Ni no Kuni also comes to mind for me. The Japanese version didn't feel nearly as good and alive as the English dub. Furthermore, I would argue that typical Japanese VAs have a style that is starting to be a little tired for me. It's always the same thing and I cherish the few movies where they actually talk like people.

I do recall Miyazaki making that same point in The Wind Rises when he went to Anno. That or he was bullshitting to get his old protege to VA for him :p.

I still haven't bought Satisfactory.
As the week went by my spider sense kept tingling and I came to the conclusion that I had to wait and see what this insane week had to offer before splurging. For the sake of my wallet :anguished-face:

I feel like to some extent NNK supports my point, since that's another game which doesn't really have a particularly Japanese setting or very Japanese character writing, for the most part.

Too bad about the actual game :/

Miyazaki doesn't like anything otaku and unsurprisingly has a negative view of a seiyuu industry as a byproduct of that hyper-animeish culture. He also doesn't like animators who only draw things from the anime. However, Anno delivered one of the most stiff performances I've heard in anime, not sure it was the best decision.

I don't think seiyuus are that limited, just look at Yakuza games and compare them with some harem anime. The problem is, the product itself is much more homogenised these days.

I think I was wrong to say that Seiyuus were limited, you are right. It's mostly that the style asked of them is really narrow and samey most of the time. Miyazaki influenced my thoughts there, sorry! It's refreshing to see some productions where the Seiyuus just go wild and I'd argue that this is why shows like Konosuba and Love is War are so successful. They feel less wooden and more natural.

As for Miyazaki, in my eyes he is an abuser and has the kind of personality and fame that causes widespread harm to those around him, I certainly don't venerate him. As far as movies go though, I think he's kind of right to look at them objectively.

I think Anno's performance was refreshing, but not exactly insanely good. He's not a professional and it shows. Anyway, I guess my reformulated point is that when Japanese VAs aren't forced into the same old peghole, they shine as the talented pros they are. But the anime style really got old for me long ago.

Lots of reports going around that Sony is moneyhatting timed exclusives left and right. PC seems largely unaffected (thanksfully) even if Epic does it for the PC versions. Still mad Kena and Jett are Epic timed exclusives, liked what I saw of those games.

Still, fuck off with that shit. Xbox console gamers should also be able to play the games day 1.

Fucking hate moneyhatted timed exclusives. It's a giant shitstain on the games industry. I understand it more if smaller indie devs take them even if I don't like it, but bigger studios? Fuck off.

I mean given the amount of "PC/PS5" announcements that seems quite likely.

There really isn't any reason to release a game with any decent budget (which all of these are) on PS5 and PC but not XSX other than some external incentive (i.e. either straight cash or significant co-marketing in return for timed exclusivity).

BTW, my name is Kyougar and I am an idiot.

For months I have thought about getting back into FF14 but didn't want to pay 40€ for the expansion. I was checking the shop page today and saw that I have the expansion, checking my purchase history, I had bought it on the Winter Sale half a year ago for 60% off...

All in, we showed about 13 titles that are launching exclusively on PlayStation 5. And those exclusive arrangements range from a few months to a couple of years. You saw some great titles: Godfall from Gearbox, Death Loop from Bethesda, Project Athia from Square Enix…

There has been some talk from people who could know who had heard that P4G might not be the only thing Atlus has on the PC show. Not P3 mind you, but other things. I guess we'll see soon enough.

Also I play all my japanese games with the english dub when possible. :blobevening:

I played Sekiro in english too. :longswordblob2:

More success story like this will only justify EGS exclusive, won't it?

There seems to be no more backlash to the devs unlike the early days either. So most of them will definitely seal the deal with Epic given the chance. Because on top of exclusivity cash, they will still find a success on Steam later.

Game is a ton of fun and addicting.

Lovely to have both Factorio and Satisfactory available on the same platform.

And if the game sold bad on Steam?

"So the game hasn't done as well as we hoped on Steam, which is sad, but it also somewhat shows that our deal with Epic was a good thing, it was security for us if the game didn't do well on Steam, which it didn't".

I don't want to go too off-topic, there was enough of that yesterday and sorry about that. Just to answer the question : it's hard to put into words. He's insanely harsh, verbally abusive with people and working at Ghibli under him has a reputation for being insanely good experience, but also a place where you get the hell out of as soon as you can. He seems to me like he has long ago crossed the line between criticism of the art and abuse of the artist.

The things caught on camera were bad enough, I shudder to think what he told animators privately.

So today I will do something I never thought I would do.

I will uninstall P4G from my Vita.

Only unfinished Vita games left that is not on other platforms are Soul Sacrifice, Muramasa Rebirth and Oreshika, Disgaea 3 and 4.

But how long will Epic's coffers remain open? Epic isn't some charity for greedy devs/pubs to have your cake and eat it too.
And for many devs they will only have one chance, their game isn't good enough or matter enough to have a "real" launch on Steam a year later and be a success story.

I'm not sure that the coffers won't ever close. I would rather see the practice of exclusive become toxic to brands, hence the longest boycott possible. Whatever they might decide to tell themselves and others publicly about the moneyhat being wise in retrospect, I'm pretty sure they would know exactly what happened.

As others pointed out on the threads, there are points to be made both for and against buying the game on Steam. I lean more in the direction of making developers think twice about Exclusivity and being reasonably vocal about it so they know where the low sales are coming from but I can see the perspective of tremendous reception on Steam making their time on EGS deafeningly silent by comparison.

It might make them wonder. "What if we hadn't waited a year, when the game was really new? How many sales did we loose to people loosing interest?"

I am with you. I have boycotted every EGS exclusive that was. Including games I would have really liked to play, like Satisfactory and Outer Worlds. I just don't like the narrative about Exclusives are inevitable in the future because they are working financially (for a select few devs). they are working financially because some idiot has more money than economic sense.

I was little bitter at first seeing bad practice being rewarded but I've changed my mind! I think it is great that the Steam userbase is super vocal about shitty things being done in the industry but are also inclusive, and forgiving, generally a happy bunch when the game finally comes to Steam. That will hopefully make the devs reconsider next time, because they know just how good they were taken care of after one time but another betrayal is completely done with purpose and shitting on a loving fanbase.

I don't want to ruin it for you, but I can imagine a scenario where there is a surprise drop on PC today and another drop of the same game later in 2020.
Don't you dare jinx it! I will hold you personally responsible in that case!

Are you talking about the convo that started on a legitimately video game topic and logically drifted away ? Posted on a thread where everything but Steam is discussed on a daily basis ?
Fuck yeah, you should apologize for that one :anguished-face:

Very fair criticism. I was more on the grumpy old man image, but the picture you paint is... scarily probable.
