In what world is Borderlands a PC-centric franchise???
Have I been living under a rock?
Everyone I know have always bought it on PC and Blands 2 sold like 12 millions or so on Steam.

If Im wrong then I stand corrected.

I know on Twitter that Tiny Tina page has around 100k followers while the Borderlands one has over a million. This isn't really strong data here but it seems not many people were particularly interested in this game. In my opinion I feel like there was more hype for Borderlands 3 than there was for Tiny Tina.
If Gearbox succeed to get a fat bribe like the borderlands 3 one, they succeed to scam epic, i can't blame them

Selling a lot on PC doesn't make a game pc-centric. Elden Ring sold a lot of units on PC, as did all the other souls games, but it's not a pc-centric game.
It might be a definition thing but for me pc-centric is something designed from the ground up with PC hardware/platform characteristics and specificities in mind. Something like Total War, Crusader Kings, XCOM, almost all CRPGs or Sandbox games.
Borderlands is slow paced first person shooter with loot gathering as it's main mechanic. There's nothing there mainly designed for pc.

Back in the day, gearborx published a "letter" speaking about all the pc improvements they made for borderlands 2 and how the pc version was made to feel like a pc version.
But even then I don't know, it was just one of the first looter-shooters and that's all it had going for it. but that's a story for another day.

Epic screwed up the release of FNAF Security Breach.

The game released yesterday 1st april on EGS.

So I kept checking EGS front page and "new releases filter", but couldn't find it. So I searched and found it. Then I saw the date, the one who puts in dates on EGS put in 1st march instead of 1st april, so currently FNAF is on the second page of "new releases", so people can't find it without digging.

Jesus christ.

Making a spin off centered around the most annoying character in the borderlands universe always seemed a bit weird.

I'm curious to know why they rushed the release, despite the creators of Paranoia objection, perhaps they couldn't get any money from Epic until release?

Nacon gonna Nacon...

Sucks for the IP owners who seem to have been taken for a ride.

Stories like this will only hurt Nacon in the long run as they seek licenses.

Seems to me that this is what we were talking about consequences of EGS exclusivity, release a minimum viable product to get the bag of money, but in this case there were third parties in the way to intervene.

Fuck Nacon and Fuck Epic, hope those 2 guys win the most money they can from this mess.

Epic is hosting an Unreal stream on the 5th. I'm guessing it'll primarily cover the official release date of UE5 as well as information on the new Fortnite creative mode which is supposed to be their take on Roblox.

It's absolutely bizarre that game wasn't on EGS at launch. It would have been a big hit with the Fortnite crowd, even if it only sold a fraction of what it would have done on Steam.

Also I know that discussing the EGS top sellers chart is kinda pointless, but Weird West isn't even in the top 25 while it's currently in 5th place on Steam. Pinball FX is in 14th place.

Zen's CEO responded to the outrage on the new Pinball FX game with the usual vocal minority bullshit:

"We have a ton of people who really do value and enjoy what we do, who buy everything, and they’re not going to put a comment in a chat or on Reddit,” Kirk said. “We’re doing well."

What a jerk, he really doesn't care. I hope these tons of people will spend their money elsewhere.

Lots of games releases later on EGS for whatever reason, guess devs and pubs have mostly stopped caring about it.

Like, Warner Bros put Batman games for free on EGS and Back 4 Blood, but Lego Skywalker Saga which has been on Steams top 5 global for at least 1 week still has no EGS page.

I would imagine that creating a non-Steam version of your game for 0-1% of sales is not an attractive proposition.
Not only that but the Epic Store backend is more manual and harder to work with (Epic themselves have to do some stuff). While I've read Steam is super easy to work with (dev from Zeboyd studios wrote on ERA that releasing a game on Steam is "magical").

Also as Mike from No More Robots stated, it takes time and resources to maintain a game in multiple storefronts.

Valve themself have always stated that one of their main goals is to make it as easy and seamless as possible without as many middle men as possible to release a game on Steam.

I think all of that provides why there are so many Steam only games, both from indies and big publishers, releasing on Steam is super easy, you get also a massive amount of tools and stats that other storefronts/platforms don't provide and you are putting it towards 132 million monthly accounts. And with Valve also focusing on providing better and better customer experience which make people want to use Steam, pubs and indies have the perfect storefront for them.

There is a reason Epic has to pay a shitload of cash for Epic timed exclusives and has to completely fund projects from scratch for permanent exclusives (or are they?), indies and pubs can't lose the Steam audience without getting payed big-time.

Not sure if the $144m includes Microsoft's cut (I think it does), but still very cool on Epic's part.

Edit:

Achievement profiles are live.

Lol, so late, Epic is losing a lot of SEO and revenue because of that.
I don't get it either. It's peaked at 70k CCU on Steam so far and if EGS got even 10% of that it would be hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue.

Isn't it still a manual process to add new games on EGS? Maybe someone overslept?
Must have been a coma considering the Steam page was up for over a year and preorders were up for like 3 months.

Hogwarts, Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad all have Steam pages but nothing on EGS. Maybe Back 4 Blood bombed hard on EGS so WB doesn’t really care about it.

Epic did put out tools last year for devs.
That's probably how that Boom Games asset flipper made to EGS.
(epic still haven't removed all their games, only one, I think).

There are no coupons right now, so EGS probably won't even come close to 10%. Remember that their yearly revenue from ALL 3rd party games is lower than Steam's monthly revenue for a single popular game like Elden Ring.

The press release is extremely vague, but I get the impression it's going to be a version of Roblox but with the Lego license.

Also Lego Star Wars is 3rd on the EGS top sellers for what it's worth.

Valve has made so much money from Fall Guys, they won't care much and they will still get a cut from mtx sold on Steam.
I'm not sure, but I think MTX on the Steam version of Rocket League uses Epic's payment processor now and Valve doesn't get a cut. I assume Fall Guys will do the same thing. I don't know though since I uninstalled the game over a year ago and (sadly) haven't looked back.

That would be against Steam rules afaik. So I don't think it does that.

It's not worth anything.

Galactic Civilizations IV is releasing on April 26. The game entered early access on EGS in June 2021 so a Steam release probably won't happen until this June at the earliest. At the same time, Stardock might have done a similar exclusivity deal ala Ooblets where it's 2 years or 1 year after 1.0 (which ever is later) which means the game might not release on Steam until June 2023.

Just speculation on my part since Epic appears willing to use different exclusivity contracts for early access games. Hopefully I'm wrong though, especially since something like Darkest Dungeon 2's first year of EA will be in October and I'd like to actually grab that one when it comes to Steam.

Darkest Dungeon 2 is exclusively for early access, so if the game takes 19 months to get out of ea, it will be 19 months exclusive.
