well geeeeee ... i fucking wonder why ...but it seems that the PS4 and Switch versions have had much better sales than it
Edit oh wait ys8, nvm.well geeeeee ... i fucking wonder why ...
because the port was shit ... delayed like 8 months(!) literally hours before release ... and still full price 8 months laterActually i would like to know that too.
Lol. Delayed release, broken ports, questionable localization. Of course nobody bought that shit. It's their own fault for choosing NISA.
Never forget the big holeLol. Delayed release, broken ports, questionable localization. Of course nobody bought that shit. It's their own fault for choosing NISA.
This makes me unreasonably angry.
yup, that definitely sounds like something people should totally drop $60 onAt least Ys VIII is a decent port now. Well, if you're on AMD GPUs... and hey, there's a community patch for nVidia owners at least..?
Makes me wonder if Kondo know all those drama surrounding the PC version. This makes me unreasonably angry.
Why would a version that was delayed multiple times until it came out 8 months later still full-price and with wonky port-quality and hasn't had any good enough deals to maybe offset that sell badly?
Gee, I WONDER WHY
Fuck you too Kondo
To be a little fair to NISA, they're still doing PC ports.Yeah, I don't see Falcom actually asking of PC ports anymore, though I think they still want translations and releases in the West. With a normal publisher, this could still lead to PC ports, since porting a game, if done by people who know what they are doing, is not a very expensive or time consuming affair compared with translation. With NISA, it seems more and more likely I'll be switching to some console in the near future to keep playing Falcom games.

RPG Site: During an interview in 2017, you mentioned that Falcom as a company would like all of your titles to release on Steam. Is that still a goal for the company, with titles like Cold Steel III – and maybe others as well?
Toshihiro Kondo: Our stance has not changed – we’d still love for people to be able to play these games on PC, but the truth of the matter is that we are a small company, and we can only develop for one main platform at a time, and we cannot divert our resources for ports and things like that would get in the way of our work developing new games. That’s why we have partnerships with companies like NIS America in order to help us do those things – and that’s the situation we’re in right now, relying on other companies to do those things. I am sorry that we aren’t able to get these games out for everyone at the same time, but that’s just the situation we’re in.
Teeeeechnically, we don't know yet.we are getting Cold Steel 3, right?
YOU KNOW, THEY KNOW, I KNOW!!!!!Teeeeechnically, we don't know yet.
...Oh come on.
...Instead of moving over to UE4, like their younger devs wanted (and would make multiplatform development 10x easier), Falcom are making yet another in-house engine. You know, so PC ports have to start from scratch again.

Not that surprising. The old guard doesn't want to give up custom engines, maybe because the programmers feel they would be out of a job, and so it won't happen.

Which rumors?Between this and the rumors going around about Falcom Sound Team and Kato I'm really starting to question Falcom's upper management...
Which rumors?
This looks SO good. My only real (?) experience with pinball was the one that was bundled into Windows, but I enjoyed that a lot,
He's already embraced anime, so it's only a matter of time.or @lashman will embrace capitalism before NISA acknowledges them

They don't want to pay the engine license's fees. That is sadly very common with Japanese developers, it's been a hot topic in fighting games for a long time.I don't understand why a small developer like Falcom whose resources are already being stretched thin over a lot of output for their size wants to invest into making their own engine instead of using something that exists. All of their games have not exactly been that great on the technical side tbh, so why not just license a proven engine??
I thought last console generation was a wake-up call for japanese devs and they finally realized that you don't always need to make everything from scratch if there are perfectly viable alternatives (that have a good chance of being better than whatever they can come up with anyway).
I think I'd give in and dig my PS4 from the dusty box it has been since last year to play this one when the EN release gets announced. I want Crossbell so much
tbh i expected it much worse review-wise , there is surprising amount of them who loved itThose negative Skywalker reviews. Goddammn. Will wait till it's out digital to see it.
Eh, I don't expect much going into this. I can't imagine that JJ of all people could produce anything I could really like, but I will ultimately judge the movie by its merits. Those negative Skywalker reviews. Goddammn. Will wait till it's out digital to see it.
My biggest dissapointment hearing about the movie isEh, I don't expect much going into this. I can't imagine that JJ of all people could produce anything I could really like, but I will ultimately judge the movie by its merits.
But... they were made with information available outside of the game in mind. You might have played pirate games on awful hardware, in a language you didn't know... I did too, I played a lot of adventure games which were fucking moronic in their logic, and that's literally the reason why I don't play them today. Fuck you Sam&Max.No 'we' didn't.
I grew up playing mostly pirated copies that had no manual, including obscure (and bad) RPG's, management games and RTS's often even in English, a language that I hardly even spoke at that point in time, meaning I had to figure it all out myself, including the very language of the game.
And that's precisely why I loved my first play through of dark souls so much, because it gave me that feeling again that hadn't felt in a decade or more.
That's so stupid. Like, none of their games are technical or visual marvels or are doing anything particularly impressive or unusual where they would need a custom engine to eek out the most performance of whatever. They don't want to pay the engine license's fees. That is sadly very common with Japanese developers, it's been a hot topic in fighting games for a long time.
I couldn't agree more, it makes absolutely no sense but I am afraid that Japanese developers will keep this trend alive. That's so stupid. Honestly this just sounds they will be left behind next-gen (again) and will make ports more difficulty. I cannot see how this in anyway could lead to a better long-term result then just licensing UE4 and calling it a day.
I mean maybe it works out for them, but I'm very skeptical.
Turning in my Falcom shill card after the Ys VIII NISA debacle (and NISA taking CS3) is increasingly looking like it was the best decision.
I can't "blame" you for that.I learnt my lesson from that last Jedi, never ever going to watch star wars film AGAIN in the cinema.
