All things considered it was a great tournament and a great way to close it.
The only real sad thing is the fact there were no live audience that always provides some great moments and hype.
Congrats Spirit.

I would say the finals were fun but a bit too stompy. Game 1-4 were very much one sided. Game 5 was very great game plan from the winners and very interesting, and it slowly cripped to them, with an (albeitly) VERY HYPE ending.

Can't call it the best GF series that way (sadly).

Yes! It gets a lot of hate nowadays, but I still loved that game when I first finished it years ago. I thought the "four bros on a road trip" aspect of the story was really interesting and well developed and the main villain is one of my favourite in any FF game. Combat was a bit all over the place but I think it did the job well. Oh and the soundtrack was sublime!!

You're in for a treat my friend. I really need to replay it too! I haven't touched any of the post launch content they added.
Yeah, soundtrack is super good. I was going to say it doesn't really feel like an "Open World game" because at the end you had a chunky area to explore but were still gated, but now I'm in Chapter 3 which is, very subtly, subtitled "The Open World" lol, so I'm curious how much it really opens up now.
Also did a 2nd dungeon earlier (the ruins) and that was absolutely excellent as well. Similar to the mines, somehow they made JRPG dungeons kinda spooky and super atmospheric and engaging? It's kinda wild.
Combat system is alrightish. Not my favorite final fantasy combat system (not actually sure what that would be, maybe Lightning Returns?) so far, but yeah it does its job. It looks pretty and is inoffensive enough.

There's a curious little game I bought a couple of years ago while it was in early access (it has since left early access a couple of months ago) that I've been meaning to spend some time with, and since it just received a Halloween update, I thought I would post about it. ;)

This one looks quite interesting. It's an adventure game that takes place in a fake OS from the 80's. :)

Allow me to recommend another game I quite enjoyed a while back. :)

For fans of visual novels, or "choices-matter" narrative adventure games, Over the Alps is a pretty sweet game. It has a lovely visual style and soundtrack, and more importantly for a game in this genre, great writing, from Jon Ingold (80 Days, Heaven's Vault) and Harry Tuffs (Sunless Skies, House of Many Doors).

On top of that, the game has received great post-launch support, with multiples extensive updates, including the addition of a whole new story (as a free update), essentially doubling the amount of content, and the game will receive one additional story in the coming months (also as a free update).

If you like the genre, do consider checking this one out in a coming sale:

I agree. It was refreshing to see good dungeons make a comeback in a Final Fantasy game, especially after their complete absence in FF13.

Free (no Steam key) for a day:

You don't realize how much you dislike a game launcher/client until you are offered a free game on it and decides to not use the key.

Happed with Squadrons on Origin, really wanna play it, but the moment I think about Origin I decided to not use it.

EGS, UPlay and GOG works enough to claim free games even though I never play them. Origin and WinStore? Nah, Im good.

So true.

Not bothered by anything Windows game store or eggs.

I have very very rarely used Origin and doubt ill be getting any games directly off of there. I have quite a few Uplay games (mostly through Steam) but since they left Steam im just not interested in them.

GOG is fine but still prefer Steam.

SEGA is outdoing themselves with idiotic decisions when it comes to PSO2 NGS.

In a game that is really starved for content, they... expanded an existing quest just for 1 week, and they hadn't even clearly announced before that it was meant to be temporary... And it's not like there's an event going on or anything like that...
Wasting time on making temporary content instead of making actually permanent content that the game severely needs atm. :|

In the end this was a mistake from the global social media team, what they said that was being removed isn't being removed after all.

I'm more wondering if the 150GB is the actual space needed or if it is more like Xbox where it is half that but the store just exaggerates.

I just discovered that on windows (10+) there's an option called "hardware accelerated gpu scheduling" that's supposedly increases performances in games.
I had it disabled and after reading a thread on death stranding, toggled it on and effectively noticed an improvement in Death Stranding.
Is there any reason to leave it disabled? Do you guys use it??

For me it's WinStore and EGS that are in my "Nah, it's ok i've got other games i can play."
I don't have any real issues with Origin or UbiConnect but then i literally only use them as launchers for SP games as i don't play multiplayer stuff. Also, i haven't "updated" to EA Desktop from Origin yet so i have yet to find out just how bad EA Desktop really is.

Oh and i still haven't bothered linking my Amazon Prime up to Twitch or whatever after all these years. I've probably lost out on hundreds of items but eh and i don't really watch Twitch so i don't really have anyone i would give the free sub to anyway.

The Riftbreaker is the surprise of the year for me. It mixes elements from hack& slash, mech warrior, RPG, tower defense and 4X into an unseen package, and it's a blast to play. Game looks amazing as well, especially with ray tracing enabled. 😍

Seriously, go try this game guys. There's a free demo available, and it's only €23 with the humble choice discount.

Riftbreaker is also on gamepass!

So I do love hack n slash and RPG, but I hate tower defence. Will I still like it?
Stevey has been playing it for a couple of days now and loves it and he said you're not under constant attack so the Tower Defence parts aren't too annoying if you're not into them. Give the demo a whirl and see. I'm the same though, i'm not a big Tower Defence fan and tend to avoid games where the TD part is a big part of the gameplay.

Played a little of Riftbraker on Gamepass last night. Liked what I saw and will probably buy it on Steam.

While I didn't have any major issues with the time I played, I can see the Windows Store version is already behind at least one patch, judging by their twitter:

I'm always amazed how Microsoft is willing to loose so much money currently on Gamepass, but not fix the most basics things about their service on PC.

Though it's thanks to that incompetence that UWP isn't a bigger threat, so I guess I shouldn't complain too much :p

I haven't looked into it before, but I imagine that would cause some input latency at the cost of 1-2 frames? Will definitely look into it.

My problem with anything TD is that it's essentially a game dynamic that rushes me to do something, taking away my agency to play at my own pace. That's simply a non-starter for me on any level of game design, TD or not.

Whenever a game says, "Stop whatever you're doing and take care of this other thing over here RIGHT NOW. Hurry!!! (PS: Hope you prepared for it ahead of time!)", I just nope the hell out.

Not down on the dynamic in principle overall, I can see where it's a rush for the right audience. I just understand that it's not for me.

Closed Network Test announced for Elden Ring. Sadly this trailer suggests that the tests will only be available on consoles.
