Not me. I'm not buying blind, especially not FE cards.

I want a 3090, maybe the TUF, if it's as good as the 3080 version.
Part of me is also debating if I really need a 3090 as I'm not going to upgrade to 4k, but rather to 3440x1440.
A 3080 20GB should be fine for that too, I guess.
First benchmarks, than partner cards reviews, than a decision.

Will any of the third party producers do a four slot 3090? If the 3090 TUF is three slot, as the FE, I guess it may not be that much better

Yes.

There is much more to this than just size btw.

Quality of VRM, quality of memory cooling (gddr6x on the 3080 FE is getting 110°C), bios power limits, static air pressure, noise levels, how things make contact, general air flow, the plastic shroud can trap air (funny enough happened on 5700 Thicc cards).

Not saying that's something that needs to be taken into account or that FE cards suck. Just that size can be misleading when it comes to the quality of the cooling.

I'd be surprised if a third party 3090 is substantially better than the FE at the same size.

Anyway, I'll probably try to buy a FE, but not very hard. If I can't get one immediately then I'll wait to see what happens with regard to the rumoured second 3080 model.

Yeah me too. If i can order one at 2pm then great. if not i think im going to cancel my 3080 order with OCUK and just wait for an FE to re-stock/new version to come out.

Yea the fan sucks, doesn't blow. My current GPU is this way. Internals are pretty good.

Totally discouraged to buy here. Nvidia have to work on their online sales. I had it in my cart two minutes ago, tried to check out, loaded and nothing happened, now disappeared.
Edit: Stuck with the 3090 in my cart now. When I press the check out cart, a neverending loading process starts.

Yeah, I also got one into my cart a few times (client side or server side) but never managed to check out.

They really should just let you order, queue it, and then give you an estimate of when you'll get it based on expected production volume. Can't be that hard.

Yes, there has to be a more ordered process than this.

I left the cart loading for 30 minutes or so. No progress. Finally, the cart updated to state that the 3090 was out of stock, but the geforce now membership and watchdogs were still left in the cart.

You can order over Alternate.de
You just have to wait.

The most expansive one is:

2160€ with shipping.

Most are around 1770€, but I have no idea which one is good.

edit;
Asus TUF 3090 is just 1636€ with shipping over at caseking

edit 2:
still can't make up my mind.

I'm feeling so dumb right now. I have not monitored the temps in my pc for the past months, so I did not notice they were so high and it was time to change the thermal paste. :blobweary:

Already ordered it but no gaming for me in the next days. :weary-face:

Maybe dust is the problem? Usually that's the problem of high temps. Thermal paste last a pretty long time, like 3 or more years worth.

So...I have decided not to get the 3090 after watching the review of that guy who looks like Captain Caveman.

So Nvidia is on a timer. If AMD gets here before I can get a 3080, could be trouble.
I'm currently in the "if AMD does not have a DLSS alternative, they're gonna need to be really good otherwise" camp.
Very interested in what they have to show. I hope they're competitive, but I'm a bit skeptical right now tbh.

My PC has become a little too loud too. With 70° more often, at least while doing not very taxing tasks.
I should dust it off.

I have updated the nvidia product page a couple of times today, but no 3090s from cancelled preorders have been available.

I am thinking about ordering the Gigabyte 3090 aorus xtreme, or alternatively dropping the pursuit to get a 3090 close to its release

What's the g0-to NVMe M.2 right now that is a good compromise between relatively affordable price and good/reliable performances?

they are all mostly the same chips so just get whatever 3500 mb/s is priced the best imo. around $100 for 1tb drives is about the average for that speed unless you go with samsung or wd black brand

Anyone know if 3090 will be much better for VR than a 3080? I see some reviews are saying there's not much gains in pancake mode but i haven't seen any mention of VR yet.

i feel like it wouldn't really be any better in vr since its just got a pile of extra vram for ai computing that wouldn't be put to use in vr

Man the RTX 3090 looks like a dog. That price to performance ratio looks brutal. 8K is the definition of useless halo feature on a halo product. Power consumption and size are absurd. Value to certain workstation users is interesting. Reminds me a lot of the thread ripper ryzen cpus in these respects and that's not a compliment on ryzen cpus.

Better off with Xbox Series S, PS5 and RTX 3080 for that price.

Not sure if joking or not... This is the form factor that most NVME M.2 drives are taking on PC
Totally not joking. IDK what this is.

Don't feel bad, this was also my reaction the first time I saw these.
I am behind the times.

Yeah it's a trash card. I was going to get one to brag, but that's like...coal miners voting for Trump thinking he's going to bring back that industry, lol.

Patience...esp with AMD's announcement in less than 30 days. Pressure is on Nvidia.

Watch the video above to get the good overview, but yeah. NVME is the new type of Flash Storage that Hard Drives are taking these days. You essentially plug your hard drive into the PCIe bus and it lets it move WAYYYYYYYY more data more quickly. If you are looking to build a new computer ABSOLUTELY get a NVME M.2 for your hard drive.

NVME M.2 for my Windows? Couldn't I get one and migrate it?

I got a PCIe next to my graphics card that isn't being put to use right now.
lol dude says BIOS like "Bi-OSS" not "Bi-OSE" like I do.

Modern motherboards usually have a couple of nvme/m.2 socket.

They look like this

Although on more medium and high end ones usually have a removable heatsink because nvme pcie runs pretty hot, and will throttle the transfer speed under sustain load without one.

Older motherboard that doesn't have the socket can use an adapter to plug into your pcie slot.

Yeah, now I'm really gonna wait for a while to get a 3080 and see what's really going on with this. Looks like it's Asus TUF 3080 or bust atm.

The only applications where a 3090 is much better than a 3080 are ones which use more than 10GB of VRAM, and that's quite unlikely for any VR game.

It seems like the only really suspect ones are designs which use no MLCCs.

What I find interesting is that those are primarily Zotac. As I think I mentioned earlier in this thread already, Zotac is the only AiB I ever bought a GPU from which wasn't stable at stock clocks. I'll continue to suggest that people avoid Zotac.

I'm starting to think about cancelling my 3080 order. Knowing that the 20GB model is in the pipeline is really shaking me. Even though I'm likely never going to hit that amount of vram usage, just knowing that if I waited I could get more vram... :blobweary:

Gotta stay strong.

Or you could sell the 3080 when the 20 GB version comes along.

Some of us don't have either.

FWIW, I can absolutely understand that feeling.
It's also worth noting though that a 3080 20GB would cost (in parts, to NV!) around 150-200 USD more, at least according to people who know more about non-consumer RAM pricing than I do. If that's true then it's exceedingly unlikely IMHO that they would sell it for much less than $1000. Unless AMD really hits performance, price and features home this time around of course.

If only I knew more about the new AMD processors, I would consider a new build.
two more weeks on that front, but of course the sale won't last til then.

on the flip side the samsung 980 pro nvme is dropping this month so if you were looking for a tippy top of the line drive for a zen3 build, that'll be the one. however it's also gonna be $230. :p
