Finally had enough and requested my ERA account to be deleted. I haven't actually posted in forever and I clearly lack the self-control to stop going there so it's probably for the best lol.

I can't even remember the last time I went into a thread and actually had a good time. If I'm in a good mood I'll just get annoyed and if I'm not doing great I'll actually get irritated. I'm probably focusing on the negative more than I should but it seems like such a trash community these days.

Gonna have to find a new place where I can get all my gaming news aggregated, though. That was the one thing still good about it. I just can't be bothered to start reading gaming news sites again.

I still can't get over the weird glitch respawn animation they chose in the Tony Hawk games, just looks bad.
I think it looks fantastic. It gives the impression of a glitch in a skate video, and reduces time lost waiting for the recovery animation to play out.

My account is still on self-ban, and I've been thinking about account deletion too after that Asian meeting fuckery.

For PC gaming news, I'd go with Reddit. It has all the PC news you need except the awful takes and reaction threads that constantly clutter the first page of Era.

Yeah, I guess that's probably my best bet, along with Gematsu for Japanese gaming news. But subreddits tend to have a specific focus. What's convenient about ERA is that it's so large and diverse that virtually everything ends up getting posted, no matter how niche. On reddit, stuff can easily get buried.

And for reddit to be useful for gaming news, I'd need to do some serious cleanup on my account (or make a brand new one, I guess) because there's years of random subs on it, making my feed a complete mess and a fairly NSFW one at that lol.

Craftopia is hella fun with friends. Too bad you have to use Hamachi.

I still have account there for the day when more Sony's exclusives come to PC. The meltdown will be glorious.

/r/Games has been my go-to for 5 years. They have their biases and scepticism is appreciated there (almost too much at times, some don't like that), but when it comes to straight news, it's good.

/r/PCGaming is a massive clusterfuck in my experience. The posts, the comments, some people deliberately try to be a prick.

/r/patientgamers and /r/rpg_gamers are also two nice subreddits.

I made an ERA account this year.

It is quite hard to find a good thread, but I think there are few enthusiasts that make great stuff on retro games and history. Modern game threads are... questionable.

Aw fuck, I should have waited! Bloodborne Port Day will be something truly special lol.

I've been tempted a few times to troll to suicide my account but they're so lenient with bans that I'd likely never catch a perma. And I kinda wanted to make sure my username was scrubbed from the place completely, anyway. It's why I changed my username here and on Steam a few months ago. I'd been wanting to revert to this one for a while and wanting to distance myself from ERA is what finally pushed me to do it.

Yeah, back when I still used reddit regularly, r/Games was the main one I used. Made a custom feed just for gaming news, I'll check those other ones out, thanks!

Yeah, I mostly use /games and /pcgaming, they cover most of my gaming news. I don't actually participate in the discussions so I had no idea how toxic/unbearable the community are. I just use them for news sources.

When it comes to specific game discussions, I'll miss Era OTs tbh, but nowadays I have Steam forums. After the initial launch window, the trolls are mostly gone so the general discussions are mostly good. Like in PSO2 Steam forums, people are discussing the tactics for the current hardest content, or what are their favorite NPCs, questions and answers about mechanics, some technical questions and troubleshooting, and other stuff. For most niche and more obscure games, Steam forums is the only place to discuss them. Discord is another good option but the major servers move too fast to be able to discuss anything. I usually have to find specific community discord of a game to be able to discuss things at a better pace.

Dang. I wish Luna Nights was twice as long. I really enjoyed that. The graze / shmup stuff was nice, and the boss fights were a lot of fun. It's definitely worth giving a go if you have it in your library.

I just discovered a local Vtuber but with the way she talks, she is like a Japanese girl speaking in my language

:wd_hot:

On topic, I am a relatively new PC gamer and all these retro FPS games announced lately look amazing to me. Maybe I will pick up Ion Fury as its price is not bad at my region.

No hololive?

Boo it's all about that Ninji what ever it's called and indie streamers down with Bilibili /s I actually don't know much about Bilibili and how people feel about the companies but I would imagine that the contracts that they have signed with some of these VTubers are not terrible (well not old YouTube MCN levels of terrible at least)

This is old news but it looks like on reddit that HZD for PC is still being promoted and it leads to this. PC Campaign

So what I want to know, is does this page follow the new PSN format? I remember that Sal (Gematsu) mentioned that Sony was updating some page stuff for some games and wanted to see if this new page is in that new format.

These sure are some subreddits. That fighting one in particular stood out as did the history one.

I use MC, Reddit and Gematsu for general gaming news.

I am fine with PC Gamer. As bad as they can be, with clickbait, etc., they are quite okay at aggregating the latest news.
I stopped reading them after their Pathfinder: Kingmaker "review". The reviewer only used promo images and only commented on the parts of game that were available in Beta and on which various gaming outlets did previews months earlier. It was clear he never went beyond Act 1, and it's even very likely that he never played the game (the final version of it anyway) at all. Furthermore, his review score was the same as user score on Steam at the time of publishing. His review never touched upon actual problems the game faced like bugs, long loading times, etc. Instead, the negatives listed were irrelevant things like "the game is nothing new", which could be applied to PoE2: Deadfire as well (but that was done by renowned Obsidian and not no-name Russians, so of course it didn't apply there). The favoritism and laziness was extreme and I lost all respect I had for them.

I just check Eurogamer and RPS for gaming news, and of course MC.

I still havent quite understood the relation between MC and Era, but maybe someday someone will enlighten me about it. When I checked Era once, I did notice the very similar Steam thread (I forgot what they call it).

I don't know the entire story, but I know more and more people went here due to the lack of moderation in Steam and EGS threads and the constant trolling and shitposting like "Competition", "Valve makes no games" and so on, people got tired and moved. Im one of them.

Same thing is currently happening with Xbox ERA, people are moving to XboxERA.com.

ERA has a trolling, toxicity and negativity problem which has made lots of communities, insiders and industry profiles leaving. I think Dark10x from Digital Foundry left recently, but not sure. He is a good man so if he truly has left, it's another major loss for ERA.

I know Lashman doesn't want to talk about ERA much, I just wanted to chime people in what is going on.

Gematsu, Eurogamer and RPS are all decent sites for gaming news, everything else kinda sucks (at least among major English sites)

Why people joined and are active here is probably different for everybody. For me, Era just become quite useless as a place to have sensible discussions about PC Gaming. Meta is a much better community for that. There is something to having a smaller community that Era never has, and never will have.

That being said, Era is still great for a lot of other stuff, and general gaming stuff too. I love the PnC, and Kiseki threads, for example.

Wok fantomena Mivey Thanks for clearing it up a bit, I figured something like this. I joined MC because I talked to lashman on Twitter back when the whole egsclusivity nonsense started and he invited me here. Apart from the anime, I liked it here pretty much from the start. I never was very active on English-language forums, but frequented a German one for years...those guys I've known for two decades, met in person, etc. But, it's been almost dead there, for years already. So it's very nice to once again have a pretty wholesome & active community. :)

Wait, GAF? There's more lineage to this? Fascinating.
Yeah, similar to what Monooboe said. I mostly lurked, gradually only hung out in a couple threads there as things got worse and then moved to do more lurking elsewhere when the shit hit the fan.

GAF was THE forum to browse for years. Then the owner was revealed as quite problematic in his relation to women and the site imploded, the community did a mass exodus.
Then ERA was founded and several key people on each of the Discord channels the community went were successful in organizing the move to ERA.
It was quite marvelous and seemed like the best outcome, as most of the content creators from GAF transitioned.
Then it turned out that moderating a major international message board is not easy, that the new landlords have policies issues, the team of moderators severely lacking, and now ERA is in the process of leaking users unhappy with the amateurish stewardship and each create their own offshoot site.

That being said it is worth pointing out that MC, while populated by numerous ex ERA, was not created in reaction to this shit, MC is more a communist wonderland where everyone is a mod :cat-heart-blob:

Could be more elaborate, but that’s the gist of it, comrade !
