When it comes to fighting games, I'm one of those weird guys that pretty much plays them only in single-player.
I simply don't have the time, nor patience, to practice these games on a regular basis, to a point where I can go online, and beat someone.

Anyway, so I launch Street Fighter V, and I see I have until October 1st to win 5 ranked matches, and 5 casual matches, in order to unlock some colours for Ryu's latest skin.
I'm sick, with a terrible headache, feeling unwell from something I ate yesterday, and I barely slept. I can barely open my eyes.
On top of that, I recently bought an Xbox One controller, and I hate the thing. I can't even pull the most basic moves in the analogue stick (like a shoryuken), and I don't have enough bad words to say about the D-Pad. I stopped using an Xbox 360 controller, one I mostly liked in terms of feel, but the controller was pretty much broken, with bad drifting in the analogue sticks (the characters kept moving without me doing anything), and the buttons and triggers kept failing, for this one. I don't know what's worse, the old controller, or the new one (in more than one occasion, I actually grabbed the old, almost non-functional controller, to play games).

Anyway, with all of this, I go online, thinking about trying to win a match (with Ryu, a character I never use) to help me in my goal to reach 5 wins in one of the modes to unlock those colours.
I played 13 matches, won 11, lost 2 (with the losses by a very small margin). 5 wins in 6 matches in ranked (for the first time I was upgraded to a higher ranking, and I reached the achievement for 10 wins in ranked matches), and 6 wins in 7 matches in casual.

Unbelievable!
Really, I'm not overstating how "slow" I am due to feeling unwell, and barely sleeping, and I spent most of the matches attempting to pull special moves, and failing (like a simple shoryuken; if I was able to do so, at least one of the two losses wouldn't have happened).
The only possible conclusion is that every person that was playing an hour or so ago was drunk, or with a massive hangover from the previous night, to lose against me, in these conditions. :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

We don't know what the recommended are targeting but I have my doubts that 30fps RTX is possible on a non-RTX GPU.
Yeah, that's a fair assumption. I honestly haven't looked at rtx benchmarks nor tried rtx games on my system yet. What are my options, Metro Exodus and Control? They're not my kind of games though.

I was checking the new game releases, and this one looks nice, for fans of games with an 8-bit look, and arcade-ish gameplay:

---

Speaking of games with an 8-bit look, I saw a game that just launched that looks like a very competent Castlevania clone, with a nice soundtrack (judging by the trailer) and pixel-art, but it features plenty of... sexual content.
What a weird combination. :thinking-face: I can't say that, playing the old Castlevania games, it ever occurred to me: this game needs some scenes of ladies having sex with monsters and foul creatures. :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:
But I admit: outside of the gratuitous sexual content, the game looks really good.

Anyway, if anyone wants to check it, the game is called Midnight Castle Succubus DX (big NSFW warning about the game's page).

---

Speaking of Castlevania clones, don't sleep on Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2, that launched a couple of months ago.
It's an awesome game in the classic Castlevania mold, and personally, I find it better than the previous game in every way.
Lovely pixel-art, catchy soundtrack, multiple characters and content variety, and above all, fun and highly responsive gameplay (with a fluidity you surely wouldn't get on original 8-bit hardware).
If you read some of my previous posts, you would know I rather like INTI CREATES output. But the quality of this game surprised me. They really have been stepping up their output, quality-wise.

Same, and I've had an RTX 2070 for almost a year now. My guess is my first "RTX Game" will be Deliver us the Moon, once a good sale comes along ...

Minecraft has an RTX version and looks beautiful. It's at least nice to fly around in one of the RTX worlds in kreative mode and play around with objects and light sources.

Mechwarrior 5 is unfortunately really bad.
CoD, Fortnite, Wolfenstein, Amid Evil. Quake 2, BF 5 and Tomb Raider also probably not your thing.

Deliver US the Moon could be a good recommendation,

Shadow of the Tomb Raider? I have it installed, actually. I'll try it tomorrow, thanks.

About Minecraft, which do you recommend, Java or Windows 10 version?

:steam_pig_shocked:

Go all in on SSD, having HDD anywhere in the system will bottleneck. Save it for a NAS or other kind of storage only thing.

Also to add, the computer will be much more silent, the biggest factor for noise in my old build was the HDD.
What? No, how would having an non-boot, storage only HDD bottleneck you in any way? Just get a drive that has auto-off on idle, the only time you'll hear the headers will be when you're using the drive.

Yeah sure but I was also thinking about when it's being used, always takes some time to get it going and thus would make everyday use just feel little sluggish.

Just let me trade points for discount vouchers, and I'll be a happy man.
I have nearly 500.000 points, and I really couldn't care less about icons or stickers. I wish they would allow users to trade points for things that are actually worthwhile (discount vouchers, in-game items, ...).
You can always trade them for my reviews :grimacing-face:

I don't actually write reviews

Afaik the RTX stuff is only available through the Windows 10 version.
Insider Program to be specific.

But I'm not playing Minecraft, just looking at stuff etc.
So no idea which version is the best to play.

The windows 10 version is dirt cheap though and I think activating the xbox key will unlock the windows 10 version as well...
But maybe google it first.

I wonder when MS starts selling the new controllers. Probably same day as the console release, but it would be nice to get one earlier. I also wonder about the price.

I sure hope they don't fuck up the driver situation for a year or whatever like they did on Win10 launch. Do they even need a new driver I wonder, never was too familiar with xinput.

I was loooking at this too, and thinking I might grab it. reminds me of some of the older namco stuff. An amalgam of a bunch of other fun games! Have you tried Eternum Ex? It's reminiscent of Tamiku as well, but a bit more "dark"

Yeah, I own it. ;)

Funnily enough, both games are by Spanish developers.

Tamiku actually has some levels that are a tribute to another Spanish developer's work, Locomalito (the developer behind games like Maldita Castilla Ex, Super Hydorah, ...). To be more exact, the content is based on a game called Darkula.
I previously posted about the game, but in case anyone missed it, it's a fun, free, coin op-inspired game, that is well worth a look:

---

Speaking of Locomalito, they recently released another free game, and once again, like their previous output (both free and paid), it's well worth a look:

And, for those that are yet to try it, fans of classic-style Castlevania games really need to try out another of their free games, The Curse of Issyos.
I can't recommend it enough:

Playing through Portal again though at a slower pace than one or two afternoons. Like much slower.

Though just like Half-Life 2: Episode 2 with the gnome I am doing the radios. Just getting it out of the way for further replays.

That jingle is now stuck in my head and will haunt me forever

While we're all waiting on BBR to materialize, here's something interesting that appears to have happened under everyone's noses recently.
If you go to the Instagram icon on this page, you get directed to this account:

So what's more likely,

  1. they created a redundant company account (bandainamcoeu vs bandainamcoenteurope) only to tease an announcement for a specific game, didn't bother to name it after that game, verify it or make sure it got followers or reach, just to start a shadow campaign no one saw for a flagship game in their lineup
  2. some webmaster linked the wrong account in one of the banners instead of the correct, verified account they do their marketing through
I'm not saying ER might not be at TGS or be revealed in another event, it just doesn't seem like anything worth paying attention to in particular...

Well I mean.... Didn't the Original game sort of center around that to begin with?

Or was that just a lie to sell us product?

Also from a technical stand point, whos work was more impressive John Carmark or Tim S? Because from my understanding both are programmers that worked on some import FPS games.

I was searching for old titles on Steam and found this game and its store page

Here is one of its screenshot.

And look at its game description
"Please insert the CLANS CD! Hit OK when done, or Cancel if you don't want any music."

This is an olde school Diablo type game, back in the days when games were run with the CD inserted. The interesting feature of this particular game is that the
contents of the original CD contained only the music for the game. What this means is that you can put ANY music CD into your CD player and the game will play it! If you don’t want to have music playing, simply hit ‘Cancel’ and the game will launch. Have fun!

The original CD audio has been added to the game files. If you want to hear the original soundtrack, you will have to navigate to your Steam directory where the game files for Clans reside. You will find a folder called "Clans music", and the audio files are in there. Then you will have to burn an audio CD and put into your CD drive.
Amazing in so many ways🤣
