My PC just shut itself down in the middle of a game and now it doesn't recognize my GPU anymore

I hope the magical trick of plugging it out and back in will solve this
its probably dead, I had something similar happen to me back in October, the card died and considering the problems I had at the moment I really wanted to end my life considering how dire things were...

It did not work

But i notice it shows up as unknown device in the device manager 🤔

I agree. The GPU probably overheated, it is summer after all. Was there any smell of burnt plastic?
Aren't most modern GPU's equipped to prevent overheating?

Hektor

Is there video coming out of the old warrior? Or have you retreated onboard? (retreating to onboard is what I refer to as 'the graphical liferaft')

If you want to customize your profile, the new system is a huge progress. No more gambling!
I was thinking this was the reason why they maybe extended the points shop to all the card\badge rewards, because Apple is getting sued because of gambling laws in California likely extending to microtransaction lootboxes for mobile games and issues in The Netherlands, South Korea and other countries becoming more of an issue?

Nope, using onboard gpu rn
Oof. Liferaft is not the place to be.

Couple of quick ideas

1) The 'unidentified device' check if the Hardware IDs match up with Nvidia as the vendor and that is shows up as a PCI device
2) Move card to another PCIe slot
3) Test back up GPU in slot

The other ideas, like safe mode or driver reinstall, probably won't work unless windows has an idea of where the device is and who made it.

Have you uninstalled the drivers?
Uninstalled them, whenever i try to reinstall i get the message that it cant find a compatible device

Yea turns out the GPU isn't the unknown device but some useless intel technology

you wot mate
That card still remembers the historic 3.5 GB VRAM scandal, it has seen games like Batman Arkham Knight destroy PCs, witnessed the release of Witcher 3 and its use of GameWorks effects.
It came out in 2014, that's almost 50 years in GPU years. I don't want to lessen your grief. It's important that you give yourself some time with this, maybe take a week off, spend some time with your family and loves ones.
But ultimately I think you should just accept that your GPU has had a long and plentiful life, and try to move on. That's what your 970 would have wanted, too.

Hektor Hmmm, if you say it's an Intel device not recognised i'd try to reinstall your motherboard drivers in the hope that it helps.
Do you have another GPU you can try? If that works when in the same slot then i'd say the 970 has shuffled of it's whining mortal coils.
Or do you have another PC you could throw it into to check? Even if it's old.

F in chat.

Assuming my 970 truly has passed what's its contemporary equivalent that's CP77 ready?
I mean, the bright side here is that i was wanting to upgrade close to 21 anyways

Fun fact, my last two major upgrades were for The Witcher 2 and 3

I replaced my 960 with a 1660 Super back in January and I've been pretty happy with it. Finally playing Witcher 3 and running it maxed out at 60fps was a wonderful experience. I got it mostly for Cyberpunk but it was so fucking poorly timed. They announced the first delay literally the week after I got it lmao.

If you want ray-tracing, you may be better off waiting for Ampere, though.

Looks like Ubisoft owns the gaming IP rights of "The Sum of all Fears" on perpetuity, including the likeness of Ben Affleck and Morgan Freeman :smart-thinking-blob:

I must have some kind of condition because I can't buy anything unless it's at an historic low price, which is being especially problematic in this sale.
Looking through my wishlist and randomly through the store it's incredible how many games retracted on their sales compared to the winter sale last year or some random sales this year. Why do they do this? If your game was 50% off before why are you just reducing it by 30% now? Surelly you'd get more sales at 50%, people enjoy a good sale and aren't stupid to the point they won't notice your proposition now is less interesting than it was 6 months or even a couple weeks ago.

/rant

That being said, this will probably be my basket to take advantage of the 5€ off. Anything that I should avoid?

Thanks!
I used 2x Multistrike upgrades and one of the Slay: Gain armor upgrades.

I generally think that the Slay: Gain attack upgrade is the strongest, since you don't have to rely on Rage with it. I wasn't offered it that run though, so I had to make do. Thankfully I was up against Seraph the Temperament, not the Chaste.
I have just discovered the horror of coveneant 10
And now know why umbra is a good option
