I gotta say, this sounds way more interesting that I first thought it would be.
That's...kinda of interesting. Downloading saves has been around forever, but downloading mid-game saves is slightly weird to me.

Whatever the streaming tech ends up being is the most important. I like watching streamers, but I can't imagine what situation there would be where I would want to play with one (they'd just clap me), or situations in which they'd want to play with you.

That "buzz" makes no sense to me... those things are already definitely possible on Twitch, either with the Twitch platform or Steam. The logistics would require the same effort they would require on an entirely new console. Removal of loading screens would be dependent on the software itself as much as the console and so would also be possible on another platform. Google also has had some cool ideas with their hardware and materials over the years but they're also very abandon-prone.

If their main points are things that are already done in some games already, I don't know why they would invest into a market (consoles) where the main product (hardware) typically loses money.

So in theory, I can understand what's intriguing about seamless integration into shared, community events. If a streamer wants to play with their "community" it can be something of a pain to actually get that set up in an orderly fashion, as hundreds of people spam them with duo/group requests. The only time you have a chance in hell to actually get to play with a streamer is if their audience is less than 200. Anything over than that is pure chaos. So a platform integrating some kind of very practical system that say, queues you into a lobby and selects you to play with the streamer might be helpful to them.

But in practical terms, what games does would this even work with? Hitting a button to queue into your favorite streamer's BR game doesn't work, because no streamer wants you ghosting them. Hitting a button to queue into your favorite streamer's MOBA doesn't work, because no streamer wants you ghosting them. I guess co-op games like The Division or Sea of Thieves might be worthwhile, but beyond that? Eh.

And like you kind of addressed, even if these things aren't possible in the exact way that Google is supposedly going to show, they don't sound like revolutionary ideas. They sound like mildly neat features sure, but nothing that would be beyond the reach of Sony. MS, Valve or even Nintendo (okay, maybe Nintendo couldn't figure it out tbh) to implement in their next console.

In the end it all sounds super Google-esque to me so far. These are features that are going to demo well in a press conference, and show well to the "tech press," but end up almost wholly useless to the end user.

Like I said, the most important part here is the streaming tech, and after that, whatever the hardware ends up being (e.g., portable and a Switch killer?); if it has any exclusive games; and possibly the software (e.g., anything cutting edge in terms of neural network and algorithmic stuff?). That's way more important than some dorky-ass streamer features that most streamers probably wouldn't use anyways.

Whatre the advantages of dlss over say ssgss anti aliasing?
Theoretically, DLSS will provide better performance than SGSSAA if you have a performance target of 60fps or below. Personally, I still think SGSSAA is the best solution since I think DLSS is too "soft" for my liking (also I target 120+ fps whenever I can) so. :steam_pigblanket:

Haha not to say Tencent will lead to EGS kind of problems but here I was thinking that since I deleted my Epic account I need to at some point learn a new engine and was thinking about Unity. I was always Unreal Engine>Unity kind of guy.

With that said, think I look more into Godot! Seems great!

Sadly, for my reason to learn real time engine is for photography projects and I still think Unreal Engine is where it's at, just looking how much it's used in video production.

Unity hasn't been bad for years now ... and it's always been VASTLY superior to unread on the scripting side - C# FTW ;)

I heard a lot about Godot, been interesting to learn that engine so much that I bought two courses. Both are by GDQuest which has really great tutorials both free and paid.
Still haven't started to learn Godot yet :(

If Unity has partnered with Tencent, would it mean that in the future we will have a Unity Game Store too? :p

i hope not :p

Yeah seems quite good now, was very impressed with the flying cars and future city demo they had recently!
yeah, those are great! :)

Godot also has support for C#!

yeah, but it's open-source .... probably gonna take like a decade or so to reach an acceptable level really

Despite open source it's still great tool for game development, at least what I have seen. The Godot team even have a full time developer.

But I still haven't seen any great game coming from Godot engine yet. At least I haven't heard of any

yeah, that's what i'm talking about ... i'm sure it's more than fine for some simple games ... but if you want to do something that looks really good - you're not gonna use godot ... sadly

Right silly question here folks, so I got my new 1440p monitor with Freesync (GSync compatible) and I absolutely adore it, best purchase I've made in years. So I was wondering with VSync, do you keep it off in game and turn it on at the driver level or keep it off both at driver level and ingame ? Wasn't too sure the the best way of doing it.

Though they added 3D just recently so it's fully able to make games that look current, maybe not AAA current but I think most Indies would be able to use Godot for their projects just fine.

Like here's a demo they released with 3.0

Hmm reason I ask is because now that RTX tech is being brought to GTX 10 laptops, I was hoping DLSS was included with them as well.
That way I can get me a new laptop with a 1070 (for example)+1440p 144 Hz screen

Assuming Freesync/gsync compatible works the same as straight Gsync, you want vsync on at the driver level (in the control panel) and vsync off in the game. It's also a good idea to limit the framerate to just under the screen max rate to avoid input lag. I use RTSS to limit it to 3fps under max.

For others I mentioned compilations of their Saturn and 8-bit system games, which encompasses games like Dynamite Cop, Virtua Cop, etc.
yeah, i wish they'd do compilations as well ... like Saturn Collection or something ... or even release those games one by one ... hell, i'd even take 1:1 ports tbh ... just to have those games available digitally

Licensed stuff not being on can be excused, though if they could do like what they did Outrun on 3DS, by editting the Ferrari emblem, they could apply that to some of their older titles to avoid any licensing issues.

For example, aside from Virtua Fighter 1 and Star Wars Arcade, there were 2 Model 1 arcade games were Wing War and Virtua Racing. Making these available on modern systems and Steam helps in their preservation, but SEGA can't expect every person interested in their titles to get them, so why not include them as part of a compilation of:
Virtua Fighter 1, VF2, Wing War & Virtua Racing
Name it SEGA Arcade Classics Vol. #, then have VF3, 4 and 5 all in another compilation titled VF Collection.

Just some ideas :V

Of interest is the animation in this ye olde SEGA beat'em-up game

I usually keep bothering SEGA on twitter, trying to get them to release their Arcade games that never received PC/Console ports (Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder, ...), so in the "others" field, I ended up putting ESWAT.
I would love to see a revival of the series, as a metroidvania title. Imagine playing through a 2D city, trying to apprehend certain targets (bosses), while powering up your cyber suit. (y)

I just realized that I haven't been playing games for over a week already. It seems all this bad news about Epic motivated me to do other things instead. Not sure this will improve the next few days, I expect many EGS exclusives being announced at GDC. Competition is such a wonderful thing! ☺

Probably not most truly "big" games but rather big indies or smaller publisher games. The moneyhats are the driving reason for the shift, not the Epic Store features and lower fee so far and big companies are surely harder to moneyhat. Metro/Division are the exception rather than the norm for now (and I guess Metro isn't really of Division's caliber either, but still bigger than most others). Sucks I'm more interested in these games than AAA stuff of course.

There's still so much stuff coming out on Steam (and there's plenty of games already available), I'm sure you won't struggle to find games to spend your money on. :)
There are whole genres that Epic has shown no interest in. For example, there's so many cool looking point and click adventure games coming out this year, and so far, Epic has completely ignored the genre.

I'm honestly not too worried about Epic. The first announcements were a bit of a bummer, and that Phoenix Point crap was appalling (not only because of the broken promises, but the developer's insistence on forcing everyone to the Epic client, by not even providing a download outside of the platform), but outside of this, there's no much they can do further that will make me upset. And nothing they can do will make me use their client.
The only thing I'm interested is in having some clarification on some of the games I crowdfunded (Shenmue 3, Bloodstained, Psychonauts 2, Knights and Bikes, ...), so I can act accordingly, if any are announced as exclusive, and no alternatives are provided.

Ok, you should really stop worrying too much about is this or that is going to be EGS exclusive, if it's going to happen it will happen and EGS exclusivities are just 12 months long, who the fuck cares, I bet you all have huge backlogs and can wait 365 days and then play it wherever you want, again, the store will fail if no one buys games there and it's a model that won't last forever if there isn't benefits, but flooding forums, social media and all this kind of places with the "is this going to be an EGS exclusive?" isn't helping much and, in fact, is making some of us just ignore all the possible media.

As for what we have already seeing from them, rest assure that they made sure I will never use their service AT ALL. Do you think gamers are the only ones who are tired of this? ask the third party authorized sellers owners who are watching how their business is getting attacked, support the ones you consider deserve your money and just ignore the rest, but stop worrying, you are not enjoying gaming at all, play some games.

This is a truly sincere opinion here.

Yeah I'm not worried about that at all. I've already been buying ar least a dozen of games this year that I still need to play, and there are over a hundred games on my wishlist on Steam.

But these moneyhats still seem to have an impact on my enthusiasm to play games somehow. Perhaps this is because I can't look forward to upcoming games from my favorite developers anymore, because they will likely be moneyhatted by Epic anyway.

On the other hand, this is a great opportunity to discover new devs and genres. And that's something to look forward to as well.
support the ones you consider deserve your money and just ignore the rest, but stop worrying, you are not enjoying gaming at all, play some games.
This is some great advice! (y)
