Until Dawn, Man from Medan, Luigi's Mansion :face-with-stuck-out-tongue-and-winking-eye: , Year Walk, Confess My Love, Undying, Betrayer, Among The Sleep.

Slayaway Camp isn't spooky as such but it's a Horror Film homage puzzle game and it's great.

Oh and our very own Grindwheel Games releases.

They may not be exactly what you want but there's a good spread of games there that should lead you to something that interests you.

When did JC4 drop Windows 7? I'm sure i read about it losing Windows 7 compatibility a long while ago... :thinking-face: maybe it was a dream?

That team does a lot of stuff like that.
On one hand, I'm always happy to see some FMV stuff being released, especially when it comes from some young guys and gals, who usually aren't very found of the genre.
Sadly, it seems they basically just make some crappy stuff based on memes, and not much more.

It's perfectly possible to take a few friends, have some fun, and make an enjoyable FMV game, like:

So about 7 glasses of water a day if they don't want to die if they 'only' sell 7, 000 copies that'd be about 3 years worth of drinking and lord knows how big the game would be to download. lol. If this goes meta and they get trolled then i can see them drinking water for the rest of their lives and for generations to come and the download would be in terabytes. Could they be sued for wrongful advertising if they don't drink them all?

edit:
Oh, the "My girlfriend's dog dabbed itself to death and now it's haunting my toothbrush" people. Makes sense.

Update Highlights

Today’s update includes a number of bug fixes and system performance improvements.

Full Update Notes

SteamVR:
  • Added microphone volume and mute controls to the SteamVR dashboard.
  • Audio mirroring (beta): Added independent control of mirror volume and headset volume. This will add an additional volume slider to the SteamVR dashboard for controlling mirrored audio for spectators. Adjustments made to the volume of the headset will not change the volume of the desktop mirror, and vice versa. Enable via Settings -> Audio (Advanced).
  • Added "Far" dashboard position option.
  • Added Play Area -> Wall Height user setting.
  • Added Play Area -> Activation Distance visualization.
  • Standing-only room setups now hide the center circle during gameplay, by default. (configurable in Settings->Play Area).
  • Improved visual consistency for Settings interface.
  • Allow physical mouse override in Desktop View for laptop trackpads.
  • Improved shutdown behavior (Do not block add-ons when crashing during an otherwise normal shutdown. )This avoids some annoyance when using third party drivers that often crash when being unloaded at shutdown.

SteamVR Bug Fixes / Performance improvements:
  • Fixed multiple crashes in SteamVR.
  • Fixed bug where Index audio volume could be reset when switching between multiple headsets.
  • Fixed cursor positioning on Desktop View for non-default cursors.
  • Fixed bug where laser pointer would elongate on mouse lock in Desktop View.
  • Fixed mouse lock and physical mouse override randomly not working in Desktop View.
  • Fixed rare crash on startup.
  • Fixed memory leak in HL:A loading screens
  • Fixed spurious warning messages for Desktop View.
  • Fixed users seeing “Hmd Not Found Presence Failed (126)” which sometimes shows up as SteamVR Home saying “Minimum supported version is v1.9.16”. (Bypass hardware detection for new clients when SteamVR is already running).
  • Fixed GPU memory leak in HL:A loading screens (Linux)
  • Fixed HL:A crash (Linux).
  • Reduced UI memory and CPU usage for most users (changed some system UIs to load on demand).
  • Reduced memory used by vrwebhelper at startup for certain rarely-used features.
  • Reduced dashboard GPU memory usage, and improved GPU performance when changing dashboard tabs.

SteamVR Input:
  • Changed binding UI to retain the current binding file's name when using the "Replace Default Binding" option.
  • Fixed Replace Default in the binding UI to replace the specific default binding being edited instead of the first one in the list.

SteamVR Home:
  • Opened access to HL:Alyx environments to all users
  • Fixed “The host is moving…” notification that had lost its download / dismiss buttons
  • Fixed bug on Linux causing milky haze and broken sky rendering in the left eye.
  • Improved startup error messages.
  • Fixed five-fingered hands not working with buttons in some environments
  • Tools: Fixed crash in model editor when opening a second model without content.
  • Tools: Fixed memory leak when exporting a movie in the SFM.
  • Tools: Can now bake sky lighting from game textures (previously could only bake sky lighting from your own content images).
  • Tools: Fixed Estimate lighting from HDR skybox hang on skyboxes without content.
  • Tools: Fixed hitch during map compile.

After 50 hours I just finished RDR2, while RDR1 is still better than this one, it's truly a masterpiece and from now on one of my favorite games of all time (top 10, not 5 or 3) it was an amazing story and a truly breathtaking journey, while I have complains, I think I can safely say that I still love the result of this game.

50 hours, over 1000 screenshots, damn god.

I'll have to dig it out but PC Gamer magazine had a write up about Hardspace Shipbreaker recently and they liked it. You don't just chop stuff up willy-nilly, well you can but you get better salvage and access to the ships if you think about things. You have to/can shutdown systems and you'll get a face full of door if you open a pressurised hatch for example. Sounds like it could shape up into something really fun.

It's on their site too.

This one came in hot so please forgive any gram badder, who would have guessed that doing all this remotely would be so hard? Anyway, let’s get to it!

Initiative
The initiative rules haven't changed much, but the implications are different due to the round being shared across lanes. Players still take turns performing actions until both players pass in a row, and then you go to combat. This sequence continues across rounds, so while you can't control initiative across lanes you can still do so across rounds. There are more rounds per game, although each round is shorter. And "Get Initiative" spells still exist, although they have been renamed to "Quick."

Mana
There is now a single Mana pool that starts at 3 and increases by 1 per turn. Some cards and abilities are crosslane, but in general cards only affect the lane that they’re being cast from and you need a hero in lane to cast a card of their color.

Mana costs have been reduced for low-end and mid-tier cards, but high-end cards remain expensive. If you want to blow up a lane it might be the only thing you do in a round. Balance in the original game with these high impact spells was tricky – you had some decks that went from casting zero big spells to a big spell in every lane.

Initiative + Mana = Harmony?
Each action costs at least 1 mana, so without things like a refresh from CM, you can no longer delay turns for free - you need to weigh the costs of waiting to respond VS saving enough mana for your high impact spells.

The combination of one shared mana pool and adding a mana cost for all actions has taken some of the weight from the initiative system in the original game. The initiative system was something that experienced players enjoyed immensely, but had a steep learning curve for new players and had some really negative side effects if it caught you off guard.

Some players ignored initiative. Other players felt that controlling initiative was the main strategic concern, so we don't think this is a change that should be taken lightly. This disconnect may be responsible for the communication breakdown we see playing out in the community.

We think that the current system gets to a similar place where the actions you take, and the order you take them are both very important without the big downsides of the learning cliff and the resulting struggles with lockout.

New Defaults
We’ve been trying to move away the very technically-worded cards from the past. They were always very accurate, but sometimes it felt like you needed to be a programmer to work out what actually was going to happen.

Cards and abilities will affect a lane unless stated otherwise. Any verb (stun, disarm, etc) lasts until the end of the round unless another duration is set. All cards with persistent effects are labeled as an enchantments, and last until dispelled. All permanent modifications are labeled as such.

Arrows point forward by default but can be modified temporarily. At the end of the turn, or if you move the unit, its arrows reset.

Keyword Changes

Armor
Armor in the old game caused some issues – early in development we ended up doubling all stat values to compensate for how dramatic the impact of a single point of armor was. It also added a lot of math when you had multiple damage sources. Now each point of armor can block one point of damage and is refreshed at the beginning of the round.

Cleave/Siege
These used to be dependent on the unit being blocked to function. Now they are active all of the time.

Feeble
Feeble is new to the game, but we wanted to talk about it anyway so we could show off one of the basic hero reworks! Each unit attacking a feeble unit will deal excess damage to the tower instead. For example, if Debbi (4/3) is blocked by a unit (1/3), and uses "No Accident" leaving it with 1 remaining health, 3 damage will be dealt to the tower and her passive ability will trigger.

Card Unlocks
All players will unlock cards playing in any mode. The pace should be such that players are excited by getting fun cards to play with, but aren’t overwhelmed when they see too many new cards being played by an opponent.

Players that are new to the game, enjoy casual play, like to learn by doing instead of reading, or just enjoy a sense of progression would start in general matchmaking. They can grow their card pools while matching against opponents with a similar number of card unlocks, giving them a controlled environment to learn in. Hero Draft even pulls from the combined set of cards that you and your opponent have unlocked to keep things extra fair. Eventually these players can switch to Ranked mode and automated tournaments if they want to experience a more competitive environment.

There will also be the option to jump right in to scrimmages and custom tournaments, these will let players set rules or allow any card sets they see fit. All players will probably enjoy these from time to time, but advanced players can start playing these immediately.

Your Feedback
After our call for suggestions about how to improve the game, we were overwhelmed by the responses, both in the quantity (it took us a week to catch up on reading them all and they're still coming!) and also the quality. The community took the task seriously and wrote in with a wide range of suggestions, from gameplay changes and features through to feedback on localization and possible founder benefits. We aren't able to respond individually to every submission, but we were able to compile a list of promising ideas from the community and get a sense of where people most wanted the team to spend their attention. Luckily that lined up well with the teams internal plans. Here's a taste of some of the things people asked for, and our current plans.

Progression
The most popular request outside of gameplay changes was for more robust progression systems. People wanted to feel like their time spent with the game was being rewarded, and also wanted a better measure of their competitive strength so they could see themselves improving. We would like people to be able to feel a sense of progression in the game through unlocking cards and other collectables in the normal course of play, without being forced to spend money, but we're still experimenting with different reward structures.

For competitive play, we are working on a design similar to the Underlords ranked system, which we hope will provide people with goals to aim for, a clear path to get there, and a meaningful way to measure yourself against other players. We're also thinking through ways we might be able to connect these systems with Artifact's robust tournament support.

Quality of Life Features
Tracking your competitive rank is just one aspect of giving people the tools to improve at the game. We're also fleshing out player profiles, letting people track statistics about the games they've played, view match histories, and watch replays.

Additionally, we're looking at frequently requested quality of life and social features, such as chat history, the ability to spectate friends, access to more game modes when challenging friends, and saving templates for tournament settings.

Also in this odds and ends category is feedback that we got from many non-English speaking communities (sometimes read via machine translation!) that they would like to see a different approach to localizing hero names, preferring a transliteration of the English name, rather than literal translations of their names. We'll be talking to our localization team about this.

Single Player
A lot of you recognized the potential for telling stories about the DOTA world through Artifact and loved what we'd already done through comics and flavor text. We are doubling down on that effort through a single-player campaign which will both teach new players the game and continue the story that began with A Call To Arms. Tying in to our progressions systems, we want people to feel rewarded no matter which way they choose to play the game, whether it be in competitive play or the campaign.

Looking forward to your thoughts!

I've hit a streak of bad / disappointing games both new and backlog over the past 2 weeks and it's getting downright stressful. I replayed Titanfall 2 in the middle just to play something I know is good. Procession to Calvary was at least very solid, if short.

I've already mentioned my disappointments with DOOM Eternal and HL:A, and now adding the (free) DLC for The Messenger to that list: It takes everything great about the main game, and makes a terrible version of it. Incredibly frustrating enemies that you don't interact with, sloggy bosses, bad checkpoints, overall bad room design, a bunch of random swimming for no reason I can see? Even after spending hours on the main game going back and clearing up everything and having a blast, I honestly don't want to play past the first 40 minutes of the DLC, to the point I uninstalled it.

There's a couple other bad games but not going to do a big write up for them all. Hopefully I can find something I actually like out of my backlog next.

Edit: Oh and I got temporarily suspended in Warzone because I forgot and left Cheat Engine open when I was trying to get past a bugged boss in one of said games last night, so that's great

But, I just had to watch a few seconds of the recent "retro" trailer, and as soon as one of Koshiro's new tracks kicks in (it plays until around the 00:40 mark), I was fully on board.
Please let us know your impressions later on. I'm mainly in it for Koshiro's OST since I'm pretty lukewarm on the art style myself. I'm not saying pixel art style will automatically be better, but... I don't know. Kind of hard to explain.

That's bullshit and I wish nvidia would fight it. There is no difference from regular hardware and I dread the day this comes to other virtualized offerings. We've said it before but this is only about publishers wanting you to purchase twice for the privilege to play games you already own.
of course ... but people will just let them do it - because pretty much no one gives a fuck anymore

I wouldn't say that, it's more that it's up to nvidia to fight it. People can't do anything other than boycott which, for a market as niche as streaming, won't be enough.

there's really not much nvidia can do tbh ... the only way they can fight is to pay up ... which they clearly don't want to do

Nvidia doesn't want to fight because they also don't want to get on the bad side of developers and publishers that put all those nice nvidia logos in the majority of the games since they work with pretty much all of them in some capacity these days. I guess they think their GPU market is more important than letting their streaming endeavor die an unjust death, imagine if games no longer did any kind of optimization or ensuring they work with nvidia GPUs as well as with AMD, they could completely reverse the scales. Maybe they hope someone else will fight it and win and then they can do whatever without disgruntling anyone.

What does audio mixing means? Checked Twitter and Doom subreddits and they sai Doom Eternals audio mixing is poor and Mick didn't have control over it.
Mixing comprises of many things but in this particular case it looks like the soundtrack's dynamic range is compressed to hell and back.

Nvidia will never fight it because it pisses off the game companies they need to integrate their tech.

I just wish that service had gotten bigger so they would be able to use market share or something since by all accounts its generally way better than Stadia. Now we are stuck with Stadia (lol) or whatever Xbox puts out if you want streaming.

I do still have some motivation. But if I'm to create a Falcom general OT I want to do it right. Well-researched with relevant info and all that. Modern Kiseki is 9 games deep (11 if counting Nayuta and Akatsuki), Ys is also another deep rabbit hole. I'll have to highlight Brandish as well. Not to mention stuff like Xanadu Next, Gurumin, Zwei etc. I will have my work cut out for me. :dana_fear:

A Kiseki OT would be more manageable. Since I'm currently on the final chapter of Zero, I'll have to find some time to do it in a week's time, maybe.
You could also just ask here :)
This works too. :dana_blanket:

Do we have a board and card game thread? I've been building up a collection of them recently. I got Risk, Ouija, Tiny Towns, Magic the Gathering, Chronicles of Crime, Jaws, The Lord of the Rings LCG, Horrified, Jurassic Park Danger!, Minecraft, Labyrinth, Coup, Cards against Humanity, and Pokemon TCG. I also just bought Portal, Lewis & Clark, and another single player card game. I might get Fallout and Fallout Shelter eventually.

Dragon Marked For Death is out now, and is currently 20% off:

This Steam release is a "complete pack" of sorts, since it includes all characters, the season pass content, and all available DLC/content (including a new 3.0.0 update, that includes 2 new characters).

There's a promotion running until May 4th, in which early buyers are supposed to get some exclusive equipment (Striker Gear equipment DLC, which was a pre-order bonus on the Switch).

It doesn't make sense for Nvidia to pay big money to pubs/devs for their games. The only reason GNOW is an appealing product is because its cheap and utilizes your library. If they start paying all the big companies for exclusivity and moneyhats...the service will go up in price and become more unappealing. So for Nvidia they will lose more money this way while looking more anticonsumer. There is nothing in it for them.

Devs and pubs are showing how greedy they are in all of this. And it will all blow up in their face because in the end as they lose potential revenue via additional steam sales.

These companies like Google/Microsoft want you to subscribe to a service or they don't want you to own anything you buy. Or even worse they want you to buy games you already paid money for. Corporations run out of money and gamers don't respond to greed. Its trash business models that will never work for cloud gaming. I don't see gamepass model working with Xcloud. Nvidia friendly approach is also falling apart and Stadia is basically near the bottom of the toilet.

I'm still hoping one day Valve will get into the streaming business and just sell streaming licenses for individual games as if they were dlc. Let me buy licenses for games I want to stream and devs will get their cut. It will be a much more sustainable business model for everyone. I can't think of anything else that will work at this point.
