I always thought that the point of pre-paid wallet cards (be it on steam, PSN, xbox, itunes, Play store, netflix, spotify) as either an easy gift or a way for people who either don't want to use a credit/debit card, paypal (or similar methods) or simply don't have those payment methods available (for whatever reason).

After all in most of Asia "traditional payment methods" don't seem to be the norm.

So if it's only to load money I don't see the point.

It's another feature they can say EGS has now. And I'd wager they'll throw in a twist that none of the other stores have to make a big deal of it.

It is likely Alan Wake will be a permanent exclusive, though I suppose this will be the litmus test.

Per Epics PR, their publishing gives devs control and options. Though I would assume Epic would need to recover their full investment before there is any way a dev could exercise any other publishing deals like Game Pass, Humble Bundle, or other PC storefronts. Time will tell I suppose.

The first project is Remedy’s most ambitious one yet, an AAA multi-platform game already in pre-production. The second is a new, smaller-scale project set in the same franchise. Both games are being developed on Remedy’s proprietary, state-of-the-art Northlight game engine and tools.
Just from looking over the old press release, Remedy might have indirectly confirmed Alan Wake 2.

Alan Wake Remastered will be an interesting test. Seeing as epic are the publishers they can choose where it goes. I would argue this is the track the should have gone from the beginning.

However they have probably also seen sales figures for how well control has done on Steam. So will it be a one year exclusive knowing that there is money to be made on Steam. Or will they take the potential loss on the game by keeping it exclusive to EGS. Hoping with this particular exclusive and maybe a voucher it will entice more people to the store.

I personally think it will be the latter. He has made a great song and dance over steam tax. His court cases with some and Android. To go to stream would make home look a massive hypocrite and I mean one bigger than he already is.

Why they made a second twitter account ?

The first twitter account about epic games was a rebrand of Epic twitter account in a desperate attempt to have followers, why they made a new one for updates no one cares about ?

The wallet system went live in the US and Canada. It's just a service to top off accounts and there's nothing related to physical gift cards (yet)

Can I buy balance gift cards from retail stores?

No, not at this time. If this changes, we'll be sure to announce it.

@EpicGames is specifically for EGS announcements. @EpicNewsroom is for general announcements related to the entire company.

If there are permanent EGS exclusives, it would be stupid to not shout that from the roofs.

The expectation is, that EGS games are only timed exclusives and many people hold out for the game to release on other platforms. Some will buy it later, others will forget about it or changed their minds on buying it (because of relevance, other games, or bad word of mouth.
You will lose many customers if you are a full exclusive and don't mention it.

On the other hand, if you don't mention full exclusivity and the game bombs heavily on EGS, you can just release it on Steam and other storefronts when you want.

I don't think Epic will discuss the length or permanence of exclusivity. By muddying the waters and making it hard for customers to know what is a permanent exclusive and what is timed, they increase the chance people just buy the game on EGS rather than wait.

Exactly, people already tend to say "they funded this" or "without epic this wouldn't have been possible" with some Third party timed exclusives (last time I saw was Kena being funded by epic, xd) So not saying a word is easiest than saying anything at all.

One of the parts will give some information tho at some point, most likely via AW Twitter account, so, give it a few months AFTER release and you will probably get some details.

"they funded this" or "without epic this wouldn't have been possible"
Is this the new "I'm buying this game tu support the devs" when people try to justify their purchase ? (despite not being how business work at all).

Maybe it's my cynical self, but the argument that "they funded this or that" is such a weird argument. A product exists because someone funded it. At the end of the day it should be irrelevant who funded a game.

You already have proof on this very forum and on social media that the half responses by Epic and muddying the message regarding the exclusivity works wonders.

And the without epic this wouldn't have been posible argument is simply not true but as with everything in the internet a lot of people either made their mind already regarding the matter or just are arguing in bad fight (or on a blatant Epic payroll, particularly on Twitter :blobmorning2:)

I don't think that is correct for most consumers. 98% of EGS games released on Steam after a specific time. Even for games where we didn't know the exact release window. If there are no communications about the type of exclusivity, most will just assume it will release on Steam in 6 to 12 months. That will hurt permanent exclusive games on EGS.

There is no indication whatsoever that the muddying waters experiment is working for Epic. All information we have is, that 99% of games bomb on EGS.

Well, I'm not going to say that most of the time those are bad actors, a lot of people legit think that because Epic (and any other big company) has the resources to make it happen so, if they don't know the real reason why it's exclusive (and let me be clear it is not the case about AW 1 and 2) they will assume it's because holder funded it at 100%

This have happened since PS2 era, do you remember why KH was PS exclusive? yeah, this won't stop happening but that's ok, not everyone wants to know the insights of the industry.

I mean, It wouldn't hurt the games industry to be less secretive.
It wouldn't for us but it would for them because there's always shit moving behind the scenes that would create conflicts.

So yeah, don't expect them to go less opaque, unfortunately the most transparent way of knowing things is via wording, patterns and most likely knowing the entities we talking about.

No because the console versions will carry them. They can keep publishing exclusives that nobody buys because the console version sales will cover the costs
I believe I was refering to the wallet funds but since in the end they don't have retail cards attached to them it doesn't really matter

The logo didn't appear in the original trailer but it was later added (in some trailer or maybe promotional image) it all felt really improvised.

Proceed to ETAILERS. SE becoming Capcom?

Kinda weird it wont be released on EGS, even tho some trailers shows it?

Also wasnt Old World permanently EGS exclusive? Their steam page updated today https://steamdb.info/app/597180/info/
There are no real permanent EGS exclusive (outside published by Epic)

It had a lifetime minimum guarantee, i.e. the developers won't see an additional penny from EGS until they cover their moneyhat on that store. That story got misinterpreted when the trial documents were released and most people thought it meant permanent exclusive.

My personal theory is that Epic published games are not permanently exclusive, I don't know when they can be released on Steam or GOG, but they are not permanently, otherwise Epic would say it.

So LiS 3 isn't releasing on EGS after all?

Always seemed weird with this one given that only one trailer mentioned it and then all mentions disappeared.

Yeah, this always happens when the news go wild, not that it bothers me but information gets twisted most of the time because sometimes some actors won't fully understand the information or misread it.

My personal theory is that Epic published games are not permanently exclusive, I don't know when they can be released on Steam or GOG, but they are not permanently, otherwise Epic would say it.
Same way of thinking here. We will see in 24 months.

That's what the devs told me on Twitter, they said Epic funded the game. But I wouldn't be surprised if Old World bombed hard on EGS. No one is talking about it, and it dropped out of the top sellers list very fast.

My personal theory is that Epic published games are not permanently exclusive, I don't know when they can be released on Steam or GOG, but they are not permanently, otherwise Epic would say it.
I'm not sure. Sweeney hates Steam with passion and has spent over half a billion dollars in an effort to push them out of business. By releasing Epic published games on Steam, he also would lose his last bit of credibility about his fight against Valves 30 percent cut.

I don't see it happening, especially if these games sell a few 100k on EGS.

this definitely just meant that the minumum guarantee sum (aka the monehat) was big enough to cover most of the development .... tbh its not what i would call "funded the game" (as they werent there from the start)

iirc the game even had beta on steam before egs was even a thing
