A bit of mostly useless math:

D:OS released on June 30, 2014.
D:OS2, which is obviously great, but still quite derivative in many aspects, released on September 14, 2017.
That's 1172 days for an iterative sequel.

Going 1172 days forward from D:OS2 we'd reach November 29, 2020.
But it seems pretty likely it would take them longer to do a BG game than a direct sequel.

(Also, the gap from Divinity 2 to D:OS was 1683 days, but they also made Dragon Commander in between)

yeah, you're right ... it's probably gonna be the latter half of next year ... if not later

Some serious hype building after that. Can't wait till next year or 2021 to see the game.

I got a newsletter from Larian about PAX, but it also had some other stuff in it...

You are burdened with a great power devouring you from within.
How far down the path of darkness will you let it take you?
The fate of Faerûn is on your party’s shoulders.
Will you carry it to salvation, or descend with it to hell?

Is that going to be their analogy to the MC Slayer powers on BG2?

Side note anyone remember those things? They were generally ignorable because your regular skills/spells were way better. Until you got the Slayer transform in Throne of Bhaal, except using that thing murdered (hey a joke!) your rep so good aligned players would rarely use it.

Wonder what sort of Mind Flayer powers we are gonna get here.

Aw. I was hoping they'd place part of the UI on the side of the screen.
You can definitely tell it's a Larian game. Who'd have thought? Looks very sharp so far.

Looking at those fight screens, Turn-based confirmed?
I can't really tell. It doesn't have the turn order anywhere? Looks like RTwP at a glance.

Edit: it literally says turn-based right there, I'm blind

I am so excited! This looks amazing. Interesting choice for the player dialogue. The fact that it says turned-based suggests that there will be a RTwP option as well, which is smart. I think people were divided close to 50/50 on what they preferred.

I'm going to be at work when this streams today, and then have an appointment immediately after work so this leak will take the edge off of not getting to watch it until later tonight.

It specifically saying "turn based" on screen gives me a lot of hope that it's an option. I mean a 100% turn based game wouldn't need to tell you.
You're not wrong but in one of the other screens there's a %-to-hit chance displayed and no mention on turn based on the top. I can't personally recall any game that did this kind of info display that wasn't TB.
I also hope you can play in TB or RTwP so everyone can get what they like the most.

I actually welcome it being turn-based. Knowing the P&P rules are precisely that and seeing them be wonkily translated into RTwP and trying to figure out how to do what you normally could in a turn-based scheme is kind of hard. Looking at you, Kingmaker.

The one thing I'm not too hot on is the general aesthetic being a little more D:OS than BG, but we'll see. I love the armor detailing and character design. You can actually make pretty characters this time around!

I was hoping they would go for Divinity OS style turn-based combat since those games had some of my favorite RPG battle systems.
But, I agree that they should have the option to choose between that and RTwP for the players that prefer that kind of combat.

I do like a turn based or RTwP system, I enjoy both but I have this desire for am action/RPG open world game set in FR in the vein of Skyrim and the likes.

I woul have liked to explore an area around Waterdeep, Cormyr and/or Myth Dranor with modern graphics, it would be super fun.

So here's my conspiracy theory.

Do you think RTWP was scrapped early in pre-production to accommodate for the console platforms?

I know PoE was ported to consoles so it's not an unheard of concept. But just thinking in broader terms of accessibility for the platform.

Based on that I'm guessing either Turn Based is an option (the way difficulty might be), or it has some sections where it will force TB for some reason and the rest is RTwP.

As Durante said why have it say "Turn Based" if the whole thing is turn based. It would just be in combat or something. Larian has better UI designers than that. So something is up for sure.

I'm not getting my hopes up for a RTwP option. I think the "turn based" in that screenshot just indicates being in TB mode for specific non-combat encounters like traps/stealth and other action-based skills.

its based on D&D 5th edition ... and iirc math of this one is completely different than 20years old 2nd edition ... not even sure how would RTwP work on this one (for example how bonus actions work and all the special reaction stuff that classes have )

Gather your party and return to the Forgotten Realms in a tale of fellowship and betrayal,
sacrifice and survival, and the lure of absolute power.

Forged with the new Divinity 4.0 engine, Baldur’s Gate 3 gives you unprecedented freedom to explore, experiment, and interact with a world that truly reacts to your choices. A grand, cinematic narrative brings you closer to your characters than ever before, as you venture through the Forgotten Realms of Dungeons & Dragons in Larian’s biggest adventure yet.

The game did look a lot like Original Sin 2 in a lot of ways but I'm fine with that, it looks good. I might actually play some early access to give it a try.

Yeah looks like no RTwP option. It's turn based.

I'm not mad since DOS2 was so amazing, but it's a bit of sad note to see that system probably not likely to ever be revisited.

That all said, that demo looks amazing. It's a lot like DOS2, but way more D&D flavor. The conversations take a much more cinematic bent almost like Witcher 3 or something.

Looking like it is shaping up well. Still clearly a ways off tho.

I'm less bothered by the lack of RTwP than I otherwise might be due to the Pathfinder sequel seeming to be shaping up quite nicely and still featuring it.

To the top of my wishlist you go!

Never properly played Baulder's Gate 1 and 2, so might give that a try soon, but I have played so many games inspired by them.
Always been a fan of RTwP, and other games have got me to thinking I can like the turn-based approach too.

Now to properly finish the other Larian games in time for full launch!

Finally got to watch it! I was at work and didn't have any time to catch it live... Then I hurried home only for the power to be out due to an ice storm! Well, the power is back on now and I watched the presentation plus some Fextralife videos.

For the most part, it's exactly what I wanted. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the origin characters doubling as PCs and companions. I prefer a custom PC, and was hoping they would just use the backgrounds from D&D to add some flavor. I know that they are optional, but I feel like choosing a custom character over the pre-mades gives you a watered down experience in comparison. That said, I am going custom. It's D&D - I'm not playing someone else's character.

The demonstration wasn't that great but I chalk it up to this type of game not being the best for live presentations. I have few doubts that the game will turn out really well.

The main thing I need to see from Larian is how in depth the skill system and dialogue is as that's always been their weakest aspect. Having multiple ways to do quests is extremely important to me too, and I don't just mean simple stuff like going stealth or loud or using a simple speech check to convince someone to give me what I want. That kind of stuff you see in wannabe AAA rpgs nowadays, I want to see stuff like that new vegas quest flowchart for some of them.

There are quite of few videos of the press rounds that show a better presentation than what Swen could do live.

I think I want to go into the Early Access of this and see how it evolves, and not just use it as a preorder.

My only concern is the balancing. DOS: 1 and 2 were so tightly balanced, exploration was basically discouraged and punished. I almost missed trash mobs in Divinity. I want a massive open world (large levels) where I can go where I want, not follow a linear tightly scripted path. Everything else looks amazing.

I loved that aspect of Divinity though. Every level felt like a tight puzzle where I needed to figure out the best way forward to succeed.
However, it destroyed some of the replayability

Is there a goos gameplay preview video out?

These are pretty good summaries.

It's basically just summarizing what was shown over the same footage. I believe there is some footage of what we missed when Swen ran out of time(goblins, worgs, tieflings). O rmaybe that was the RPS video that showed that? Sorry, I watched a lot of BG3 coverage last night.

I'm really not so happy with the D:OS look of so many things, from the UI to the small icons of various items and even a few assets in the world. But other than that, the level of detail and rather meticulous adherence to D&D 5's rules makes me quite happy.

I'm also really sorry for Swen, that critical miss was painful to watch.
