I fully expect every tier to be RTX. (Well, maybe except business-only or very low-end stuff like MX)

Regarding DLSS, I don't see them splitting the user base in terms of game-facing implementation, as you say that makes no sense. Maybe something like games calling the same functionality and getting a "better" version of it (i.e. either faster or higher quality) on Ampere.

Agreed - in Control (with all bells and whistles) I get ~40 FPS without DLSS, which isn't very nice to play IMHO in a aiming-heavy game with mouse/kb. With "Quality" DLSS I get ~70 FPS, and it plays very well.

The really interesting thing is that it doesn't even look categorically worse. Sure, a few specific IQ things are worse than native, but several others are also better than native.

I haven't seen DLSS with my own eyes yet but I assume the parts that are worse are effectively largely unnoticeable when actually playing and not looking for them?

From experience, correct. I'm not the most discerning player when it comes to graphics, but by and large I have been very satisfied with DLSS in motion.

There are some bugs in some implementations (like the black particles in DS) which are noticeable, but for the things I was talking about I think you have to be quite observant to notice them. (Things like moire patterns on specific high-frequency-detail surfaces)

I see, that's good to hear, that means if DLSS (and any AMD equivalent) hopefully catches on for most games there should be no qualms using it. I'm actually getting excited getting a 4k screen in the future now :p

Following the leaks I've been seeing a lot of "slots" mentions.
E.g. 2.9-slot + 3x 8-pin

I'm clear about the 3x 8-pin (even though... YIKES! not that my PSU is enough to power these cards, but the PCI-E cable has 2x 6+2 connectors, so I reckon I'd need to use two cables for this card?), but I can't quite understand what the 2.9 slot means.

Searching a bit, it kinda seems to refer to the thickness of the card.
Is it yet another number I need to start paying attention now? :disappointed-but-relieved-face:

Yeah, all third party 3090s seem to be about 3 slots thick, 29-30cm long and have three fans.

For reference (That's a 1070/1080), the middle one is 2 slots, the other are 3.

And in SLI you can see how they don't leave room to breath.

Note: I searched this one because I have one so I can confirm that they're gigantinc.

I wonder about new Ampere features, that and what improvements in ray tracing it could bring. I expect up to twice the perf.

But this time there is no oven. It's a 3090 heating those cookies.
Giant 3-slot GPUs tend to run (relative to their wattage) really cool, in my opinion, so those would be some fairly uncooked cookies.
My Asus 2080-Ti has a 3 slot configuration, and that thing literally never goes above the mid 50 degrees celsius. My old 970 would have made for much better cooking tools

My new 4K display needs a GPU that can more than keep up. Give me that RTX 3090 and DLSS!

I was actually looking at background removal without greenscreens just last week (for my online lectures). Everything that currently exists is either expensive, or sucks, or both. So this is nice.

Only thing that is missing is Jensen's kitchen as one of the premade backgrounds.

3070 for 499! LMAO I HAVE MY GPU, that's more than enough with my 1080p 144hz monitor playing XCOM2 and Parkitect.
