I think Cyberpunk 2077 is bringing the worst out in me. There is so much loot (most of it seems to be junk) and yet I have to pick it up. Most of the time I'm in in the visor mode so I'm sure that the room is cleared out. The other thing is all these "optional objectives" that are listed during the quest. Yes, I could ignore them but then it feels like I'm missing out.

So, given CDPR's... less than stellar history as an employer/company, I wonder if any lessons will b taken from this massive launch. Like, do they look at easily 3-4 million in sales across every platform by Sunday and think 'Crunch works' and even 'transphobic pr works', or do they actually move on from this and become a better company?

Cyberpunk is doing simply astounding numbers on Steam. I do find it a bit sad that the Deus Ex games struggled to do like 1/20th of what Cyberpunk is doing currently.
Deus Ex was trying to cash in on the name of, by the time of Human Revolution's release, an old cult title from the other team at infamous dev Ion Storm.. Cyberpunk is the long in development follow up from the same devs as one of the best known RPG's of the past twenty years. You're stacking the deck against Deus Ex here.

I doubt they will have time to reflect on anything. They will be crunching nonstop for the next 6 months trying to patch the game and release multiplayer/dlc for it. Plus proper next gen versions. And after that they will be working on a new Witcher most likely which will lead to a lot of crunch again.

Their marketing department was trash for the most part but also nailed it with all the Keanu stuff so they will probably be praised by investors, etc.

Honestly I don't think you can make giant open world adventure rpgs like this without crunch. I think devs like Rockstar and CDPR pushed themselves into a corner. Everything has to be bigger and better than previous game. And when people throw you money like this you will keep making those big games.

Also just noticed the moment you look away or so all random npc models switch around to diff variations, lol wut, (non interactive) vendors and djs and shit included which is really jarring since you notice a diff dude was at the stall just a second ago and such, or specific folks sitting on a bench or whatever.

Regarding crunch. I am an architect, I work for small company and I don't do overtime or work over the weekends, usually. But no matter how fast and efficient I am there are times when I simply have to take files home and work. Those are usually bigger projects that have really short deadlines compared to size of the project. And issue is that everything these days is so damn fast.

And now imagine company as big as CDPR wanting to craft amazing experience like W3 or CP2077, or R* and RDR2. These are one of a kind games out there. I simply don't see a way that these kind of games can be done without any crunch. Sure CDPR need to do better management job but they can't eliminate crunch entirely.

So I have played with the character customization tool. It is complex enough to get a funny result, yet limited enough that you cannot create Oblivion characters. Regarding genitals, you get 2 penises (one of which has a funnier elastic physics, bouncing around) and 1 vagina. There are 3 sizes, and the rest of the customization is hair colour. What is funny is that just next to the genitals, there is an option for the nipples, it is a binary option (show or hide nipples), it sounds like a very American thing to do, kind of weird. I did not get to adjust boob size, but maybe that is because I only explored one of the two baselines (man/woman) which one starts the customization process with. Anyway, character creation is funny the first time, but I think I will choose one of the pre-made characters next time: there are 3 pre-made characters per baseline, and one randomized option which gives good results as well (due to the limited options).

No one can really, this isn't a videogame industry problem but a problem inside the labour market itself. I'll work even during these holidays with only 2 days off (25 and 26), 7 days a week for 2 straight week, as if covid wasn't already enough of an issue, (It's also been a month that I'm working abroad 60h per week, so it's not like we haven't done anything until now...) ''just'' to let the company I'm working for to capitalize on some of the last bill of the year.
It's shitty? Sure it is, these year holiday are ruined. At least I will be paid well for what I do, but still I'm ''trading'' my free time for money (Such a shitty exchange if you ask me). Capitalism is the worst enemy of a worker, not cdp, not Rockstar. The entire labour market has to change

In terms of numbers, reviews will stay in mostly positive (around 70%) and CCU will probably reach 500k by Sunday if the trend is accurate.
While I was correct with the %positive of the reviews...

I clearly underestimated this game by giving it a way too low CCU peak (half of what happened last night, to be more precise)

Well, Cyberpunk is the best Single Player game debut EVER on Steam with over 1M concurrent players on first hours, absolutely insane, never saw this coming with a 3 store split.

Crunch is pervasive in almost every industry. Difference with the game industry I guess is that it has an eager workforce ready to put themselves through the meat grinder with not much to show for it at the end of the day. My ex-gf is lawyer and during the time we lived together I never saw more sleepless nights and being buried in tons of paperwork. Her workplace offered laundry services just so people could have fresh sets of clothes in office at all times, and plenty of people slept there.

The carrot of course was a wheelbarrow filled with money, partnerships, prestige and even high tier positions in courthouses or private council (depending on career path). The carrot in the game industry is a lot less enticing, unless you are doing it on your own. There is an argument to be made that the industry jobs and salaries have not kept up with that growth of the industry itself, and studios are benefiting tremendously from that fact.

I also think a lot of vg fans approach the conversation very immaturely and the crunch conversation turns like everything else into ammo for weaponized warz arguments and twitter activism and very far from a sincere desire to improve the industry for everyone, because in the end it would result in a lot of sacrifices being made as an audience, and people can't have that. We've even seen how the press picks and chooses which crunch (or lack thereof) stories to cover and with which angles.
...

Just saw the 1m concurrent. Could improve during the weekend too. Monster doesn't even begin to describe it.

That is kinda half true. Thing is that every system has it's issues. Socialism wasn't perfect either (my parents grew up in socialism). In reality it is up to the company to find best path to satisfy both employees and investors. I believe that it can be done but it requires compromises from everyone.

Ok people, waking up ! So, the perfs ? Was the review DRM a real killer or not ?
What can I hope to get with my 1440p 144hz, 2600x and 2060S ?

edit
Btw I hope I’m not ill, I sleep like a log these days :sweaty-blob:

Wait, you made me check back the LG reviews. Rtings may be wrong and VRR may very well only activate at 48hz, like TFT Central seems to point to, buuuuuut...
TFT also write 48-100hz (hdmi)...
...
Really ? I’m in fucking hdmi here ! Does that mean I should cap my frame rate at 96 ? :loudly-crying-face:

Oof, my two neurons finally woke up and I remembered a DP cable was in the monitor box and I used it.

MORNINGS, am I right ?

Steam was trending on twitter because people were blaming steam's servers for slow download speed, not realizing that its actually their game unpacking and is dependent on their HDD/SDD/CPU and not Steam lmao.
The PS4 will get most of the sales, with PC second and Xbox distant last (as usual)

Steam: 49.98 percent
GoG: 50 percent
Epic (LOL): 0.02
Witcher 3 sold most on PC and with the state CP is on last gen I wouldnt be shocked if it was the same situation here.

Wasn't Epic very pro geforce now? Seems like oversight.
Yes, I was shocked that CP2077 would not be there. :sad_tim:

By the way, Nvidia must have boosted their server capacity for CP2077's release, because there was no queue when I tried, like literally zero queue time.

So GOG Galaxy 2.0, useless or useless ? I mean, every fucking time I use it I have to re-link my different accounts. I understand it may not be helped, but talk about defeating the point.

It feels useless.

Origin always disconnects for me.

Steam never syncs properly, and disconnects constantly. Even when trying to sync, I usually get errors or a timeout.

Did they just add this earlier today?

Now the game has a GOG launcher on top of Steam when I boot it. It wasn't like this when I played it at launch this morning.

It gives you ingame rewards/registration rewards and how future things will work for linking lol

It might just be cosmetic shit or whatever but it's still shit requiring a linking of accounts
(I think it's fine but I like GOG/steam so whatever)

Also GOG Galaxy is shit with accounts because those accounts can't be saved indefinitely credential wise besides the two official ones Microsoft and Epic

All of the other ones will eventually time out and require relinking eventually that's why even after a month or two even your steam login on a browser or whatever will shit out and make you re-input everything because that's how however long they have it be saved for
