I expect the concern trolling about the Deck's performance in games to be through the roof. And it's going to primarily come from the games bloggers and players who otherwise happily play games on the Switch at 462p between 15-22fps, with the rare game that reaches the magical 'rock solid' 30fps performance target. Fuck these trolls honestly.

The usual suspects are already getting defensive about Steam Deck’s impact on Switch.

Perfect for Steam Dick?

I am so sorry, I should have resisted but couldn't. I should no better being this close to 50

So, decided to ignore all the Steam Deck pre-orders. Wake up and it looks like the earliest I could get the highest spec even if I could afford it is around this time next year.

Oh and I am not really sorry.

While everyone was here trying to get a preorder chance for the Deck I decided to check the availability of the 3070/80 here ( I don't like preordering hardware).
And while I could get one shipped by monday ,,, the pricing is still through the roof :negative-blob: The cheapest 3070 is more expensive than the 3080 MSRP.

The Steam Deck M2 SSD is not easily upgradeable, it's a M2 2230 slot, SSDs of this type are usually not available for sale.

You can order them quite easily, but it's also apparently hard to access the slot on the Steam Deck without disassembling it significantly.
Yeah, opening up an embedded device to the point of having to remove a heat shield is not something that's easily done and you are likely to break something.
Even if you don't ,if you mess up the reassembly the device could potentially run worse if heat is not getting dissipated properly. And that's not even mentioning losing the warranty.
That's not worth saving 100€, imo.

Been really busy irl so I keep forgetting to visit the forum, but damn steamdeck looks hella promising.
Saw Lashman's tweet and looks like everyone's getting into it.
Hope to see it soon in my country as well.

Aside steamdeck, did I miss anything cool?
Have you met Mona? She's an AI robot that recently invaded joined the Meta family. She makes it easier to do giveaways.

You'll like her, she's pretty cool!

Stuff like L4D2 was being updated right? Did that game always have LAN support? And are we getting L4D3 with local AD-hoc style multiplayer?
Yes, Lan was always there, you already can create a hotspot on one device and connect another wifi device and play multiplayer games over Lan, if the game supports Lan.

From the one or two comments from other people i've seen Timbo seems happy about it but i haven't gone looking tbh. Probably more info in one of the Epic threads.

Someone should ask Timmy if valve can have their 30% now? Or maybe it doesn’t count when steam deck isn’t a closed system like the consoles.
He'll just shift goal posts further. All Timmy cares about is getting more money. If he believed there was a way of getting more money from consoles and avoid that fee, he'd be against them too.

In case anyone is curios and remembers, i can by now confirm that the Microsft Games User Research i posted about in the past, is entirely legitimate, as i have just finished participating in the project i was invited to.

Now waiting for the moola

My memory is a bit fuzzy, but I remember some testimony from the Apple trial where one of the reasons 30% is supposedly okay for consoles is because they do a lot of promotion for Fortnite. In reality, around 80% of that game's revenue comes from consoles and Tim isn't going to bite the hand that feeds him.

So basically the Steam Deck is already "sold out" until next year. You can still be added to the queue but you are now looking at Q3 2022!!!!!

It's possible that Valve could make a lot more but they want to do a small number at first too see what people actually think about it, we are at the part where people want one but what about after they get it? Will those without one still want one?

Which makes me wonder about other regions, yes they will add other regions and stuff but seeing how this is already back up to Q3 where will the stock for the new regions come from?

As for Nippon, one if the criticism seem to be about the size and how it's "American sizes" things in Japan tend to be smaller for a number of reasons (look at manga, it comes form Japan and by standard they come in a small physical size but in the west manga are physically a lot larger.
