Just finished The Touryst. Fun and charming little game, though some of the minigames and the platforming puzzles can be pretty frustrating, the latter especially due to the difficulty of gauging depth from an isometric perspective. still, it's very pretty, fun, and doesn't overstay its welcome

I tried the first one when it launched, but gave up and refunded. I found it completely impenetrable. Any chance the new one has a good tutorial? I have a bad tendency of buying complex games, then giving up when I can't just jump in and start doing things.
Yes, the opening Contracts are tutorialized. They help get you up and running.

Side note: It took me forever to realize that clicking that "compass" icon on the top-right of the Contract sheet centers the map on the fulfillment location. My dumb-ass was typing the town name into the Search Bar (ctrl + f) every damn time, lol.

There's also a handy-dandy Demo that's LONG. After 5 hours of gameplay with no end in sight, I simply stopped and asked myself what the hell I was doing and why wasn't I purchasing the game proper yet, lol. Someone on the forum said they played it for 20 hours. :p

With the opening Contracts won't be able to knock them all out in order as some are more demanding than other and require map exploration to unlock new resources to fulfill the needs. Just keep exploring the map and you'll unlock additional Contracts that you can peruse in any order. But even if you immediately see that you can't yet fulfill a new Contract, be sure to read the info box on it anyway as it provides valuable tips on gameplay and menu UI elements.

Couple of big Ah-ha moments for me were,

1. Realizing that you deliver products in reverse. So when you see a town with a resource you've unlocked you click and drag the resource icon from that down over to the resource node (all applicable resource nodes will highlight with a blue circle when you drag the resource icon out of the town info box in the top right. Seems counter-intuitive, but it works well. That way you're not randomly clicking around on the map to find that specific resource to fulfill the need.

1.a On clicking and dragging resources out of the top-right town/business/industry box (or conversely your vehicle to move it great distances). I use the mouse wheel to zoom in & out of the map, but this makes scouting a specific location (looking for resources) difficult when holding the LMB. I've learned that using keyboard assignments (x to zoom out, z or c to zoom in) in conjunction with holding the LMB far easier to drag and drop resource requests. You can also use WASD for camera panning in this mode vs. typical edge-scroll.

2. After doing the first few Contracts for basic controls, focus on uncovering the map. It will reveal new resource nodes. You only discover new raw materials by traveling on roads and getting in close proximity to them. You'll get a New Cargo popup telling you what you discovered in the top-center of the screen. You can see how far you've traveled by picking up your vehicle and dragging it to a road terminus. It will be highlighted by an empty red circle. Drag and drop there and a new area of the map will unlock. Sometimes you'll encounter Roadblocks (Roadworks) that require a specific resource to unblock it (say, Gravel or Sand). As before, drag that Gravel or Sand icon out of the box and look for a resource node (blue circle) to create a transport loop to deliver the goods and unblock the road. This should be a priority as unblocking roads gives you access to new map areas and new possible resource discoveries. Focus on uncovering as much of the regional map as you can at first. You won't be able to do it all in one shot, but it goes a long way in unlocking multiple resource unit types to setup transportation networks in the opening area.

3. Then look for easy resource requests in your starting area. These are towns & businesses only looking for 1 or 2 types of resources. Once you've delivered the amount of unit types (might take a couple/few trips), the town icon on the map will turn yellow, as will the locations pop-up box in the top right. This means you're done with that location and can move on to other nodes on the map.

The dev (who's super active on both the Steam forum and Discord, posted a quick-start guide as well.

Happy transporting (nerd!).

tl;dr - there's a demo

That would be great! I haven't been able to progress past Covenant 2 -- the final boss always gets me, even if I've been melting previous levels. I'm probably doing something fundamentally wrong with my left/right paths and card picks, but I don't know what it is.
Here are some quick tips
1. Got Alpha Fiend? Give it double strike at least and either have it frontline or at the back while a unit tanks for it.
2. Wanna wreck shit with Stygian Guard? Learn to Love incant; Stygian champ with Spells costing -1 ember and AT LEAST 2 encat buffing units will turn you into a killer floor. Focusing on Multi strike for some champs helps but don't get too lost in focusing on getting it ;3
3. Sweep is OP at least with the green units, spikes are effective too long as you got a good supply of heals. Combo green as ally clan and Stygian as main and you can have an easier time dealing with enemies. Also Incant 1 armor is a good equipment to have seeing as you cast spells on yourself using such a strategy.

EDIT: Just to add, if you have a unit that costs 2 ember, make your first upgrade +1 ember per turn, will make battles later much more managable.

This month I'm getting Control, for sure.
Have they revealed a price on Steam yet?

I tried out some Hollow Knight yesterday, glad I read on how the mapping works before starting.
Not quite sure what I think about it yet even though it certainly looks beautiful!
In my opinion the mapping system in HK is ok and worked pretty well. After some hours in the game I started recognizing the rooms and the and I didn't need to open the map all the time.

How is Fall Guys? It looks fun and I may get it once I'm paid.

Fall Guys is really fun for a couple of hours every other day as it is not exactly deep. Better with friends.

I'm still not hot on GamePass at all. To begin with it's a sub, meaning the day you stop you loose everything. Then there's the delivery method which is encrypted UWP, meaning no user control or tinkering at all. Pirating would get you more mileage out of the same game. Finally, the fact that the software is really, really unpleasant.

The way they artificially raise prices to push people toward GP is pretty galling when you are someone who wants nothing to do with it.

Here ya go, a run I completed on Cov 2 using Stygian Guard and Green combo
Code:
monstertrain://runresult/49291440-2bd3-4c45-af21-749122fff421
One thing I should mention; get rid of Train Stewards through the portals or shops, they become obsolete as early as the 2nd battle once you get a new unit. If during a battle you draw a Train steward ALWAYS place it on any floor; this makes it so the game does not draw it again in a later turn and instead draws a more effective card for you should you need it.

Wow, you had some great cards. I noticed you mostly focused on upgrading units instead of spells -- is that because you got the Seraph that consumes spells? I think one of the reasons I'm failing is not paying much attention to upcoming debuffs.

I just won a Covenant 3 run with Hellhorned and Stygian, mostly focusing on Rage. It was still pretty close, even after getting some great artifacts. Going to try your combo for Covenant 4 now. :longswordblob:

Shamelessly stolen from reddit

That appeals to me more than it has any right to :). More than their regional pricing and 60$ > 70€ conversion anyway.
Looking at that I get the same feeling I get when I attempt to play 4X titles:

But ooooh do I want to try this for some reason.

Microsoft is still going to shit the bed in some part of their ongoing pc plans, but i'll take the shitty sheets they have now vs what it's been since GF. Pricey option outsdie their own environment > stuck with only their environment. They go to gog and they'll have fresh sheets and a new racecar bed to stick with my weird analogy

I just spent $300+ USD getting that, the Mario Starter set and the Fire Flower suit.

I expect them to ship out in the next 2 weeks

I really don't give a shit about the Mario themed lego sets. However this NES one looks awesome and will make a nice shelf thing to look at.
I actually think the Super Mario legos look actively bad. Like that Mario they made is a nightmare. They should have just made a normal Lego minifig Mario, that might be awesome. But alas.

Nope, I was just greedy for Multi strike and Incant +1 armor :v Here's an additional tip for magic spells
If a spell can damage ALL enemies in a floor but its base damage is X or 2; give it holdover+10 magic power. Boom, all those weak 10 HP enemies get wasted every, freakin'. turn

Holdover is effective for spells that you know you can re use turn after turn such as regen or damaging all enemy units, while frozen is good for a spell you want to use in case of an emergency.

Also congrats, but Rage is finnicky; the 'rage 3 on slay' red demon is rather ineffective due to him having low base HP and that he HAS to slay an enemy unit else his buff is useless.

They wanted to make it a but more unique so it makes sense as to why it's big and why it makes noises.

I'm guessing the issue with a Mario themed set, is what to make the set about.

Yeah, it's a fun little game. You could probably beat it in about 4-5 hrs. I 100%'d it in 7. The platforming issues were pretty funny, especially when the background was pitch black and you couldn't tell where you were in relation to the platforms.

Mivey i heard you don't like thread tags :p
Lol, first I'm really noticing the ones on Meta. It helps that it's just white on black, it doesn't "pop" into your eyes at all. Some other board uses them in a pretty dumb way, drawing your eyes far more than the actual title.
I feel like having a way to actually use the tags for search or filter would be neat, though.

Man, Logistical 3 is just so damn good.

But it's also so damn baroque that it's like telling someone how incredible Dwarf Fortress is only to be met with blank stares.

It truly is the Dark Souls of logistics-management sims.

...................

It's funny though. Being into hyper-indies above & beyond all else feels like both a blessing and a curse.

You get to enjoy all that smug, hipster street-cred, but at the same time you often feel like your sitting at a table set for one. :p

(A week later I'm still waiting for ONE YouTube vid featuring the game. Something. Anything. Le sigh.)

I feel your pain. Without a youtube series I will never buy this game. If it knocks my socks off, I would even buy full price.
This would be a game I would try Gamepass for. But this type of game will never appear on gamepass.

Microsoft should have shown Flight Simulator instead of Halo Infinite and everybody would have been happy.

Game seems to be amazing. it offers "to do lists" for beginners visualizing what needs to be done after Take Off, before landing, etc. It even directs players and marks switches in the cockpit, if they so wish.

I'm quiet excited for the game and if it sells well. Maybe we'll see a flight simulation renaissance and get JSF, Comanche spiritual successors.

Why does, upon a F5, the site insists on putting me back to some old post on the page ? Can I change that behavior ?
It lightly drives me up the walls.

Not the only site that does that, so it must be a Firefox thing ?

Along with space-sim that has been my dream for the past decade and a half. DCS is nice but at the end of day, it's LOMAC with all it's old flaws.

Give me Falcon 5 with dynamic campaigns and incredibly detailed avionics and radar. And more of Jane's stuff that isn't as hardcore, helping entice people into the genre as I once was through F-15. We are all big kids who want to do looping in big toys :).

I wish there was an I-War sequel too. 2 was incredible, it is a terrible shame such an open and living world, so wide in scale with a narrative hasn't been made again yet.
