The 1998 PlayStation® classic is back: SaGa Frontier is being remastered for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Steam, iOS, and Android – launching in Summer 2021!

The team of eight have returned – now with Fuse added as a playable character!

Choose your favorite character and embark on your own unique journey.

Each of the eight characters have different goals and endings. Your choices will affect how events unfold using the Free-Form Scenario System. This in-depth system will allow you to manipulate and expand a story all your own.

Challenge yourself in nail-biting battles by using “glimmer” as well as learning new skills such as the ability to fire consecutive special attacks from multiple team members

With beautiful graphics, as well as the addition of new events and features, SaGa Frontier Remastered is an experience not to be missed!

*Note that this game features English and Japanese text ONLY.

Features:
  • Eighth Playable Character Fuse Added – A story for new protagonist Fuse has been added. This can be unlocked by clearing the stories of the other seven protagonists. The story is handled by SaGaseries general director Akitoshi Kawazu and game writer / novelist Benny Matsuyama, with new music by composer Kenji Ito.
    • Fuse is a member of IRPO, the Regions’ organization for the maintenance of public order. His real name is Lostar, but he was given the nickname “Crazy Fuse” because of the way he goes out of control when he loses his temper. Although known for his problematic behavior, he has a strong sense of duty as a patrolman and his natural perception and decisiveness have given him a high rate of criminal arrests. Even today, he is investigating incidents throughout the Regions.
  • Missing Events Implemented – There were some events in Asellus’ story that were not implemented in the original release. By implementing those events, you can get enjoy Asellus’ story to the fullest extent.
  • Remastered with Beautiful Graphics and Useful Features – The game’s image remains unchanged, but the graphics quality has been enhanced. Characters, backgrounds, and monsters have all been made in high-resolution, and menus have been revamped to be more user-friendly. Quality-of-life features like 2x speed have also been added.

Pessimist me: Where's the question mark at the end of Asellus' sentence? Squeenix's localisation at its best /s
Optimist me: Hopefully that screenshot is not from Release Candidate build, and they will do another editing pass.

I'm interested, but this screen is all kind of revolting, on every level.
With all the resources Squeenix had, would it kill them to hire a UI engineer to specifically work on the PC interface? This mobile UI shite ruins the experience for me.

Preordered it on GMG with the store credit I got from my Bloodlines 2 refund. Maybe it will make me go back to Scarlet Grace and be more likely to pick up the 2 and 3 remasters

Fans of this game get mad when one says that this game has aged poorly.
Which aspect do you think has aged poorly? Narrative, or gameplay? Not many RPG these days attempts multiple narratives like SaGa does.

I hate the RNG-based combo system
That's one of the best parts of any SaGa games. You recruit companions, you spark their skills, and you find a synergy between those skills.

I wrote a whole review here:

If it’s possible to create a tl;dr, SaGa Frontier Remastered still plays like a video game from the 90’s rather than a video game that has been enhanced to meet the expectations of what a modern video game should be. It probably needed a remake rather than a remaster.
