1.7 update

I played it for about 7 hours, liked most of it, but dropped it at some point (that is, just didnt get back to it, like so many games). It's a good soulslike though; but I think the checkpoints/bonfires were waay too far apart. There was some bullshit, but I've seen worse ;) Anyway, I think its one of those games that I just dont need more of, where a couple hours is enough and I dont need to finish it.

Games that released this year, the only one I've played to completion is Monster Hunter Wilds, and I've been keeping up with its updates.
I also played one DLC that released this year, the part 1 of the Daima DLC for Dragon Ball Z Kakarot, plus I intend to play the newest DLC for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 in a few days.

Other than that, I have a couple other games in progress that released this year, the Trails in the Sky remake and Sonic Racing Crossworlds.
After finishing the trails remake, I want to play Digimon Story Time Stranger, but I don't think I'll finish trails this year, I've been playing it only on weekends and I'm only at the start of chapter 2.
