I fished for some good old nerdy convos with Tabletop RPG and you people talk beverage for one page :thinking-blob:
...
FINE !

I drink water. For one because I was until very recently too poor to buy alcohol, and I may or may not have flirted with excess in another life. And I already have several risk factors, as doctors say, so I try to avoid adding one.
Good thing I love water :smiling-eyes:

Coffee too. Surely a bit much, but at the same time it's really not black.
I'm curious to try tea, but too lazy to find a good source, I don't want to buy the shitty supermarket teas.
Still super curious to try Yerba Mate, but never found any.

Austria
Drinks for me: mainly water, sometimes tea, sometimes water+syrup, sometimes a smoothie, and once a week I get together with friends for a videochat, where I drink 1-2 beers (Puntigamer usually, sometimes Hirter - both are Austrian) depending if I feel like it. Enough to get tipsy but not drunk. Coffee only if I'm tired and need it to stay awake for work (home office).

EA has Sims 4 in the brain!

I genuinely hope that EA (and Valve) are close with the EA Access implementation. Not that I want the sub, just some of the games.
And when's that Mass Effect Trilogy remaster coming, it's been a while since Shinobi implied it was happening.

Everything's delayed. :weary-face:
Elenarie (DICE dev) on ERA stated EA access on Steam was delayed due to the the pandemic, but it's coming.

So my senses are that EA will release their old games on Steam at the same time at the moment when EA access is ready.

I'm in a mood for a 3D JRPG.
Anything on PC, or PS2/GC/Wii (emulation).

Any suggestions?
Couple that come to mind (on PC):

Atelier Sophie (or one of the other Atelier games on Steam, Ryza, Arland and Ayesha are first games in their respective sub-trilogies, though I've only played Sophie so far)
Nier: Automata
Tales of Berseria
Tokyo Xanadu eX+
Trails in the Sky
World of Final Fantasy
Xanadu Next
Ys VIII
Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection

SMT: Nocturne or Digital Devil Saga, both run and look great on an emu

Hektor Good selection. Good selection. Wanna try something fun w/ the Captain? Pour a shot of Captain Morgan, 3-5 ice cubes, add 120ml of your favorite lager, add 50ml Lemonade. No shaking required. Lime wedge for style or screw it. 😋 A shot of Jack, some raspberry liqueur (maybe 45ml), lime juice (25ml), shake these, pour onto ice, add Sprite/Lemon-Lime soda, serve.
I generally don't do cocktails at home because i would always end up throwing a lot of Juices and such away :H02dead:
I'll Keep it in mind tho.

Why don't you move in with me and tend my bar :h02smug:

Interesting to see how many people don't (or rarely) drink alcohol here. I have plenty of alcoholic drinks here at home, going from chocolate flavored gin to beer, wine and stuff for cocktails. But we're only drinking alcohol occasionally. I don't really need alcohol in my life. I just enjoy it once in a while.

Alcohol is both freaking expensive and not the best thing when dealing with mental health issues. I'd argue it's not the best idea while confinement is going on unless you know what you are doing :p.

Is this about the terrible mix of the released soundtrack or something else?

What does audio mixing means? Checked Twitter and Doom subreddits and they sai Doom Eternals audio mixing is poor and Mick didn't have control over it.

The next 10 days are insane in terms of releases!
I mean, there's frequently cool games around all year, and I buy a lot of stuff that I'll get to eventually (or at least I would like to think I'll get to ;)), but it's not something I absolutely can't wait to play.

But these 10 days are insane!
Besides games of various interest I already pre-ordered, or helped crowdfund (Trials of Mana, XCOM: Chimera Squad, Help Will Come Tomorrow, 112 Operator, ...), and plenty more I would like to get, but will have to leave for another time, there's 3 games I really can't wait to get my hands on:

INTI CREATES are a team I'm very found of, since they are one of the few teams that carries on the banner of Japanese 8-bit/16-bit side-scrollers that I particularly like.
Mega Man 9 was kind of a dream game to me, and it and Mega Man 2 are my favourite entries in the series. Their games never fail to engage me (I'm currently finally playing Blaster Master Zero, and it's another top notch game), so I won't even hesitate to get their new one.

The game is out tomorrow, it will cost $39.99USD/€39.99/£35.99, and it's a "complete edition" of sorts, since it includes all DLCs previously released.
Yeah, the game is more expensive than what most people are willing to pay for this kind of game, but that's basically what one of their Nintendo DS games cost me, so I'm totally fine with that.

Do note, because they frequently have time-limited promotions on their games during launch, but they suck at advertising them (unless you watch their trailers until the end, you will surely miss the information), and this one is no exception: purchases before May 4th will include the early-adopter bonus/DLC Striker Gear equipment items.

Here's a trailer that explains what the game is about:

I love beat'em ups, and the Streets of Rage series is a personal favourite. In fact, Streets of Rage 2 is my favourite game in the genre, period.
I had some initial mixed-feelings about Streets of Rage 4, since I would prefer the game to be developed by a Japanese team familiar with the series, a pixel-art art-style (yeah, call me crazy, but I'm not too found of the look of the new entry; it looks nice and all, but it's not what I wanted from a new sequel to the series), and a full soundtrack done by Yuzo Koshiro, since the series is, in my mind, very closely tied to his kick-ass soundtracks (especially for games 1 and 2).

But, I just had to watch a few seconds of the recent "retro" trailer, and as soon as one of Koshiro's new tracks kicks in (it plays until around the 00:40 mark), I was fully on board. :thumbsupblob:

Here's that trailer:

What can I say about Cloudpunk. I mean, look at those screenshots/videos!
I've been anticipating this one since 2018, when it was announced. The visuals, and the cyberpunk setting, ensured I would be buying this one.
Exploring a cyberpunk setting, on foot and on hover car, interacting with characters, and doing quests, and your actions/choices will impact the proceedings. Yeah, this one appears to be right up my alley. (y)

Here's a trailer:

EDIT: I forgot one other title! I mean, I even placed it as number 3 on my wishlist! :giggle:

I'm a sucker for old-school shmups, of the non-bullet hell kind, so this one is surely a day-one purchase, both because of the title itself, but also to hopefully show to CITY CONNECTION that there's interest in the genre on the platform, since it's been a while since we had an older shmup available on Steam. ;)

I'm feeling an itch for a collaborative RPG, not necessarily an MMO but something that makes player rely on each other. I'm aware that MH:W is probably that but I'm not far along into it enough just yet and I do like to take my time in ways that are probably frustrating to others. I also would lean toward games that don't require you to research every dungeon and that are more or less predicated on you going in there blind to some degree.

Any suggestion?

I'm finally playing Blaster Master Zero, and I've been having a lot of fun.

Despite enjoying the series (even the WiiWare entry, Overdrive), for some reason I was yet to play the last two entries that launched on Steam last year.

Blaster Master Zero is a lot of fun. INTI CREATES are one of the best teams around using the "8-bit but not quite aesthetic" (meaning, the sound and look is just what you would expect from a NES game, but there's a fluidity to it that you wouldn't get in the original hardware), and this game doesn't disappoint.
It has the fun of a classic Japanese metroidvania title, but the difficulty is certainly not what you would expect from some titles in the genre, since the game is very accessible on that front.

If anyone enjoys metroidvanias, and/or games with an 8-bit aesthetic, and a catchy soundtrack, do check out the game.
Sadly, checking the number of reviews, not many people are getting these games, which is too bad, because they are a lot of fun.

Here's a trailer:

And here's a couple of my favourite tracks in the game so far (the sound quality on these Youtube videos are some notches below what you get in-game):

---

Speaking of Blaster Master Zero, the sequel is also available on Steam:

And tomorrow, along with INTI CREATES' new game Dragon Marked For Death, a character from that game will be released as DLC for Blaster Master Zero:

I feel the same way about alcohol. I generally have prolonged periods where I dont drink at all. Nights out where I do drink are far and inbetween. Right now with the lockdown I actually drink more (as mentioned, with friends on videochats), but it's still very little. I always have a sense of shame about drinking since I know what it does to people. I cant count the times I was a teetotaler buzzkill and people tried to convince me to have a drink with them.

Same! ;)

Earlier videos almost made it seem like all the game featured was flying around, but recent gameplay footage shows on-foot exploration, interaction with characters, so it does look like it will be a nice adventure game, with some open world exploration, including hidden content/missions that you will only get by finding and exploring things. Yeah, I've been hyped for CP for months.

Watched a recent extended dev stream though and it really took the wind out of my sails.

The writing and voice acting put me off something terrible.

Went from Day One to Wait & See.

I don´t Drink alcohol, too many cases os alcoholism in my family, so I just drink mainly this:
When I lived in Brazil, I used to drink a lot of Guarana Antartica. Maybe it's even worse for health than Coca Cola :steam_cleanseal:
But it's the kind of drink you hate on first taste but can"t help yourself to drink more :p

I do drink alcohol sometimes, but almost never alone. And these days in lockdown, I don't see anyone so no alcohol ;)

Started playing Nier Automata yesterday and put ~4h into it already.
It's still too early to know if it's an 8 or 9 or a 10 but it definitely is something special. It's clear the game's main goal is to mindfuck the player and nothing is at seems but if at the end of the day the story is still coherent, and not some nonsensical rambling like it's typical in japanese games, I'll be happy.

I just hope there's some sort of explanation why the android is a cute girl in a revealing outside other than "Tits and Ass"...

Here's a question that's been on my mind today and maybe someone can help with:

What are some good horror or paranormal themed games that aren't survival-horror resource management types of things? So not stuff like like Alien: Isolation, Resident Evil or even Amnesia TDD. There are those games where you just have to collect trinkets before an enemy auto-kills you, but that's not quite what I'm looking for either.

Just games that are horror or paranormal themed or creepy. I read that Paratopic is something like that. PT also comes to mind, even though it does have a trinkety vibe to it. Oxenfree also kinda fills this niche. And that section of Firewatch where there were elements of a paranormal mystery was quite good too. Some good (old or new) adventure games that aren't too obtuse maybe. Thimbleweed Park also had a bit of a scary/creepy factor to it. Quite liked that.

I'm in a mood and can't seem to think of anything to satisfy it :face-with-stuck-out-tongue:

I've put an hour or so into Rain World and I'm finding the game incredibly fascinating so far.
I have no real idea what I'm doing or what I'm supposed to be doing - aside from exploring and, well, not being eaten, but that exploration is really really cool.

Subnautica. It's not technically horror, but it sure can be fucking scary.

Maybe Moons of Madness? (I haven't played it (yet), but I've heard it's more of a walking simulator, a creepy one)

Maybe also the Sunless Games - Sunless Sea and Sunless Skies.

We'll, you have the Call of Cthulhu games.
I rather like the "old" game, which is a mixture of adventure and FPS, with some RPG elements:

I haven't played the "new" game by Cyanide Studio, which is supposed to be an adventure game with some RPG elements as well:

Since you mentioned Firewatch, maybe The Suicide of Rachel Foster is something you'd like:

I was never able to figure that out but at least in Nier G there is a very good reason why Kaine is designed the way she is.

A majority of Nier A makes sense but there are some parts that did confuse me since they didn't make much sense, but you won't get to that until much later in the game. And 2B make be just the thing that you mentioned since I think Yoko Taro said it was more of less just that

Combat is fun.

How about DQVIII? The PS2 version does not have all of the content of the 3DS version and the same can be said about the PC version of DQXI.

If you play the game you should be able to beat it in under 60 hours or so

I looked into those Sunless games before but it seemed a bit too high maintenance, resourece management-y. Though Subnautica has some of that, but I have been quite interested in it, and it will be plenty scary since I have a do have an errational fear of most aquatic life. Moons of Madness also looks quite interesting. Thanks!

Ah, yeah, I've heard of the older Call of Cthulhu. But perhaps a little too on the survival side? Was actually quite interested in that new one but satisfied that by listening to a deep dive podcast about it. I'll have to look into The Suicide of Rachel Foster some more. Have seen it come up here and there. Thanks for the tips!

So I tried The Division Dark Zone, got more or less griefed for 15 minutes, then found a group and did a few things, then got mobbed by NPCs and lost everything.

I walked out of the DZ and pretty much don't plan to return. I assume that's on par for the course?

Don't forget, this weekend we have another edition of the LudoNarraCon on Steam.
Panels, demos, live streams with the developers, and discounts. It should be fun (the last edition was great)!

More details at:

Among the panels, we have people like Brian Moriarty (Loom, Beyond Zork, ...), Steve Meretzky (Sorcerer, Planetfall, A Mind Forever Voyaging, ...), Richard House III (The Sufferies series, The Church in the Darkness, ...), Sam Barlow (Her Story, Telling Lives, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, ...), and more.

Here is a list of the panels:

Tried 10 more times to beat Nioh's first boss Onryoki.
Best I got was down to 50% health.
I found the first boss to actually be the hardest in the game in hindsight, because at that point you're neither that familiar with the combat system and have not many tools to make your life easier at your disposal.
Your best bet is your living weapon mode when you think you can't go on anymore - it's Triangle + Circle (or Y + B) if your Amrita Gauge is full. It makes you invincible and deal more damage for some time (concrete effects depend on equipped guardian spirit).
And hope it's enough to deal with the last bits of his health, lol.

daxy I'll have a look through my library but what about SOMA. Not very resource managementy, VERY spooky and i think the devs made a "No Monsters" switch so you don't have to deal with the couple of them that are in the game.

The old Call of Cthulhu DCOE isn't resource management at all. It's a spooky FPS.

Regarding booze, i'll go for weeks without drinking anything but i have no problem with it or having a drink, i just don't feel like it very often. I do have some very nice Cognac and 5 bottles of swanky different Gins to try.

Oh, right! I actually have SOMA on GOG I think. Thanks for the reminder.
I'll have to look at some more gameplay of Call of Cthulhu then. Maybe it'll scratch that itch.

Related, I came across this game on Steam. Seems interesting and I'm way into its art direction:
