I watched JL and I don't even remember what the original one was about. I'm pretty sure that I did see the original I think?
I now for a fact that I did see Batman V Superman though.

In the original version did the movie start with a funeral?

Whedon cut started with a music video intro iirc. Can't remember what song it was or if there was funeral stuff in it.

That was followed by the WW bank stuff and ofc it was missing all the great action stuff from the Snyder cut.

It really was criminal what Whedon did with the theatrical cut. Hard to tell how much he had to work with and how rushed it all was.

The one thing Whedon did that was kind of funny/good imo was the lasso of truth scene when WW trolls Aquaman.

Actually it's possible that maybe I didn't even see the original after all. I think the deciding factor will be if the Batman V Superman movie had the post apocalyptic scenes in it, if it did then I guess I didn't see the original JL movie and I'm just mixing it up with the Batman V Superman movie.

I watched BvS Ultimate Edition over a week ago in preparation, and there was nightmare scenes in it, but I'm not sure if those were just added into that version or if it was also in theatrical release.

The original JL movie had that scene where batman uses a robber as bait in the beginning (then just lets him go LoL), another thing that might jog your memory is the end battle had a very very red sky.

I kinda hope Warner lets Snyder make another JL movie.

They have no one else to make anything so ambitious as he makes. I don't see Wan or Jenkins doing something so big with so many characters. And Reeves is doing the solo Batman thing. Snyder is really the only person to pull something like that off again.

At the very least let him do like a miniseries on HBOMax to flesh out the villains like Darkseid, Black Adam etc. Maybe let him do something with the Old Gods stuff.

This cast of JL is pretty good and young. You have to get at least one more movie out of them. And it wouldn't hurt any of the side solo films from other directors. The Justice League movie can be its own thing like they've always done with animated movies.

I think I'll subscribe to Paramount+ soon to take advantage of the free month and the $3 cash back that my credit card company is offering if you subscribe before May 2021. I think I could watch every episode of Picard and Star Trek: Discovery before the two months are up.

I'm subscribed to it and it's pretty meh. I did the 1 year of CBS all Access with no commercials for $50 USD and that's not a bad deal. So far the main thing thing that I have used it for is watching the Loud House.

If you are into Star Trek like you seem to be, then that's a very good deal. All of their other stuff doesn't really seem to be interesting (I'm surprised that some of these CBS shows actually ran as long as they did but I guess old people really like crime drama shows? Which seems to be one of CBS bread and butter along with game shows. I've seen some of the sitcoms that CBS has a s compared to ABC and NBC they are just not that good. Oh and FOX had some pretty good adult animated series like Bobs burgers that I guess CBS doesn't have an interest in doing.

Paramount+ has a movie selection and boy is it ehhhh.

Ok, with so many things that interest me releasing these days, I was lured to the TV and watched something. Gasp.

Godzilla (2014)
It's nice. It's a cute attempt. Here's the extant of my praises. Pretty by the number, boring at times, cliché, but nothing that bad. The more fanservicey dialog lines are cool, it was globally a... not bad time ? But I won't watch it again for years. IT. WAS.

I rewatched Godzilla 2014 and it was okay like Li Kao said

There are some good parts to it but that's like maybe less than 10% of the movie.

The main human protagonist is rather boring, there was not really a need to have that family in the movie other than maybe the dad.

The only part of the movie that felt like a "godzilla movie" was the whole thing about not using nukes to kill godzilla (since anti-nukes is one of the main ideas behind godzilla)

The other issue that it has is that there are just to many characters and you don't really learn much about them and they are just there, like the whole kid in Hawaii, was that really even needed?

I guess that this is the issue with Godzilla 2014 vs something like Shin Gojira. Is how it pertray the military, in Shin Gojira because of politics and WW2 Japan would have very limited abilities to deal with Gojira and basically has to rely on the US military to help deal with it and from the looks of it Japan is not happy about that. Also to no surprise in both movies the US army suggests to just nuke Godzilla and hope that that kills him (so I guess that's something that those movies have in common).

With the whole Monarch thing you really don't even need to see the 2014 movie, there is only 3-4 idea that you need to take from that movie and that's basically that Monarch is in charge of looking into titans, titans are able to communicate through some echo/radioactive frequency and that Godzilla is an apex predator that attacks when it sense an unbalance between the titans.

I also watch the King Kong Skull island movie and the 2019 Godzilla movie

I rank them as King Kong> King of monsters > 2014

King of monsters was more of the 2014 movie but there were some difference there such as better character development for some individuals. In the 2014 movie there is maybe less than 20% of it being kaiju fight stuff but in the 2019 movie there is at least 30+% of kaiju fighting scenes.

With western Godzilla movie there is just so much that you can do with a godzilla movie. I noticed that at the end of the 2014 movie that the US military did get some credit. But not in the 2019 from what I saw.

Now let's talk about King Kong compared to the 2 Godzilla movie that one was way more interesting and it felt more like a "vietnam movie" for some that are not familiar with that type of movie, just watch Full Metal Jacket to get an idea of what I'm talking about (it just has a way different feel to it).

There was a number of cool scenes in the King Kong movie, the best scenes being the camera one, that whole set up was pretty cool.

But yeah the King Kong one had much more character development and you felt more for the characters than the 2 Godzilla movies were people were basically just there.

I'm looking forward to the movie next week. But sadly I feel like it will lose some of the charm that the King Kong movie had since it's going back to that whole "command center" style of set up. In the King Kong one they basically went to an island blind and had only themselves to figure a way to get out.

One if the cool scenes from the 2014 movie is the Halo jump, very specially the part where it's just nothing but grey clouds and the red smoke. So this is after they jump but before you see a destroyed city. The part were they show the destroyed city is kinda eh. The reason that I like that part is because if the music and basically it's giving a "we are now diving into the depth of hell/the unknown" seeing how in that that shot that you don't even see the city and they are basically dropping in blind to the massive dark backdrop.

Snyder Cut and Godzilla vs Kong both reviewed really well for HBOMax.

I wonder if they can make it 3 for 3 with Mortal Kombat. Probably not but I bet nobody would have predicted that all 3 of those movies could have good reception at the start of the year. Either way its still pretty great so far with their day n date strategy.

Its gonna be tough next year when they don't do the streaming debuts. I still don't see myself going back to the movie theater for a long while. There is nothing this year. Avatar 2 and The Batman are the only films next year that might tempt me.

Well that was Godzilla vs King Kong... That was sort of weird. So from 2014 to 2021 they released 4 movies and while there was some cool fight scenes at the end of it all it just sort of feels like, is that it? But I guess that there is only so much that you can do with this genre.

It was a decent movie to the the least.

What ever happened to the final destination movies? It's been 10 years since the last one and it just seems like a movie idea that would keep being made every 4-5 years. Or is the idea just that outdated?

Godzilla vs Kong - It's okay as a ~ 1 hr 40+ fun distraction. You can't go into these Vs, movies expecting much in terms of a good plot. It's always just a glorified Youtube Death Battle with millions of dollars backing it. Well, that's the case for most big monster movies too I guess, ;). Anyway, I enjoyed it way more than King of Monsters. Pretty much every human is written as a cartoon character, and there are many dumb scenes involving the humans, but I never cringed anywhere near as much as I did in KoM. KoM made me wish I was brain dead. Another thing that I both appreciated and hated was the CG. On one hand the movie is pretty... It's a pleasure to look at, especially the Hong Kong fight which was bright and crazy looking. It's like they decorate all their buildings with giant RGB LEDs over there. However, even though its pretty I just hate how phony it looks. It felt like I was watching a video game cut scene instead of feeling like I was watching a real life giant ape. That's what bugs me about CG sometimes... On one hand I can appreciate how far it has come and what it can allow creators to do, but on the other hand I just wish they could figure out how to make it not obvious that I'm watching something computer generated.

I haven't seen more than a few minutes of Skull Island, but I've seen the others and this is how I would rank them:

Godzilla 2014 > Godzilla vs, Kong >>>>>> King of Monsters

Watched Kong vs Godzilla and yea the final 30 min was pretty good but everything leading up to it was boring. Just feels like some Bayformers movie when its all said n done. Similar to King of Monsters. Those transformers films were much more ambitious tho.

The problem with human part of these films is they introduce way too many characters. Its hard to give a shit about all of them.

I still think Skull Island is the best of these films because it had that cozy 60s and mysterious Jurassic Park feel to it. And the Marvel cast was above average too compared to the usual.

I remember enjoying that last one with stupid 3D effects and everything. Or that may have been the one b4.

But yea there is only so much you can do with that type of idea before you run it into the ground. It was good for what it was.

The plane stuff in the first one was great.

Godzilla vs Kong, saw it the other day and well, I made a review, it's quite lenghty so I'm sorry in advance and thanks for your time.

Godzilla vs Kong, the 2x1 of Legendary Pictures.

Year 2021 of our lord Godzilla, the "monster-verse" reaches its zenith with the confrontation between the two most famous titans in the world, the Japanese Godzilla and the American King Kong, a confrontation that already took place in 1962, and one of the most recognizable Kaiju Eiga villains of all, Mechagodzilla, who already had his own film in 1974, but, what exactly is this movie then?

Well, to describe it properly I have to make two parallel explanations, the simplest would be that it is the continuation of what had been made clear in 2019's "King of the Monsters" where Godzilla was left as undisputed king of all the titans after having finished with Ghidorah so the film happens at some point in the near future to this confrontation.

On the other hand, the second parallel explanation would be that this is a mix between the two Showa era classics of Kaiju Eiga, the film picks up the central plot lines of the two classics and leaves them as intact as it can but adapting it to the context of the post Ghidorah world and with Legendary's lore, does it get it right? Definitely, if by any chance you have seen the originals and remember them I assure you that you will not fail to see constant homages to both films, from very simple things like the tree in the mouth to a slight modification of the birth of Mechagodzilla but retaining the sci-fi aesthetics that had the original (for those who do not know how it is born in the original, in the 1974 film an alien race of humanoids arrives on earth in order to conquer it but to do so they have to kill their most powerful protector so they decide to make a mechanical copy of it in order to hit each other).

Having done a little exposition of the past, what does this film present us with? The film takes place several years after Godzilla's proclamation as king of the monsters and ally of mankind, however other titans have prostrated before Godzilla or have perished, all except Kong who remains on Skull Island under observation by Monarch although Kong is not happy with his containment, the reason for this situation? Both Godzilla and Kong are the alphas and do not kneel to each other. At the same time Godzilla seems to have an erratic behavior by attacking a facility of Apex Industries (a new technological company that appears in this film and is founded after the previous one) to stop Godzilla we have a new Macguffin that will be the central axis of the film and the one that will take the script as far as it wants to take it, that is, to the confrontation between the ape and the lizard (and someone else, of course).

In case it has not been clear by using the word Macguffin, what I mean is that the script is a scaffolding that allows the characters to get from point A to B and then to C without much thought, there is no real character building, the bad guy is bad because he is bad, the good guys are good because they are good, we need this object because now it is important but not before and so on, the difference is that, even being a script as poor as the previous film, where one took itself too seriously, this one knows perfectly well where it is and what its mission is, to see how two bugs hit each other, does it achieve its goal? Yes, effectively because the whole visual section is spectacular but at the plot level is simpler than the operation of a jug, it is not bad per se, it is simply a movie to disconnect but it is not a masterpiece nor does it pretend to be.

Where we are going to notice this weak script is, again, in the human characters, characters that are flat as an ironing board, whose motivations are a sovereign nonsense and whose actions are, at least, questionable, one comes to wonder if Godzilla or Kong are smarter than these humans because really, some of them are. At least the movie has the decency not to put in romantic subplots, family dramas (like the previous one) or great intellectual grandiloquence, au contraire, the movie not only relegates them to the background but mocks the heroic actions of these characters who think they can make a difference, no hominid friend, your role while two titans of the ancient era and a mecha armed to the teeth are beating the crap out of each other is not to be the hero, it's to watch from a distance and pray you don't get crushed by a helmet or the foot of one of the critters, if anything to be just another Macguffin from time to time.

However there is a character that stands out above all but for good, Jia, the girl who has the link with Kong, in the same way Mothra had the sisters as a connection with humans, Jia is the same for Kong, a deaf mute girl who communicates with him through signs and seems to be the only character not only not stupid but who knows what his role in all this is, Jia butt, you really know!

Fortunately, to get rid of the bad taste in the mouth of the parts concerning humans we have the audiovisual part with everything concerning the monsters and the science fiction elements.

Let's start with the most "boring" part of this section, without going into too much detail, at the beginning of this text I mentioned who were the creators of the original mechagodzilla in 1974, obviously in this film there are no aliens trying to invade the earth, however we have two fantastic elements, on the one hand the two corporations that appear, Monarch and Apex, if in the previous film we already saw technological advances of the repanocha, here is already the festival of sci-fi and futurism, the film in wanting to have a "pop" aesthetic or more specifically one that is pleasing to the Asian market (as they are the audience to which they want to go) we will see not only technology that would be years away (and here they already have it perfectly established and normalized) but we will also see something that I personally love and fascinates me, the megastructures.

We could already see some in the previous film but here there is a lot of emphasis on how big are these metal mastodons created by man, structures of impossible proportions with a style that we could say that is a revisionism of industrialism of the mid-20th century but with all the modernity that would have today, absolute fan of this section, you will see it with your eyes if you see the film or if you have already seen it you will know what I mean.

On the other hand we have the most expected and why we have come here, as Hulk would say, IT'S TIME FOR THE FIGHT!

Although not as spectacular as seeing a lizard in thermonuclear reactor mode and a three-headed dragon creating electrical storms, the fights are spectacular and much more agile (which I have to comment) and dynamic, Kong will not have powers or special abilities with natural elements but he has intelligence and the power to use tools and make strategies which makes these fights much more fun and different from what we have seen before, again, we are talking about an ape and not a mountain, his mobility allows him to do things that other titans can't, then we have mechagodzilla who, well, simply a machine that has missiles up to his right shoulder, that looks like a kinder surprise, you don't know what you're going to get.

The destruction they cause is at the same level as the previous ones but with a point in favor, it has moments of day and night so we can enjoy many spectacular moments in both cases, in the day because the action is much clearer while at night the neon of the buildings gives us very colorful prints worthy of people like Michael Bay.

However all the good that brings this section also has a side that is possibly the one that bothers me most personally and is that both Godzilla, Kong and Mechagodzilla are winners of the featherweight category, how? You may ask, well, this is something that has been disappearing with the passage of the films of this universe of monsters.

If you remember the first film of this saga, Godzilla (2014), there was a lot of emphasis on a detail by G. Edward, the perspective always from human points of view to highlight the scale and strength of these creatures, from a simple foot to being able to see the titans from the rooftops but always from the perspective of a human, in Kong we have this same to a large extent except in the final fight (first time we lose this perspective) and in "King of the Monsters" except for a few scenes, this perspective is completely lost with what the scale was lost but surprisingly the speed and feeling of forcefulness of each blow and each step was still maintained, remember that they are bugs the size of mountains that are fighting in the middle of our cities, their weight is immense and the effort to take each step is proportional to this, in Godzilla vs Kong this has been completely lost and gives a strange feeling when watching them fight or simply move on land.

Creatures of hundreds of thousands of tons simply can not move with the speed at which they move in this film, I personally call that the "Pacific Rim syndrome" where the first installment had these simple rules of shots from perspectives where the scale is highlighted and each movement had a sense of weight but in the sequel the camera was free or from distant shots and movements were at the speed of a human, with some bugs this is fine but with mastodons is very rare and very unreal (within the context of fantasy that we are seeing, This is by far the most negative point I have to take from it because it is a trend I am seeing a lot in order to please very specific markets (in fact with Pacific Rim the producers themselves confirmed it, the changes to certain colors and certain shots are more liked in some regions than in others) but apart from that, the action is very well done and is very entertaining.

I think it's about time to finish these quick impressions of the film, in general terms I was very excited to see how they have merged two classic films and have added their own background, at the level of script and characters is an ironing board of how flat everything is and we ignore the fact that there are Macguffins to give and give away, however it is very consistent with what it aims to be and its relaxed nature, it does not take itself seriously and that makes it much more enjoyable than the previous one at the level of tone.

Although before this review I put it as the best movie of the monster-verse, I have decided to consider them individually because each film has a completely different tone and honestly, I do not feel like making a ranking.

In short, movie to disconnect and a visual and sound delight, the monsters are very well represented, full of winks to the past and positioning for the future of the saga if Toho decides to extend the collaboration with Legendary (which seems likely if the economic results continue to go) so I can say without problem that I really liked it and is highly recommended to see relaxing to disconnect.

Long live the king. :cat-heart-blob:

I watched Grave of the fireflies and it was not as good as I thought it was. It's not bad by any means but I thought it was going to be a bit different. The part that was the "hardest for me to watch" was the looting part.

So yeah, so what were the red rashes?

Yeah that should be fixed. The nice thing about WoT is that the book series is finished so they can cull out the stuff that doesn't really need to be there.

Yeah I just finished the WoT for the first time.
Started it in the early 2000s (I think). Stopped somewhere in the middle of the series and restarted it in the last year.

The showrunner already announced that there will be changes to e.g. the romances.
As Easlye said they will be cutting/changing/adding stuff where needed for the TV adaption.

Amazon Prime released some small teasers over the last months which include some changes to the book (spoilers):

I watched the Godzilla vs Kong movie and I was pretty disappointed. I liked the other two much more. There are just too many stupid decisions about this movie, like for example everything that happens to the girl from Stranger Things and her party is completely irrelevant to the rest of the movie, they are there to just fill up the screen time. The pacing was pretty bad. Where does the light source in the center of the Earth comes from? It's never explained.

New Zealand is the one that is giving over $100 million to Amazon.
This feels even more obscene given the country's size and relative GDP but thank you for the correction. I never really liked subsidies to large companies, this is no exception.

The LOTR show sounds like it gonna be incredible. I haven't paid any attention to it and what story they are gonna exactly cover but a billion is insane.

I'm sure a lot of that money is the start up cost + resources and it will bleed over into 2nd season etc.

I really hope they have a lot of episodes in season 1 and no less than 60 min each.

Also Amazon better release all the episodes at once. No waiting every week bs pls.

$600million for season 1 is an insanely huge budget, I'm sure it will show on screen. (Lets hope the show is good though), I am interested to see what that brings though.
I can understand New Zealand paying that, it keeps the show there (apparently the biggest revenue for the country) as Amazon was going to film in Scotland and lets be honest every country does this. There are whole conventions and events held to promote the film industry to shoot in their own countries by giving them tax breaks and incentives, eg: "Ukraine launched a new 25-30% incentive offer in November last year. This put it on a par with neighboring countries including Poland, which introduced a 30% incentive in early 2019, and Slovakia, which upped its incentive to 33% this year. Japan also announced a pilot filming incentive last year, its first national scheme, offering up to 20% of production costs to large-scale overseas TV and film project".-2019 quote

Shows are getting so expensive:
Wandavision costing $25million an episode
Mandalorian costing $15million an episode
Obviously Game of Thrones final season also $15million an episode
Expanse is $3-5million an episode (not bad)

I'm sure a lot of that money is the start up cost + resources and it will bleed over into 2nd season etc.

Remember $250mill was for the rights to lotr, cost will be more $650mill for the season, not including marketing (no budget includes that unless stated).

Season 1 is 10 episodes it seems.

A few shows have been released weekly on Amazon so I would imagine they would want to draw it out.

Finished the docu series about Q and wow that was some crazy shit! So immensely fascinating and shed light on just how cullible and easily manipulated the real world is, and it does even need intricate conspiracy by shadowy cabals, it just show that no matter who in whatever position of power, most of the people on this planet don't know anything and just do the whole "fake it till you make it".

The Mitchells vs. Machines movie is really nice so far.
I'm still early in it but I had a good laugh and it has some 'd'awwww' moments.

The Line of Duty season finale was extremely disappointing. I don't understand what they were going for. Jed Mercurio is such a master of doing suspenseful TV shows with great payoffs, but this season finale had no strengths. What a shame ...

Finished Season 4 of The Expanse, I dunno, I liked the earlier seasons better, hopefully 5 improves.

I think the book that season 4 is based on is regarded as the worst of the series. But I may be incorrect...
