Not surprised there isn't much talk about Resident Evil Zero, it's easily the worst RE game I've played. backtracking at its worst, uninspired bosses, very limited inventory space.

That makes it 4/5 for this season.

It's not on my Blitz but I have it on my personal goals for the year as I finish up the Resident Evil games. I've heard mostly bad about it but that's not making me feel any better!

I forgot to comment that I finished two more Blitz games.

The MISSING: J.J. Macfield and the Island of Memories is a really bad game but notable for tackling a sensitive topic so that's admirable. But just gameplay alone I'd rate it around a 3/10 if I'm feeling generous. The writing was really great for the most part, so that did help push me through.

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate started very average for me, raised up to feeling pretty good for a middle stretch, and the last two or so hours I mostly hated the entire experience as I cleaned up the big bosses, did its shitty triforce hunt, and then had a very frustrating final boss that should have felt good but all attack abilities feel like they have input lag and are mushy so I died repeatedly despite not feeling like my fault at all. Overall I'd not suggest anyone play the game, even if they like the modern Batman games. Just replay one of them or work on Riddler trophies or something instead of playing this.

I have Trine 2 (a very safe bet that I started briefly last year so I know it is something I'll like) and Metal Gear Rising Revengeance. I also started that up a few years back and got past a boss or two but I'll start over fresh. I don't think I'll love it as much as many fans of it do but I do remember it being fun. So thankfully I should end the Blitz on a higher note.

RE Zero isn't that bad. The lack of magical item boxes was a neat experiment but it feels like they mostly built the map before that mechanic was added and it suffers from it, especially on first playthrough.

Its worse offense is that it's kind of forgettable in the end and them making it a prequel means that you already know where it's mostly going to end up by the end. And back when it first came out, following up after REmake was never going to do it any favors.

Conveniently I've never played through Resident Evil so I really don't know the specifics of the events in that game. That's also on my list and of course I'd play after Resident Evil 0, assuming I make it all the way through and don't back out of it.

Down goes Halo2. Fun, especially switching between the the new and old graphics. Maybe it's because I've been pc gaming the majority of my life, including shooters, but I don't see how that game is considered so amazing? Maybe it's because it's been nearly 20 years since it came out and I'm playing a shinier version of that same game, but man, the level design in the campaign is still circular corridors that really show the hardware limitations of the the 360 and really show now. Also, maybe it was the multiplayer, something I don't partake in?

While I will always agree that the Halo games aren't good and don't understand the praise they get, I'll at least point out that Halo 2 was original Xbox still so that could explain even more about its limitations. Halo 3 was the first one on 360.

But don't worry, that extra horsepower didn't mean the game was suddenly good. The series remains bad even that generation.

Halo2 was on the original xbox? I just remember the hoopla around it and GFWL/Vista. Man, I'm old. I stand by it though, from a gameplay and design perspective, garbage. Technically (graphically), not bad. At least the new cutscenes were enthralling and Keith David is always good on the ears

I recommend playing Resident Evil 1 before 0. In fact, play 1, 2, 3 and CV before 0.

Really? Is it because of release order?
Difficulty. Zero is the only one that has the option to restart the game with all your current items because you may get stuck against enemies you may have no chance of defeating.

Speaking of Resident Evil I finished R3make little while ago and it was great! ...for the first hour.
Nemesis was such a threat in the first hour, two punches and you're dead so he actually was a menace and made the beginning tense as heck! Sadly after that they seemed to only have scripted sequences with him and he turned to kind of a joke that was unable to get anything done. Flamethrower? RPG? nope can't hit anything with these, let me just turn to the ultimate hunter... a dog? I don't know it was all over the place. At least Jill and Carlos were great.

7/10

Zero > R3make

I've now beat Dragon Age Origins (I'm now working through all the DLC, there was a lot of characters that mesh up with the 2nd game I didn't realize, some of it being such a long time between playing it and well just not remembering)

Story holds up great. Combat on it is pretty bad anymore. Normally I play games on the hardest difficulty otherwise I just get super bored with how easy I find them (Just how it is to me) but I just set it to normal/easy on stuff because I would of had to micromanage every character with constant pausing and it would of taken years to finish the game.

So my main character in Origins is a Dalish elf, they essentially refused to join human cities and are nomadic until all elves join together to find a new homeland etc etc but the elf clan you're a part of in origins to the fact of You actually bring Merrill (One of your future companions in DA 2) into a cave at the very beginning of the game to inspect a mirror that basically sets off the chain of events into how your character becomes a grey warden. But for DA2 it is actually the same clan you interact with a ton with in DA 2 and one of the things you sort of end up doing in DA 2 with one of your Companion if you follow through on side quests etc with Merrill you can end up killing everyone in her Dalish elf clan, so basically the main characters of Origins entire Dalish clan gets murdered in the defense of Merrill Lol. I just found it kind of wild. Anyways

Any mods to make it super easy so it can be played mainly just for story? I did that with Witcher 1 back in 2019 when I played through the series because I mostly just wanted to get through that one for story and not deal with frustrating combat sections.

There isn't really any mods that I know of that affect anything worthwhile besides the UI and displaying hats, although there's a glitch that can basically give you infinite money. If you set the game on easy you can pretty much just have all the other characters on auto pilot and focus on your character and only pause to heal yourself.

My only advice would basically be that Each heal potion has a different cooldown: In the sense of Lesser Health potion, Health potion, Greater Health, Super Health potion all have separate cooldowns so you can use them each differently and if you have a companion that knows how to make them it's pretty much impossible to lose a fight

Magic is also broken as shit in the game, you can play a mage (For a super interesting play through) and lots of damage

Fake edit:

I found this like half way through my playthrough and used it though to change my UI so i could actually read it:

I can explain any of the things in it pretty easily but, Origins is one of my favorite RPGS easily

Finished off Yakuza Kiwami 2.
It is by far the best looking Yakuza game in the serie. It also had a strong start on the story but I kind of think it fell short at the end. And some chapter felt like it was more of a filler than bringing something into the game. Yakuza 2 was by far the most easiest one in the series I think, although that I think it had the better fighting system if I compare it with Yakuza 1.
All in all, I enjoyed the game, and good thing there's some sort of side story after the main story, so I probably going to play it too :pleasedblob:

I made a few more changes to my list as Defector wasn't for me either.

I added Observer: System Redux and Mafia: Definitive Edition, the former of which I completed yesterday and enjoyed very much. I also finished Sam & Max: Save the World, which I enjoyed a lot. Both of these games brought me out of a funk where I was starting games and bouncing off them pretty quickly.

So all I've got left to play for this Blitz is Unravel (which the jury's out on - I may not enjoy it) and Mafia: Definitive Edition, which I grabbed from Humble yesterday for a bargain price. I will play those next month as over the next 2-3 weeks I want to play some current year releases which I pre-purchased (and as such don't consider "backlog" games - so I don't include them on the Blitz): Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch), Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game (Xbox Series S) and Persona 5 Strikers (Steam).

Completed Darksiders 2 so that makes it 5/5.

Good game overall, I think I liked it better than the first, which I played after it released 10+ years ago so I don't remember much from it. I will play the 3 additional campaigns.

I played through the first mission in Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes.
It's not main game on my list of games to play, but at least some kind of tech teaser I think?
Anyhow, man it was tedious to play through the first mission. I cannot remember I had such a hard time when I played MGS on the PSX. In Ground Zeroes I felt so helpless at some point since I more or less did not have any kind of assistance. Or perhaps I'm very inexperience gamer now when it come to play spy games... I wonder if I should switch game or should I take on the main game MGSV you think? :minos_thonking:

From what I can remember Ground Zeroes is overall far more limiting and requires a lot more stealth as a whole. I know I played it mostly sneaking around. Phantom Pain on the other hand has so many items you can get that you are far more free to play the way you want and going more action works in most cases. I don't want to spoil any systems in the game but once the game opens up you're most free to play to your style.

Edit: And I finally started up Trine 2 again for my Blitz as one of my two remaining games. I've been getting a bit more in the habit of juggling games so I did a couple levels and then bounced between some other stuff and I think I'll keep that up for the most part. In the first level I played I completely forgot how to use my favorite ability and thought maybe they removed it this time around but looked up a guide online and figured out what to do and it was so much better the next level. That might ultimately get me to play it in larger chunks but for now I'm bouncing between it, Cartagra, and Sanitarium. And maybe something else will creep in. Kind of nice to bounce around because before long I want to return to whatever isn't being played so I'm constantly eager to make progress.

I started playing Lightning Returns yesterday. The game is very different from the previous games. Now you have one character in battles, and it's more of an action based RPG rather than turnbased or whatever the previous games were.
What kinda me is the limited time I have. I have to as much as possible in a short time. For the first time ever, I looked in a walkthrough right in the beginning of the game and see what I should do in order to not miss anything.
I also looked for video with tips and tricks. One of them even suggest that I should fail all days and receive op items that I should use for New Game+.
How is the game supposed to be played? Is it expected that I will not beat the game in the first playthrough and multiple playthroughs are required?

No you can finish it in one playthrough easily and there's plenty of time.

I finally made time to get through Trine 2 in a couple of chunks and I'm glad that's all done before the weekend as it was kind of hanging over my head. I had a good time with it overall but this one ultimately seemed kind of smaller and tight with some slightly annoying mechanics despite having a lot of creative areas and the new abilities did allow for freedom in some solutions. It's kind of hard to describe what I feel about it compared to the first game but I think the first one was more open about letting me grapple everywhere and I just had a great time with that in comparison of using all the different abilities this time. I am really interested to try the 3D playing field in the third game, though. And of course Trine 4 is also of interest since it's much more recent and hopefully shows some advances that time would allow.

Only Metal Gear Rising Revengeance remaining. I won't hop into that right away but I'd like to have it done in a week or two so I'm not rushing at the end of March.

Hopefully MGRR more fun than MGSV.
I've played few mission in it now, and I got few things to complain about. The first one is mainly that the story isn't streamlined, what I mean in the way that you follow the story along as you play. Instead you are selecting mission to go on, I think they are main story line missions, but most of them doesn't trigger something which carry on the story. And each story you are more or less forced into sneaking into enemy base to accomplish your mission objectives. Though you can also go in as Rambo and kill everyone, but I find it kind of cumbersome...

I wanna progress forward with this game and get the story of it which leads later into Metal Gear Solid 1, but it is kind of not so fun game to play at the same time... 🙄

Revengeance is totally diffent game than MGS games. It's pure action game

I have been playing Lightning Returns. The game is different from previous FF games, it's not linear and it seems that combat is not focused in this game. It's more of a questing game, where you have to help people with different task in order to save their souls.

found out with the starting weapon equipped with suppressor and a good scope I could easily take out enemies from far. so no more running out from enemies sight whenever shit hits the fan

For all its other faults, I really enjoyed MGSV gameplay.
Just one tip, don't forget to research heavy weapons like rocket launchers and shit. I played very stealthy and mostly non-lethal most of the game and definitely regretted not doing a lot of heavy weapon research in some spots.

I have a lot of thoughts and feelings about guns in Metal Gear Solid games. I could write an essay, but I'll settle for two short paragraphs for the sake of brevity.

In short, I hate what the series has become and one of the lightning rods for me was the guns. When MGS4 took the gun porn to the next level the series had already crossed the rubicon. The weapons in MGSV were, well, abundant and mostly redundant save for a selection of two or three, with a few one-use weapons thrown in for good measure. Yet there's dozens of them which are functionally useless and/or near identical to other guns and it drives me mad.

I'm not saying the series took a turn for the worst because of the crazy amount of weapon fetishism, but I feel the indulgence of it is emblematic of a bigger problem the series has suffered from post-MGS3 (or post-MGS2 depending on who you talk to).

I swapped over games, I beat Dragon age Origins and all of its DLC (Again)

I think Imentioned that up a couple of posts but just mentioning it again for more of my own sake (It's the same I beat it again)

Started and completed Zombi on uPlay and I knew it was a WiiU or Wii game but some of the mechanics for it are neat and quirky I guess but some are just kind of super stupid because of being translated from requiring the tablet originally as a second screen. Overall the story is basically just all over the place and near the end I basically got completely lost
There's a Doctor Character about halfway through the game who makes you get a bunch of shit to basically "Find a cure" and there's a guy from the start of the game called "The Prepper" whos been leading you around telling you what to do and how to survive basically but near the very end of the game they both tell you to basically go to the exact same spot and I was like ah ha its the same person all along! Because the prepper never wants to meet up with you ever, and there's some dialogue with making it seem insinuated that they're the same person. But bit later in that the doctor is straight up dead zombified and you get told off by the prepper for listening to loony bin doctors and to go fuck your self and there's some other useless shit with the game blah blah

Overall It wasn't complete shit but I was often times fighting the mechanics of the game instead of zombies so I'd give it a leave it in the past and play another zombie game, and I love zombie games

Only four weeks to go! Better get completing!

I started my final game by finally returning and starting over Metal Gear Rising Revengeance. The last time I played it was over four years ago so I mostly forgot everything and I only got a couple levels in. I completed the first opening level tonight on hard and should have it done by the end of the weekend as I do a bit of it each day.

MegaApple just a reminder you might want to pick your games soon. Your row is still blank!

Nioh 2 and Outward pretty much ate my whole February and I'm still not done with Nioh. I think Pathologic 2 won't happen, but hopefully I will have time to finish the other four games from my list.

In this Blitz I've played many, but finished at least 5 games. My final completion was Puyo-Puyo Tetris on the Switch, which was actually pretty okay. And by "finished", I mean any story mode. Obviously with Puyo-Puyo Tetris there's still tons of gameplay after the story mode, which is a good way to learn the different gameplay mechanics. But after all's said and done, I will probably just stick with Tetris.

Now onto thinking about 2021's second Blitz.

I'm really looking forward to the next Blitz because I randomly themed it for Metroidvanias for me, which I really enjoy, but as with most folks and owning too many games I start stuff and put them off or just never even get around to starting games. So now I'm lining up Metroidvanias I own and haven't started or completed and I'm getting excited to run through a bunch of them.

I don't think I could do a theme for my Blitz because I burn out on gameplay genres very quickly. For example, I just sank 16 hours into Root Letter: Last Answer, and that's me done with visual novels for a little bit.

I quite like variety and trying things I got on a whim but never motivated myself to play, nor whether I know if I'll even like it.

The downside is that I wind up cycling a lot of games in and out of my list. The upside is I find out I enjoy some games that I didn't think I would. Puyo-Puyo Tetris is an example of that.

I think Metroidvanias are a genre I could largely play back-to-back a lot and never tire of it. But even with picking five Metroidvanias I tend to complete 25-35 games in a three month period so there'll still be plenty of variety in between games. And since they're not all from the same series they won't feel quite as samey like when I play through a full game series (like when I did all Kingdom Hearts or all Mega Man 1-10 games).

I have finished Death end re;Quest, that makes it 4/5 :coffee-blob:

Still enough time for The Letter, we'll see.

Anyway the game actually had a surprisingly good story? I expected average tropey "good enough" but definitely got positively surprised.
It's really captivating and goes places and then some more :sweaty-blob:
The gameplay is whatever. Interesting ideas, but the balance is a complete mess.
Thankfully it's not too long (took me a bit under 30 hours) and a good chunk of that is reading VN-like sections anyway.

Okay seems like I finished MGSV, though I thought it was 50 mission long. But suddenly when I was at mission 39, I was thinking. Didn't I already played this mission long long ago? So I checked in the mission list and yes it was mission 5, but a variation of it. So it turns out I already finished it. The main story goes from 1 to 31, and the remaining 19 missions are just post game missions :O

Anyhow, I wanted to give some post-finish feeling of this game. Back when it was released it must have been ground breaking game, but today when I played it, it felt like meh. Story-wise it started out really good, but then when instead of moving along in a streamline story, you are instead given missions where you have to selective go through until you reach the end. Anyhow it started out good, but it kind of got lost in itself I think. And the more I played it got less interesting. The missions are more or less the same, sneak and sleep dart enemies, or go all out rambo and kill everything.
Honestly I don't think this game should have been given open world, it would've been better if it was enclosed and you go through the story like a traditional action game instead, e.g. the first MGS to PSX. All in all, would I recommend it? Not really, but if you like stealth espionage game, then MGSV might be a game for you.

Semi long rant. This was my 5th and last game anyhow, so I finished of the games I had in my list :geek:

I'm still playing Dragon Age Inquisition, 116 hours in. :surrenderblob:
I'm almost done though, going through the last DLC at the moment.

Valheim has also been consuming some of my time.

I have achieved peak Blitz! Finished Halo: Reach (had to start over from the beginning because when I stopped playing it ages ago when it came out, I was playing on max difficulty and didn't have fun, so now I did Normal and it was fun).

I am still playing Lightning Returns and to be honest, I like it least of the ff13 games. The concept with limited time to finish the main quest and side quest is bad in my opinion. It seems that doing the main quests only is only a small part of the game, while the side quests is majority of the game.
There isn't a big variation of character models for the npcs which I find it strange since there are a lot of side quests

Two weeks left!

I keep putting it off with other games but I finally returned to Revengeance and I'm past the halfway point after doing a mission a night for the past few nights. I expect I'll finish it in 2-3 more nights and be done with my Blitz list. The end of this month I have a bunch of stuff to play lined up so I need to clear my slate!

I need to get back to my blitz games but at my playtime for DQIX I am not really in the mood for it. But I should be able to finish Paradise Killer once I am done with Dragon Age 2
