Time to pop back in here and be my usual mushy self. I might repeat a few things but I want to thank all of those who entered.

This past year has truly been amazing. There were some bumps here and there but overall it was one of the best years I've had in a long time. You all were the ones that made that possible. At first I wasn't sure I'd ever be able to fit in but that feeling quickly changed.

Again for those that might not be aware, before Meta the last time I was ever part of a forum was back in 2005 when the White Sox won the World Series. I've made the occasional post on the Giant Bomb forums as well but that's maybe 20 at most over 9 years when I still went by positivelypudding (hence my tag :face-with-stuck-out-tongue-and-winking-eye:).

So for many of you to be so welcoming and accepting of this goofy cat dude means so so much to me. As I said in the Steam thread, keep being awesome everyone! I'm looking forward to what the future brings! :photoblobheart:

Also one more quick thank you to Queen! Offering that code to add as a bonus was incredible. It was a true pleasure being able to team up for this giveaway. :highfiveblob:

Wondering if anyone would be interested in playing Phantasy Star Online on some private server ?
I don't know how you do it and if the game is still bearable, just a thought.

Oh I would totally be up for that! I love PSO. Though you're right that it would require some testing to see how difficult it is to get everything going and how playable it is these days.

Would love to as well but my timezone seems to make me invisible to everybody.
I'm sorry you feel that way. My intention has always been to try finding a time that works for everyone which is a difficult, if not impossible task.

We could move the event to the weekend and move the time forward but that would mean I wouldn't be able to participate since I work 7 days a week and usually until 3 or 4pm EST. Or we could move the time back but that makes it even harder for those in Europe and other nearby countries that are already staying up past midnight for our events.

I truly wish I could find a time so that you could be involved. I mean that. As I said in an earlier post you were one of the first on this forum to start playing with me and I greatly appreciate and value that. Our nightly co-op time together isn't going to end, I promise. And I'll keep trying to figure something out so you can join our events. :photoblobheart:

I'm announcing our May update a little early this time so that I can give a sneak peek at some of our upcoming changes. The visual changes are thanks to Francis W.M. and I cannot thank him enough for the amazing work he did. Stay tuned for a peek at those at the bottom of this post. I'm also going to consolidate a lot of the recommended section and try to put a little more focus on newly released or upcoming games.

Another thought I've had is that I would like to start a gallery for screenshots. I figure it would be a good way for us to capture some of the great moments from our events and be able to share those victories, funny moments or even just the crew together. Of course I would hope that for folks that take a lot of screenshots and love doing so that you would still share them in the screenshot thread or our Discord servers, this isn't meant to replace those. Given how quickly things can happen in co-op or competitive games it's not always easy to get the best shot so even if it's one you don't feel is amazing quality wise but captures something special then that's perfect! :thumbsupblob:

The other change I would like to implement is cutting our events back a little bit. I've talked it over with a couple folks and wanted to get everyone else's opinion as well. The move to every week was done in hopes of allowing more folks to be able to join in without having to worry that they had missed it and realize the next one wouldn't occur for a while. However it also created a problem for some that they felt obligated to be there for each and every one. Which was never the case obviously, but I do still understand that feeling.

So what I would like to propose is we cut it back to twice a month. The events would then be held on the first and third Friday of every month meaning this Friday (May 1) would be the start of the new event structure. It would hopefully ease that feeling of obligation to be there and would give folks a little more of a heads up so they can make arrangements if needed to be able to join in. I genuinely feel it would give our events that special feeling back instead of kind of feeling like just another Friday at times.

Which don't misunderstand me, I do still greatly enjoy our events and if more folks would like to stick with the every week structure we have now that's totally cool too! But I think in the long run it will be better for the events as a whole since it should allow some new and returning folks to join us more often. Plus this doesn't necessarily have to be a permanent change either. If down the line adding another week or going back to every week works better for folks then once again, awesome! :)

And finally, I know I usually share what games have been added to our various lists but I'll save that for when May is actually upon us as this has gotten rather long already. :face-with-stuck-out-tongue-and-winking-eye:

But as promised I will leave you with a quick peek at some of Francis W.M.'s incredible banners and headers.

Also yes, for those that might not have checked my Steam profile, I'm Nate. Hi! :peekwaveblob:

It was suggested that I should consider having my name shown in the header and to be proud of getting this started. Which I am, again I'm so so glad I got this going. I've made some amazing friendships that should last for a long time.. provided those folks can put up with my goofiness and awkwardness long term. How you all do it I'll never know but I guess you see something in this silly cat dude. Seriously thank you all!

However it was also decided that we should offer the option of one that says Meta in case folks weren't comfortable having someone's real name at the top of the thread and also because in the end this is truly a team effort. We're the Co-op Crew after all.

Most excellent idea. At worst, boring and inoffensive, at best a very funny addition. There are no downsides.

- Bi-Monthly Events
I would tend to agree on the reasoning, with the hope that those who want can have an unofficial event every other week (but I'm sure they would). I'm basically advocating for more flexibility, have my cake and eat it too. Hard rules for events are important, and softer ones too, if I make sense.

- Banner with or without The Cat Dude name
Annoying, I like the two sides of the argument. I prefer the blue one for the eyes, BUT I also think you totally earned your name on the banner and that it add a welcome touch of personality. So, in the good old way if Meta-Coop, like when we have to choose a game to play, I would say... I like them all ! :p
Still, a tend to prefer the Nate version.

-

BlindRhythm Did you have the opportunity to try 'Dragon Marked for nameistoolongpleasesaveme' ?

Thanks for your thoughts! I always appreciate them. :cat-heart-blob:

Your point about an unofficial event of sorts is a good one. If for example a certain Friday or even the weekend falls on a date that's important to someone, say a birthday or similar, and they want to celebrate that with some co-op then I would love to get something set up for that. Or even if someone is feeling a little down or alone and could use some cheering up, happy to do that too. Basically if folks ask me or show interest in starting an event even on our off week then I'll make sure to do everything I can to get it to happen.

For the banner stuff I'm really glad to hear that you like the Nate one! That means a lot. :blobhug:

You're right that it seems we've created that famous conundrum of ours where there's too many good options. Also as Francis said we've got versions of both with different color options so I'll probably rotate through the colors every few months or so.

And I haven't started up Dragon Marked For Death yet, but I'm going to play a little during my lunch break today so I should be able to give my feedback a little later. I'm excited to try it out.

Has anyone tried the demo of:

It seems like a fun co-op game. ;)
Yep! I tried the demo a few months ago when they first put it up on Steam. While it does require some coordination when it comes to moving bigger or heavier objects I wouldn't say it necessarily needs voice chat. The levels are pretty good size but also small enough that you shouldn't ever lose track of your teammates so as long as folks are observant it shouldn't be too bad.

Plus from what I remember the game is pretty good about showing you which objects need to be moved so folks could even make an agreement together ahead of time to focus on the bigger stuff first.

Also feel I should mention I already pre-ordered it because of course I did.

LIke most are aware, since I've got married I've been struggling to make it to our Friday night co-op events, since I usually end up having dinner late, me or my wife working very early Saturday morning, or my wife nags me to watch a film on Friday night (only to then fall asleep ).

Anyway, I'll probably won't be available this week either on Friday night (if if I will, it will be much later than usual), but during the weekend, if anyone wants to try Streets of Rage 4 online (after I finish it in SP) I'm more than up to it. ;)

Also, BlindRhythm, I'm hoping we might squeeze in a couple of missions of Dragon Marked For Death, so I can see your character in action, and you can see my bunny hopping, shuriken throwing madman. :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

I saw that I missed Dragon Marked discount, is the bonus content closed too ? Not that annoyed, but hey, it screams Meta Co-op, so a bit of second thoughts.

I would like that! I've gotten a better hang of the witch since we last talked about it and can mash out the heal spell rather quickly now. The downside to it is that at least currently it only affects those right next to me and a very mobile shinobi might make that tricky. :face-with-stuck-out-tongue-and-winking-eye:

I'd also be up for some SoR4 at some point. I forgot it was coming so soon.

I can also report back on the state of co-op for folks interested. I played a little with MonthOLDpickle last night and even with him being in Taiwan and me in the Midwest US there was no latency issues whatsoever.

Now I don't know if adding more folks into the mix from other countries will muddy that a little bit but it was certainly some good news. :smiling-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Glad to hear it.
As I progress in the game, my Shinobi is turning into a mean, lean. killing machine. :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:
The damage I deal has grown a lot, my health went from the starting 60/70, to around 400. Yeah, I'm liking it, a lot. :)

It looks kind of fun, and it has been receiving positive reviews.
I actually had no idea that had co-op! That's fantastic news!

I had seen a few screenshots and most seemed to be from the PvP stuff. Which is cool too but due to getting back into Hunt Showdown and Rocket League with Echoes I wasn't in the market for a new competitive game quite yet since those two have been a blast with him. :highfiveblob:

Plus I'm sure Naroh and I will be defending our crown in Apex again in the near future.

But as I mentioned last year with that Obsidian game Grounded, I love small characters in a big world and playing as action figures makes that idea even cooler so I probably would have broken down and picked it up at some point and discovering that co-op defense stuff I'm in! What can I say.. I'm weak.

Next week I might finally get my internet connection! The thing I look forward the most is to try out some multiplayer!:D
Yay! I'm so happy for you! :blobcheer:

Looking forward to chatting with you about some multiplayer stuff.

If and when you're ready I hope you'll join us for some of our community events too. I mentioned previously that folks are always patient and helpful and we try to play a wide variety of games so even if a certain game or genre isn't your thing we have plenty of options.

But of course as I said, only when you feel up to it. There's no need to rush into it. We're not going anywhere. :smiling-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Oh gods! We've been stickied! What sorcery is this?! :face-screaming-in-fear:

I figure this will make it easier for folks to find a buddy or two if they need some help or simply want some company. With some recent releases drawing some interest in co-op and most folks being home due to the pandemic, having our thread be a little more visible and readily available should hopefully help. :thumbsupblob:

As I said during our last session, we should play more board games !
And lo and behold, there is a boardgame bundle :face-with-stuck-out-tongue-and-winking-eye:

But it's... complicated. Firstly while good to very good, the bundle is not perfect (duh) and playing boardgames on the internet is cool but you seriously have to take the game length into consideration. In said bundle you have games ranging from 15 minutes to multiple hours. And lastly another thing, Asmodee is one of the current BG giant, and they launch a lot of digital boardgames, but sadly many of the adaptations leave a lot to be desired (bugs, bugs, maybe you also want another helping of bugs ?)
I would be kinda glad if you don't fuck up Blood Rage, thanks you Asmodee.

About Blood Rage, I will possibly be alone in this but I really appreciate this trend of having real life looking pieces in the game. It was hot in years past to gamify your adaptation, thinking faithful boardgame adaptation too dry lookin, but imho I play digital bg as bg replacement, I don't want to muddy the boardgamey nature of it.
...if I make sense :sweaty-blob:

Didnt know which MP game to go for, so I became an old man and screamed at all the new fancy games to get of my lawn and installed Battlefield 4 haha, at least it runs buttery smooth!
BF4 is a pretty good choice. One of my favorites of the recent BF games and still has a pretty sizeable player base. Glad to hear it runs smooth for you, that's great news! :)

I have too much free time and am brainstorming a Digital Bordgame Thread. Send halp.
I'm so happy you decided to make it! :blobhug:

A quick reminder for everyone that might have missed it in the OP, this Friday will be our next event. And again even if you're new to the events or haven't taken part in one in a while that's totally okay! Folks are always welcome whenever they feel up to it. :smiling-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Also I'll make sure to update the OP on Saturday with the date for the next event so make sure to check back!
