I like how Portia constantly tells me that I'm not doing enough, by giving tasks I can't complete yet
keep working, you slacker!
how about no, game, I live to slack! :smart-thinking-blob:

I'm also really really poor, need money, a lot of money, send help

Sorry for using this thread for an off topic question, but what's the best Havest Moon (or spin-offs like Rune Factory) games?

I've been wanting to try the original games after hearing so much about them.

MegaApple , if you wanna try, you might as well play Stardew Valley, it's the best Harvest Moon game and it is a great game on its own.
As for Rune Factory games, there isn't anything quite like Rune Factory, Portia is probably closest we got and it's still not Rune Factory.
Keep in mind that these aren't short games though

Actually I was looking something to emulate, hence the question

ah, I thought it's worded in a strange way

IDK, is RF4 possible to emulate? I'm very out of touch with emu scene these days, if it is, I'd go for that. I'd still take Stardew Valley over any older HM game, though.

Still working on the starter quests. Got the grinder and civil cutter, now just gotta build that bridge. The game doesn't seem to give you much money, at least not the first board quest I did :p

I hope I can increase the house size. It's also a pretty neat looking game. Although lighting is strange during night time.

Started playing a bit and it seems to be a really enjoyable game.

However, the game also feels somewhat unpolished, especially with regards to controller support. I'm playing with a Steam Controller, and half the time the tutorial popups for controls don't go away unless I use the corresponding keyboard key, and in other cases the button shown doesn't even perform the described action. I might give it another month or two before really diving in, since it seems to have left EA a bit too early.

Unfortunately 3DS emulation is still wonky.
Anything till PS1 or DS (if handheld)?

MegaApple . you don't really want to play old HM games, trust me on this, well if you want to hate a whole genre, you can I guess. HM (first game) was on SNES and had GB port as far as I can remember, Back to Nature is on PS.

you can emulate any RF on DS, if you wish, RF3 or even RF2

I'm pretty sure that's not what unpolished means, kb/mouse controls are fine, everything works as should too. Controllers don't matter, obviously.

playing games is for nerds ... we just collect them!
Seriously I get more excited about buying stuff on sales than playing them nowadays. I was hyped for the various winter sales and so far I've played none of them yet lol.

Derrick playing a game that's not AAA? Madness!
I play lots of stuff in general. I started dead cells today (finally).

This is fast becoming me. 100 games installed right now, play... 3 or 4 of them. This game being the main attention suck right now.

I will say, I've had to turn the music off and put on some Spotify Dvořák today though. That one song just... digs in your head after a while and I needed something else to be the soundtrack to my endless gathering fest.

I'd also suggest to anyone looking to get a little more done day to day to turn the game speed all the way down to 50. I feel a bit less pressed for time each in game day that way.

It seems that I'll have to create more furnaces, but I'm already running out of space.
Maybe I should sell something and buy some land upgrades... although the first one was a ridicolous small upgrade and I fear the second one will be as well...

yeah, I had to buy first land offer already, I ran out of space and there was no choice.

I also feel like I'm doing real bad in Portia, my workshop is still only no3, there is just too much stuff to do, I say to myself that I will concentrate on one thing and will finish it, but then I get some tasks that require me doing different things and I end up never finishing what I started, but starting yet another thing.

and I still haven't found a way to make money I need, making those stone stools is not effective, considering how cheap they are.

It also could be that I screwed one story part, which had to happen on nearest weekend, but I had martial arts tourney that weekend, and that event never occurred. I hope I can have it still, don't feel like starting over.

Same here, there are too many distractions!
I haven't checked my workshop standing, I'm trying to make everything they ask, but most of the items requested need those damn Bronze Bars/Pipes/Plates that takes forever to make :sweaty-blob:

I tried to concentrate on mining first, so I went into the mines for a few days and didn't have to worry about it for a while, And I usually destroy every tree near me before going to bed, just to operate those damn furnaces and create those bronze bars :face-with-open-mouth-and-cold-sweat:

Been busy so i haven't had a chance to submit a crash report but i still can't play this game for longer than 20 minutes if at all. I had a chance to try the game after the patches the other day and it was crash city all over the shop. Going to submit a report to Team 17 on Thursday if i can and then drop the game for a few weeks until i see a major patch release.

The only thing left is to unplug my Vive kit but if that doesn't work then i'm buggered. Super Sad Panda :(

have you tried lowering settings? I understood that this game as all unity games can't be played all day long due to memory leak (it is a tad better than usual unity games though), sooner or later it crashes, not saying that insufficient ram is your problem, but worth trying

I've tried but the damn thing has crashed on the settings screen lol! I had some luck playing in a windows, at a lower res with lowered shadows but that only lasted 20 minutes and crashed. I wouldn't mind if i could save but it's like Groundhog Day over here as i keep doing the same day over-and-over and it's starting to do my nut in :)

If the crashes were consistent then i could troubleshoot more but they occur randomly and the only thing left is to look for mobo & gtx firmware updates as everything else has been fiddled with. My specs should be ample for this game given people are predominantly running it on laptops it seems.

I have an AMD Ryzen 7 2700X, 32Gb of Ram and an 8Gb GTX 1070 and my Steam Folders are on SSDs. By Grabthar's Hammer I should be okay... but i'm not :(

I'll get my crash reports uploaded to support as soon as i can but Landlord and House things take priority this week unfortunately.

I did try it, but setting the speed back to 100 didn't change it back for me :expressionless-face:
Tonight I'll try to set it back to 100 in the menu, instead of in game, I hope this will fix it.

Anyway, it's really nice when you're traveling and don't want to waste the entire day just reaching a place. And it's also useful early in the morning, as you can check the materials produced during the night and you still have time to reach the guild by 8h00 and decide which commission to pick, before Higgins arrives.
And I'm not sure if this is connected, but I couldn't even keep a stable 60 FPS last night, there was even some noticeable lag... weird. But I'll try again tonight and see if changing the setting from the menu fixes the problems.

Nope, only that they fixed the airship gift drop increase due to it. That had to be silly looking, wonder if it was a lot more or just a few more or what.

It doesn't feel grindy for some time, later it more depends on what you do with your time, the faster you want to advance the more you have to do every day, obviously. You can't actually grind, as in stay in one place and do the same activity until you have enough materials for weeks, it doesn't work this way in Portia, firstly you need wide range of materials that are obtained in different ways and because you never have enough, aside of sand and stone, you do rounds as you can and when you absolutely need to and that is more or less always.
If we talk money, it is a hell of a grind, to make any kind of money, at least until mid game, but as you can make money taking commissions that you need to for your rank and bonuses and story related, and there is no time to grind, you don't.
For example I want to go fishing, but I can't, no time for it and it's not necessary resource, just like in rl.

I can't say anything about past midgame though, I'm not there yet.

in short, Portia is not a fast game too, at times it feels like I'm barely making any progress, but I am, just slowly.

Turning the speed down to 50 and then back up to 100 seems to work for me after the patch, but I have to say that I prefer playing with the speed down to 50.
It's nice to have enough time to check the furnaces in the morning before going to check at the commissions.

I also finally finished the Tree Farm quests, I'll try to update it asap so I won't have to worry about fetching wood again. The questline wasn't bugged for me before the patch, but I couldn't get in the farm to start another quest with one of the short dudes. After the patch I was able to enter even before finishing the questline.

I've bought the trees from the Church of Light (1 of each type) and they're really taking a loooong time to grow. I hope they're worh it.

I'm now at the second bridge part and it requires a lot of resources. I should have built more furnaces and stockpiled the Carbon Steel Bars :sweaty-blob:

50% speed is the best upgrade possible they could have offered, true.

my Tree farm quest was seemingly bugged after the patch, but it randomly triggered day before yesterday at last, so I did some tasks, and now I have those that require insane amount of resources I have 0 of, so it'll take time to finish it

I need trees, apple in particular, but I don't want to support that church and its practices. I'll have to at some point, I still don't have that many disks to throw around.

I'm still shocked how much work is to make friends in Portia, granted some bonuses are nice, but jeebus this will take ages!

In other news: proof that Portia is not on Earth:

I was so happy to finally see a status change! I'm now "associate" with a grand total of 6 people. None of them useful of course, because the people I need at a higher level for those sweet bonuses never post commissions that I can actually fulfil in a day :anguished-face:

It seems you get points with other related npcs too when your status change, so I guess it might become quicker as you progress, but who knows, still a lot of boxes to go.

Yeah I'd say 50% is about right for me, gives me more time to run around turning in quests and checking furnaces, only thing I worry about is the game crashing losing all that progress :p It's only crashed once for me so far at the beginning of the day.

I did notice that the bonuses don't stack after a while, at least those for stamina, as I had a lot of those sofas as well, but after I think 3 they didn't gave me bonuses anymore :confused-face:
Not sure if there's a different treshold for health bonuses, as I don't have enough items for that. I do have various items with +attack, but I'm not sure how to check those...

Anyway, I'll try to make some photos of my home and garden tonight :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Is riding a lama faster than going on foot? I did the quest for McDonald and saw that he has some horses now, but I haven't really explored that part of the game yet.

yes, mounts make traveling on foot faster, they also require a bit of maintenance, so that gained speed comes with the cost, of course. I'm still discovering things with mounts.

all bonus to stats from inhouse stuff stacks until it fills house's capacity, said capacity can be increased by building higher level house, you can check that capacity at the house sheet near the door, stamina and hp fills faster, my both are way over capacity, attack is not even close, there aren't that many items with attack bonus and bonuses they give are low. Once you reached your house level limit for the bonus, no matter what you add it doesn't affect your stats anymore until you raise your house level, which needless to say is hella expensive.
