Vice versa in my opinion.
There was a time when coolers exerted 30kg+ of pressure on the IHS. But I must admit that I've not looked at datasheets for a long time now. Size also plays a vital role but let's not make this too complicated. A 30kg weight would be able to squeeze out a tube of toothpaste. The same should happen to thermal paste in-between the IHS and Cooler. What's left is what's needed to fill the irregularities.
If you overdo it, you'll end up with a mess around the socket. Why the "don't use too much" sentiment formed.

I wish Steam had privacy settings for each individual category. Like Wishlist, Library, In-Game Status instead of combining them all under 'Game Details'.
