I would never, ever click on something like this, and that's speaking as someone who's more of a game enthusiast than the average person. I've always found this idea that a store should advertise for its products to be weird. It's nice, I guess, if it works, because the products and the store make money, and maybe customers found something interesting. But really, I learn about products and services from others, word of mouth, ads, articles, and FOMO. Not from going to a store, whether it's Steam, Amazon, or an IRL store like Target. It just all comes back to there are more games than available time and attention in the world.
Oh definitely, I think a hypothetical button/system would be better an optional experiment rather a full-fledged tool. I imagine the vast majority of folks have no interest in seeing games completely outside of what they usually play/purchase/etc. (What Wok shared earlier about SteamDB is interesting and I think it could indirectly back up this point). I just think it would just be interesting to see folks interact with such a purposefully "bad" system and what could be learned (Who opted to try the "bad" system; Did they actually wishlist/follow/buy something recommended; etc.). The topic of "algorithms" has increasingly become a point of contention for folks, but I think some of the disdain is misplaced, or at least, unexamined. Having some experiments could be interesting to kickstart the discussion a different direction than what it has been trending the past few years.

Also I do agree, I think developers and/or publishers can sometimes have a large ask of platforms to advertise their products in a way that checks all the boxes they want checked.

Speaking of which, give Dyson Sphere Program a try if you like factory games. I've put in several hours already (based on word of mouth here), and if you like Factorio, this is similar. I'm still struggling with my automation on one corner of a planet, and it's hard to imagine ever being able to build a Dyson sphere. The scope is just awesome.
I actually picked this up a bit ago, but lost my desk setup to play it until recently. Do you think it feels really early access and/or is it better to wait a bit for updates before hopping in?

Bought Valheim couple days a go and already clocked 13hrs in it.

I rarely buy Early Access games but I gotta admit this one is legit. Really well designed and ambitious asf.

Its basically The Forest but a lot less tedious and more adventurous + fun + relaxing. And yet still challenging with some good bosses/enemies. Kind of the dream survival game with neat Viking setting. Love the art style too. Its like some low rez and/or unfinished pixelated mesh. Things in the distance look beautiful with blur.

I see why the game blew up so big early in the year. Well deserved.

Was listening to some FFXIV music before going to sleep last night. When an add for The World Ends With You ad. No EGS logo that I could see, although could have been hidden by the skip ad button, which would be hilarious

looking further into it, I didn’t even realise that the game releases later on PC. So another case of the EGS money being well spent and helping pc developers.

it amazes me to this day that EGS seems to actively hinder discoverability.

For some reason I see people complaining that there are no RPGs coming out anytime soon, but they are so wrong. It's like they don't know any RPG developers outside of Bethesda, Bioware and Obsidian. There are so many RPGs coming out either this year or next:
  • King's Bounty II

The list would be waaaaaay longer if you include JRPG. In fact I would say there are too many RPGs coming soon.

This kind of sneaked up on me but I ended up watching a documentary on MOHAA and the soundtrack is really, really better than I recalled. [UWSL]Michael Giacchino[/UWSL] was an amazing find, especially when you consider the rest of his career.

Considering to pick up some more titles, but the july lineup is really nice so not sure. My eyes are on Death's Door, Last Stop, The Ascent, Cris Tales, Tribes of Midgard, Fuga: Melodies of Steel and Boomerang X atm.

Oh dear, time for a Sunday Confession.
I just looked at my "[UWSL]Wall of Shame v1[/UWSL]" on Steam which is the list of things i've [UWSL]purchased from Steam[/UWSL] itself and i went a bit mad in June it seems. Though a lot of these games were cheap-as-chips so it's a lot better than it looks. It's also confirmed that i am continuing my trend of not being a mainstream AAA Console Focused gamer as many of these games wouldn't even get a look-in on some sites. Which is nice.

  • Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous
  • Gamedec
  • Baldur's Gate 3 (full version)
  • Black Geyser
  • Disciples: Liberation
  • King's Bounty II
  • Encased
  • Expeditions: Rome
  • Colony Ship
Plus Starfield assuming it doesn't get delayed.
Those are cRPGs and mostly on PC so they don't count for the people complaining, which I find absolutely hilarious since PC cRPGs are THE RPGs, the fathers of the entire RPG genre. As someone who adores turn-based cRPGs I have this to say: :coffee-blob::coffee-blob::coffee-blob:

I wouldn't label Disciples, King's Bounty or Expeditions as cRPG, more like TB Strategy games with some minor rpg mechanics, similar to HoMM, but I agree with the general sentiment of your post, unless it's on console and has some sort of japanese influence the general public discards these games as non-rpgs, which is extra hilarious considering how jrpgs don't fit the rpg genre at all but that's a whole new can of worms.

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with experimenting, and it would be interesting to see how many people would try something new. My guess is that indie devs would complain that Steam's recommendations are not including them. ;)

As for Dyson Sphere, it feels fully cooked. I can't say if performace will eventually tank because I'm still early game, but there isn't much on the Steam community about that other than the save file can get huge (no cloud saves, beware). There's one branch of the research tree that is grayed out and marked for the future. I think there are some quality of life things that could be done, but nothing too annoying or game breaking. The tutorial is barebones, and it took a while to figure out what to do. It's really kind of hard to believe this is a $20 (US) early access game.

yeah, pretty much all of this :)

and the performance DOES tank ... but not until you automate like 80% of the planet's surface :p
