I don't know if I buy Hades on PC or Switch.
I don't even use my Switch anymore, and the whole Nintendo and legacy content can of worm is obviously there.

But an indie rogue-lite is such a perfect game for handheld.

edit - I should try XCOM 2

You have WHAT?

Listen up young man,

you drop whatever you are doing and go play X-Com 2 or I swear I'm going make you watch anime. And I'm talking about the nasty stuff that doesn't make any kind of sense and kills brain cells like Neon Genesis Evangelion.
NGE actually mostly makes sense. You'd be surprised :p.

I watched it, many many years ago. (20 or so)
It didn't, or maybe I'm not clever enough to get it. Doesn't matter.
I was left confused, especially the last episode was "special".

Depends on how blurry you like games.

And available through PC Game Pass since late dec 2019.
Epic outdid themselves with Phoenix Point and Metro Exodus.
They sure did.
As a Fig backer, don't get me started. :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

I mean these fuckers promised Steam or GOG keys to backers, and were running an alpha test with their own downloads.
Then, they announced the EGS deal in highly cynical fashion, in a video that basically said "good news, we are now exclusive to another platform, and no, you won't get keys for any of the promised platforms", further complemented by posts on Fig and Reddit with some of their guys telling people that even if they refunded everyone, they would still have money left from the deal, so they didn't particularly care, nor were they worried at all about people's reactions.
So, they closed that alpha test (everyone had to go to EGS to continue playing it), and refused to even continue to offer a DRM-free download option, like they had at the time. Only after some insistence did they announce that would give GOG/Steam keys a year later, if people wanted to wait, instead of refunding the game.

So yeah, screw them.

I was a backer on this one and Shenmue III, and both had a similar result, but these cocky jackasses were much worse than the Shenmue III team, since they had the nerve to continue to mislead people talking about a GOG/Steam launch months after the deal was signed (people found entries on the EGS client for the game dated from way before, ready for the announcement), and they actually came out and told people the EGS deal was good for them, so they didn't particularly care about upsetting people, or negative reactions.

It is about a broken boy being put in a shitty situation and realizing his self worth and keeping his head up even in circumstances he can't control.

It's all rather obtuse and you need to research a lot of it outside the show but it does seem to have remarkably internal consistency. There was a fansite that explained it, from the way EVAs work to the whole soul-related things and multi-layered conspiracies. It's remarkably deep and ultimately I found those last two episodes way more relatable at the time than the movie, especially as someone struggling with pretty dark stuff at the time.

Teenager stricken by actually realistic depression and consequences of abuse? Yeah there weren't a lot of those in the mainstream media :p. For all the shit Shinji and the other kids get in that series, their portrayal is realistic and I related a lot. Oddly enough, it made me feel better about myself, it made the pain logical and validated it to some extent, but I digress.

Rebuild 4 can't come out soon enough :).

Even worse: this was the dev who sold his Fig backers to Epic, despite the game being fully funded already. No way they'll ever see a single cent from me, and I hope other pc gamers will spend their money on other games as well.

Edit: beaten by lashman 😋
I backed it and was pissed about the moneyhat shit. They were making refunds a pain in the ass too so I complained to Fig who then refunded me immediately. I don't do much crowdfunding these days but I have to hand it to Fig for handling the situation even thought it wasn't their fault.

A question: as you may know, Paradox likes to tie some in-game content to stuff like subscribing to a newsletter, referral programs, (...).
The upcoming Empire of Sin had a similar "promotion", at least when the website launched.

May I ask: is there any place on the Paradox website were one can confirm the content we have unlocked for which games?

thanks ;)

You should get a prompt for an extra free month when you redeem it, at least if you do it from the xbox app. Well that's assuming they give you a code, I don't know how these things work.

They were incredibly dishonest about it at the time too. They claimed they were unable to ask backers ahead of time because of a confidentiality agreement with Epic, but Snapshot were the ones to initiate contact with Epic about a deal.

Not a bad deal on this with the Choice discount:

3D models seem fine to me, but the broken tradition of sprites is sad to me. Love me some sprites.
Oh wow, fully 3D Disgaea. Never thought I'd see the day. Cool.

I expect this is just timed exclusivity as usual and it will hit PC eventually, so whatever. I still need to play D5 anyway, I can wait.

I have been buying Julian Gollop's games since the 80's, so for 30+ years I followed and supported his work.
After what he did, and the way he did it, and handled things, you can be sure he won't see a further dime from me.
They were insanely shitty about the whole thing, especially during that whole AMA they ran to explain the deal, where they basically downplayed and almost looked down on the people who had backed, or that pre-ordered the game directly from their website.

Same, why wouldn't you?
Well, maybe because I don't like rewarding shitty people? :thinking-face:

Same scenario for me and I couldn't agree more. Any game he is involved in will never see a single cent from me in the future.

The Phoenix Point scenario I also remember as one of those devs that were very cynical about it. In that timeframe lots of devs mustve been promised the world by Epic. I remember a Q&A with the Mech Warrior dev who was so convinced EGS would be on par with Steam feature wise very soon, that the game would sell more there, etc. Really, easily summarised with this emoji: :cautious:

It's a shame about Gollop as i pretty much followed them from the Spectrum up to the X-COM remakes.
You punks should go and play Rebelstar Raiders, then Laser Squad!
I loved those games, i still have my Atari ST Lords of Chaos & Expansion Disk One box and disks on my shelf. Ahh, nostalgia.

This XCOM2 talk has me intrigued though. The first one started getting really repetitive, why is the second one so highly recommended? Isn't it more of the same?

Heck, I even bought that big mess that was Laser Squad Nemesis.
And Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars was the first 3DS game I bought, and was one of the reasons I (regretfully) bought the console. ;)

Even ignoring the exclusivity shenanigans, Phoenix Point looks awful. Having it land on EGS first was a bullet dodged. The free aim system seems like the kind of gimmick that should have been dropped 10 minutes after someone suggested it, because it has such an obvious problem: if you can make shots manually, that means you have to manually check and compare tons of shots to determine what your best options are. Imagine doing that every single shot, every turn, for an entire campaign.

To make it worse, enemy animations apparently factor into this, so you have to also try to sync up shots with their animations. Here's an example of that, at 35 minutes. (Granted, this was at launch, so maybe it's been improved.)

Vanilla XCOM2 falls pretty much in the same trappings of the first one after a while but I offers much more variation and the combat is much deeper (it's actually quite astonishing how much the concealement start changes the game). It's a great game nonetheless.
But WotC... WotC turns a great game into a godly one. XCOM2+WotC is easily one of the greatest games ever made.
