Lots of info, vids and Serious Sam sale are up now!

[UWSL][UWSL]Description[/UWSL][/UWSL]
Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass reignites the classic series and takes you on an adventure full of bullets, guts, and one-liners.

[UWSL][UWSL]About the Game[/UWSL][/UWSL]
Developed by true shooter veterans in Croteam, Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass reignites the classic series by improving on the old-school formula. Enjoy the high-adrenaline action combat with an unbelievably destructive arsenal and experience Sam's iconic enemy-annihilating circle-strafing and backpedaling dance-routine on an even bigger scale.

[UWSL][UWSL]Features[/UWSL][/UWSL]
  • CLOSE QUARTERS AND MASSIVE BATTLEFIELDS - Serious Sam has always been about crazy action in both huge open spaces and more streamlined arenas. This time it's no different. However, alongside those smaller arenas, for the first time in series history Serious Sam 4 debuts individual massive 128 x 128 km levels.
  • LEGION SYSTEM - EPIC HORDES OF ENEMIES - Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass debuts brand new enemy hordes scaled to match its terrain size. Fight through thousands upon thousands of relentless foes, both those that defined the franchise like Kamikaze and Kleer and those ready to become iconic in the future.
  • WITH A TWIST OF THE WRIST - To help you cover more ground easily, Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass features a set of cool and fun vehicles. Get your driving skills ready and jump on a motorcycle, a combine harvester or even a bulletproof popemobile and drive your way through unfortunate enemy pedestrians.
  • CLASSIC SAM IS BACK - Despite the huge terrains and vast open spaces, Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass is NOT an open world game. Fans will once again get to enjoy that circle-strafing, backpedaling, linear action gameplay they have come to love but on brutally bigger scale.
  • WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM A FRIEND - Companions no longer appear only in cut-scenes, but are taking part in the action. Rodriguez, Jones, Hellfire and the rest of the crew are joining Sam in this epic journey through Planet Badass. However, Sam is still very much a one-man-army hero you met all those years ago.

I’m dying to see gameplay footage of the legion system. Even if the many thousands of enemies are quite a distance off, that’ll be a first in a video game.

Theyre more like arena shooters with waves and waves of enemies IMO

I've never bothered to play Serious Sam. Comes off as a Duke Nukem wannabe.

How are these games?
Serious Sam the character may be a tiny bit like Duke but the games classically solidified as something unique and excellent. The levels are more like classic Doom, or maybe Painkiller if Painkiller had good level design.

I wouldn't compare Sam with classic Doom (or most old-school shooters) when it comes to level design, tbh. While the actual gameplay mechanics are comparable, Sam's levels contain 50 enemies in an area where Doom's would contain 5 and are usually opened up to account for this. It's what separates the horde shooter from the actual old-school FPS.

its what annoys me about the new doom games, they are veyr veyr arena based (even eternal) where as old dooms and serious sam dont feel that most of time, in both sam and old doom u can fight monsters through vast areas of map etc and they follow you etc, in the new doom games your very much confined to when the battle starts thats it u cant escape that area etc

Yeah, this also makes the action more predictable, less interesting and dynamic, and allows for less strategy. I really don't care for it. Serious Sam and classic Doom don't do this at all.

The biggest thing I disagree with here is that classic Doom had a wide variety of enemies you could encounter at once, but it was usually in the 10's - just like Serious Sam. Serious Sam just has more occasions of even higher enemy counts over large areas. Those two things really define the series for me. Fast charging enemies, enemies you want to keep at a distance, ranged enemies, standard enemies -- all going at you at once. Managing them is key - and that's a very classic Doom thing to do as well.

That's also what makes me most excited about this one, as long as they keep the integrity of enemy variety. Fighting 10,000 enemies at a time, as long as they aren't just fodder or background noise, could be AMAZING. Especially if I have a lot of cannonballs to shoot at them!

Humanity is under siege as the full force of Mental’s hordes spread across the world, ravaging what remains of a broken and beaten civilization. The last remaining resistance to the invasion is the Earth Defense Force led by Sam “Serious” Stone and his heavily-armed squad of misfit commandos. Croteam returns with a high-powered prequel to the Serious Sam series that scales up chaos to unprecedented levels.

The classic Serious Sam formula is revamped by putting an unstoppable arsenal up against an unimaginable number of enemies that requires players to circle-strafe and backpedal-blast their way out of impossible situations.
