Chronicle of Innsmouth: Mountains of Madness

Mountains of Madness is the second chapter in the "Chronicle of Innsmouth" saga.

Private Investigator Lone Carter regains conciousness to find himself lying, washed up, on a beach near Innsmouth. His body has been ripped apart. His life is coming to an end. He tries to pull his last cigarette from the pack. His arm fails to obey. As he fades away into death, terror growing in his eyes, he remembers: The encounter with the Shoggoth had, for him, been a fatal one.

An endless period of darkness ensues.

Then, some burning fire within awakens him, and he returns, completely recovered and unharmed. Ever since this rebirth, Carter has been haunted by horrible nightmares. Extensive investigations lead him to discover a proposed expedition to the South Polar regions. A team of scientists are attempting to be the first to reach there a previously unknown chain of mountains higher than the Himalayas. Within a huge cavern they discover the alien bodies of hithertofore unknown creatures frozen in the ice walls. The mountains prove to hide the ruins of an alien civilization that, having come to the earth eons before, made it their home with the aid of their shapeshifting slaves: the Shoggoths.

These events concerning Carter occur ten years before those of Chronicle of Innsmouth, the first chapter in the saga, and will influence the stories of different characters in different eras, all entwined and linked by a common thread. We will travel to ancient Yemen, playing in the role of Abdul Alhazred - "The Mad Arab", the creator of the Necronomicon - and even step into the shoes of H.P. Lovecraft himself, guiding him along the path to unveil the mysteries of his bloodline. Mountains of Madness is a graphic adventure, oozing with twisty dread, which will drag all who play it to the very limits of their sanity... and perhaps beyond.

Strategically place building, terrain, and enemy cards along each loop to create your own dangerous path. Find balance between the cards to increase your chances of survival while recovering valuable loot and resources for your camp.

Strike down menacing creatures, recover stronger loot to equip on the fly and unlock new perks along the way.

Old Pete, “The Dock Yard”, is being demolished. He’s the first of his group of friends to go. It was unexpected and everyone is a bit worried.

Being made of bricks and mortar doesn’t mean you don’t have your own things to worry about.

This ragtag group of friends were there, right from the start, when it really became a city. With them they brought the titans of the industry, hundreds of jobs and hundreds more houses. But the Linen Mill’s not been getting many textile orders come through this year, the Warehouse lost another contract from the neighbouring city and the Old Bank’s having money troubles.

Something’s not quite right. Change is coming. What if they’re next?

Fortunately, you, The Halfway Hotel, are at hand to step in and reassure everyone that things will be ok. But what starts off as small odd jobs ends up unravelling into more problems, as history moves faster than you can keep up with.

Buildings Have Feelings Too! is an exciting new city management game about buildings and the city they inhabit.

Imagine a city where buildings can walk and talk to one another. Each one has its own aspirations, hopes and fears. Most of the time they are just trying to get along with each other and make it through the day. Monster Train: The Last Divinity

Epic new content expansion for Monster Train bringing new challenges, more replayability, and a new clan!

A new clan has risen from the depths of hell to join forces with your 5 original favorites. The Wurmkin Clan is led by two powerful new champions. The Spine Chief uses the power of Charged Echoes to do damage and make compatriots even more powerful and the Echowright can tap into the power of consumable spells in all new ways. Charged Echoes create buffs for the whole floor and bring a completely new gameplay mechanic to the already diverse world of Monster Train.

Pact Shards are a brand new currency; unlike gold, you reap benefits when you GAIN shards rather than when you spend them. But beware the tradeoff, they also enhance the power of your enemies in battles throughout your run. You acquire the Pact Shards in the Shard map nodes on your journey in the Boneshaker. Each ring has one Shard map node, so be sure to look for them. You can take on more Shards to gain gold, artifacts, or spell upgrades, or to perform a new mechanic called unit synthesis where two monster units are merged into one. If you have gained 100 or more Shards when you defeat Seraph, a new battle unlocks and you can face – The Last Divinity!

The clans of Hell will need to rally together and support the Wurmkin clan, as a new ominous deity interferes with the ongoing battle between the forces of Heaven and Hell. The Last Divinity is so huge it can’t be contained to one area and instead imposes itself over all 3 floors at once. Prepare, as all your previous knowledge and strategy will be pushed to the limit to defeat this last divine force. What will tip the balance?

I'll probably only get Yakuza 6 this month, but I doubt I'll play it this month since I have to beat 4 and 5 and I don't want to play them back to back.
I'm also planning to play through 4 and 5 this month. Just from the little I played 4 it seems to be bigger than 3, so I don't think I'll buy Y6 except if it has a good launch discount or decent regional pricing (it won't have). Most likely I'll only get Forza Horizon 4 and that's it.

As always thanks for the great thread lashman.

Yeah... "slow" month for me. There's Yakuza 6 but I also still have to play 3-5.

Not that it matters, for some reason I decided to replay old games instead attacking my backlog.... (yeah, don't ask my why).

Can't figure out how to properly quote a post in a locked thread...

I think so. I mean, there's no question that what I've experienced of space in modern space sims had me reeling at how enormous, mind-bogglingly big and immense space is. Even 100 000km is freighteningly huge, and that's like a tiny leap by those game's standard. The way space is populated, how they make it interesting required new answers but I think they aren't all that different from traditional RPGs. Interdiction zones, gravity wells and nebulas have replaced mountains, rivers and cliffs, but the paradigm doesn't seem too alien.

There's also something to be said for the awe of such spaces, of such scales. Many people mention how empty a lot of those landscapes are and they'd be right. Still, what a backdrop! What a world and setting to surrounding your story with, not to mention that it's real in ways that make skyboxes look medieval.

Edit : Just because I can take the opportunity to use one of the last posts of the thread for February, here's an old video of SC that might illustrate the feeling I mean.
I really should go to bed, and shall immediately after posting this, but something occurred to me reading your post:

In the most obvious way, space is empty and barren. In another, it's very densely packed: no matter where you look, and no matter how small the pinhole through which you look, there are thousands of galaxies in that direction; you just can't see them for lack of sensitivity to the scant few photons they emit at the exact right angle to end up in your eye. Example of a Hubble image, after very long exposure:

So long as the game doesn't require you to go there physically, but gives you instruments to see them, analyse them, and reasons to care, it can offer a wealth of objects to "explore", as well as stunning visuals, beyond the usual Star-Wars approach flight to a new planet, and even in the complete absence of life.

Not sure what the "reasons to care" that could drive gameplay (other than "Astrophysics, the Game") would be at that point, though. Anyway, good night.

That wasn't what I meant by skybox but this is a fascinating thought all the same! I'm actually interested in a game called Signal that fits the feel of your post :).

Thank you for the thread, lashman!

Nothing for me this month, though. I've already played through FH4, and it was not too long ago either, so won't be getting that on Steam.

I think I already bought whatever gaming things are of interest this month. Loop Hero and Forza. Will be playing Loop Hero but won't be rebuying Forza on Steam until the Ultimate edition is at a suitably low price.

Ahhh that lovely new thread smell. Thanks lashman.

Looking forward to Narita Boy and Monster Train DLC this month. I'll get FH4 down the line when it's cheaper since I still have a game pass sub and Y6 when I get around to finishing Yakuza Remastered.

I have to try the Loop Hero demo to see if it's something I want.

I don't think I'm going to play it again (because I don't own it on Steam), but the Obscure games have Olivier Deriviere soundtracks. Good stuff as you might expect from him.

Also I don't recall them doing much work on the Steam releases which made me quite sad at the time.

I sold my old cpu and mobo. Huzzah. Extra money!!!!!!
Which I'll use to pay some bills instead of buying anything fun. :surrenderblob:
