I reckon SteamDeck reservations will go crazy now they're soon to be open to "the general public", which is suppose are new accounts, accounts in low standing or who haven't sponsored St. Gabe's PC Gaming Rescue Centre very much?

Of course, the delivery is still a long way ahead so some people will drop their orders to try to get a different model etc. So i expect a fair bit of shuffling between now and release.

Nice try Excalibur but those are Rookie numbers!
The Japanese have had a trend of a game names describing the game plot for a while now giving us this beauty on PS4.
Summer-Colored High School Adolescent Record – A Summer At School On An Island Where I Contemplate How The First Day After I Transferred, I Ran Into A Childhood Friend And Was Forced To Join The Journalism Club Where While My Days As A Paparazzi Kid With Great Scoops Made Me Rather Popular Among The Girls, But Strangely My Camera Is Full Of Panty Shots, And Where My Candid Romance Is Going.
It's like the West isn't even trying when the best we have is:
Cthulhu Saves the World: Super Hyper Enhanced Championship Edition Alpha Diamond DX Plus Alpha FES HD – Premium Enhanced Game of the Year Collector’s Edition (without Avatars!)
Then Zeboyd wimped out and changed it back to "Cthulhu Saves the World". smdh. They did get Guinness World Record for longest English name for a while tho.

Though i suppose it's different as Excalibur and others as putting genre tags in their titles not the plot.

edit: I can't wait for the title of Nene from Hololive's game... tee hee hee.

No idea, i don't think it's been released in english so i wouldn't be able to read it anyway and i don't think anyone has reviewed it they just make articles about the name. I just remember it because the name was the longest actually published game name.

This feels like one of those things you keep quiet about until after you've gone to Valve because you're just going to give troll devs and anti-steam types ammo for how bad basic search functionality is.
I wouldn't say the search functionality / algorithm is doing anything wrong in this case -- search should match against game titles first, otherwise you get stuff like developers not being able to find their own games on PSN.

This is something that's probably best fixed by banning titles designed to abuse it.

Just browsed some famous ‘jailbreaking’ blog. Not a peep about Steam Deck.
You would think after years of crying about closed hardwares they would welcome an open handheld with open arms.

It's chicken and egg situation. Reason why console manufacturers are able to pump out millions of consoles per year is because they intend to produce that much from the start. Valve got burned before so they didn't went and ordered 10m units for first year. That will save them money at the beginning but it can hurt them in the long run because people won't wait for a year to get it. They should have been more confident in their product because i have feeling that it will kinda bit them in the ass.

First year was always going to be a crapshoot. Just like with new GPUs, PS5, XBoxXS there are too many issues with easily finding things now.

With all chip shortages I doubt AMD was offering Valve some billion dollar deal to mass produce this stuff off the bat. Its a very small deal to test the waters.

Valve also never really done anything like this before. Its their first attempt at handheld so its no chance they can sell 30 million of these in a year like Nintendo is doing now. I think after first year Valve will have good idea of what to do. They can mass produce to push it to retailers with pricecuts or kill the product all together. If the product is good it will continue selling long after first year but the 500 and 600$ products are never gonna be big sellers regardless. The low end model has some potential after a revision in my opinion and they could push a couple dozen million of them like Ninty is doing with Switch Lite.

Was there any other way for this to go down? There's the fact that Valve didn't know how much demand there will be, there's the chip shortage that will make everything worse, and then you have this increasing trend of scalping.
I think given all these factors, what Valve did is probably the smartest choice, getting the device in the hands of those in "core" markets as quickly as they can. Clearly the end goal is having the device available in all regions in the world, and I assume they will get there in a gradual way, perhaps expanding the reservation process in the coming months as they can better plan the production numbers. If you know how many people want it in US, Canada, UK and EU, then you can start to anticipate demand in other countries too.

I'm glad I don't have the disposable income for a Steam Deck, I guess. In a few months, I should have a lot, lot more... And hopefully I won't have to worry about job hunting being a fruitless, soul-crushing endeavor ever again.

Getting back into Halo 3... I'm starting to see some of the fuss. The greater emphasis on moments where there's vehicles abount, or when you have squads of AI companions with you, makes it stand out much more than the first two games, which mainly felt like they were trying to be Quake or Unreal while not grasping any of the elements that made those games fun.
Granted, Halo 3 does still feel like that. Everything, from the player's capabilities, the level design, the weapons, all still don't come together to make for what I'd call a solid single-player shooter. It's just that it spends less time as "just" a shooter.

i am totally not breaking my tables over the fact that this happened before it dropped literally everywhere else

Someone should ask Gaben how does it feel being a New Zealand resident and incapable of reserving a Deck, if he's not Valve's CEO. :flare_lmao:

Kidding aside, screw us with 10+ years Steam account who can't order a Deck when scalpers can potentially get it before we do.

I do wonder if the queue system significantly diminishes the appetite to buy from a scalper. It's one thing for it to be sold out everywhere, but here people can at least get their reservation in and not have to think about it anymore.

It's still really unfortunate for people living in countries where it's not available.

I've watched like 20 videos regarding similar products to the Steam Deck, and now I NEED one ASAP 😭. The sole idea of playing Elden Ring and then emulating PS2, Switch, WiiU and PS3 games sounds like gaming Nirvana. Too bad Valve doesn't ship to third world countries like mine :cryblob:.

By the way, Vantr thank you for Yakuza Kiwami 2, I've been wanting to play that game for years. You're the best :blobhug:

I played Jump Force for the first time and it's actually a fun game so I might pick it up at some point when it's on sale for cheap again along with all the DLC characters.

Have they mentioned if they are still working on more DLC for the game? I think the last DLC for the game release in February of this year.
