Control was one of my favourite games of last year. The location and files made sense in the beurocratic type setting. However in this day and age I wish they could find a better way to do some of these files.

However I am a fan of things like the SCP Foundation stuff, Charles Stross Laundry Files books and cosmic horror in general.

I still think you should get the flight powers a lot earlier.

I do agree with the weapons and upgrade system. It was a bit too random for my taste.

I should love SCP, but it's so big. I loved one of the first file with the Hell Factory. Very reminiscent of Clive Barker at times.

Give this a try.

A short story by Charles Stross. Alt history. What would happen if the cold war had the likes of Cthulhu and Nyalarthotep instead of nukes. It's about a 10 minute read.

You will have to excuse the way I have linked it. My phone isn't letting me use the formatting options.

Edit: of it auto formats as well

Psychonauts 2 is great. It is pretty much what Psychonauts 1 would have been if it were made these days. Contrary to others, I am not too fond of playing Psychonauts 1 nowadays, because the camera is wonky and there were graphical glitches when I last tried on PC. I would skip straight to Psychonauts 2 if I had not played the first one on PS2 back in the old days. Or hope for a remaster of Psychonauts 1 with the engine of Psychonauts 2.

Hard disagree. I really fell in love with the games setting, and the background lore in the documents you pickup felt very well done to me. Highly subjective, of course, and I can see how if you are not interested in the setting, the oldest house and the secret agency thing to much, how it could be fairly boring.
I also really liked the simple look of the oldest house and it's brutalist architecture, combined with the very old fashioned look and feel of everything. A bit of a side note, but the recent MCU show Loki also really reminds of that with the TVA.

I will say that it took a while for me to get into the game's combat, as it really only shines when you have all the combat abilities available.
I really enjoyed Control, but I think it suffers from not enough environment variety. Walking constantly through corridors of the oldest house became tedious after about 15 hours for me.

I have been playing using xCloud. Instant start, no suttering, just perfect.
Some of us dont want to rely on the Internet to play games, servers being up, don't like a lot of latency or blurry IQ. ;)

You know, the anthithesis of PC gaming.

Sure. I was just reporting my personal experience, which is that I have better quality of life with Game Pass + xCloud than with any other solution on PC.

As for your list of issues with cloud gaming:
  • rely on the Internet to play games: cannot track playtime or unlock achievements without Internet,
  • servers being up: never encountered servers being down so far,
  • a lot of latency: never encountered that while playing Psychonauts 2 on xCloud,
  • blurry IQ: not once with xCloud so far (though it happened with Geforce Now).
Maybe I am very lucky. :toucan:

As for the pros:
  • no fan noise. More seriously, I am confident electricity consumption at home is reduced, and hopeful there is less energy consumed overall,
  • no download before I could start a game. That means I can try NBA 2K21, or other sports or racing games without feeling bad for downloading 100 GB.

I too hope Double Fine can go back to the first game and remaster it. There's a great game in there, but some tweaks on the UI and some movement sets would help a lot.
With Microsoft behind them, hopefully we will see Psychonauts turn into a real franchise. I feel like the setting allows for nearly limitless new ideas to be explored.
Lol, Psychonauts 2 is stuttering for a lot of people it seems on DX12. The game pass version cannot be changed to dx11, only Steam and GOG.

Game pass PC keeps on winning. :p
How do you change this? I didn't see a DX11 option in the game.

Weird question. You can be a PC gamer without primarily using Steam just fine. It's all about options and "where do you play your PC games" is just another one ¯\(ツ)
Sure, just find it a bit odd if someone were active in a thread for service they dont really use, but that's just me. No biggie.

Like, xCloud is more like console than PC imo. Using GOG and Battlenet is different to xCloud imo.

My limited experience with GamePass PC was very good. I played Gears of War 4 and 5 splitscreen last year, and there was no problem at all. Maybe because both games are very optimized for PC?

Sucks to those who encounter problems when using it though. Hopefully MS can smoothen them out asap.

Should just be able to add -dx11 as a launch option in steam.

Yeah I must admit. I am also one of the lucky ones never had one second of problems, always shocks me when I see how bad some people get it.
Touch wood...

You definitely don't need to play 1 to enjoy 2 as it is a self contained story, but like anything you miss out on the history of certain characters, lots of the little nods that someone new will just think "ok?" but an old player will think "wow that's awesome". I suppose it's like playing uncharted 3 before uncharted 2. I think control issues are blown way out of proportion though.

It is temporary: I pay 1€ for 3 months, and then wait for the next similar deal. So there is bound to be a period of time where I go back to Steam.

I am likely to use, from time to time, the free version of Geforce Now with my Steam account then.

True, as in you cannot fidget with the settings too much.

Or use cheats. :disapproval-blob:

Been replaying Psychonauts 1 and finished it yesterday, and I gotta say there's some polish that it's lacking overall. The sequel seems already better in that regard.
The only place in Psychonauts 1 where the controls feels inadequate is the Meat Circus. It really asks you to nail some fairly high-level moves, and you are so often let down by the really weird quirks of the game's controls.

tbh i see cloud gaming (the external servers kind) as something absolutely different than PC gaming or even console gaming .

Personally not really a fan and see the push for cloud-only/sub-only future (i have seen such articles) as similar cancer to gaming as a whole as always-online requirement for singleplayer... well maybe worse

Yes i can see its value for people on Fibre in big cities close to datacenters ..... and some QoL of it ... but for me its downsides are the "i will quit if this becomes the only way" kind

So in the end both cloud and subs, are great idea for supplemental service , but on the other side wet dream of corporation that scares me

That's... some squirrel Gif ..... (and that's with a hard G you loons)

As for Psychonauts 2... the stutter was already minor and did get a bit better but I'm apparently just going into the second big level, so we'll see.

BUT.... the Windows store has already given me a scare. Third time trying to run the game it refused to start - got to the logo screen with "loading" but went nowhere. After a reboot the Xbox app said "Pre-install" again but thankfully did just quick check and started it.

Would have bought this on Steam so fast if the price wasn't so bad over here, because the game itself so far is really, really great.

Cloud gaming (with the mainstream providers, i.e. ones that don't just host a virtualized PC session you have control over) is, in my opinion, even more console than console gaming, in a way. What I mean by that is that you have equally little control over your experience, and even less ownership in practice.
