We're weeks past the Year elapsing. My chips are on "Life Exclusive"
It wouldn't be the first time that a Squeenix timed exclusive doesn't release exactly 1 year after the exclusivity period, some have been weeks or even months after the exclusivity ended (though these were console exclusives, and not exclusive to a PC platform).

They would have put out a few social media posts at minimum a week before dropping it on March 30th. It's been radio-silence instead, and there's no way in hell a AAA publisher is going to shadowdrop something like this.

I know there was the curious case of Mechwarrior 5, where it was several months after exclusivity ended that it finally got a Steam release, but that was to line it up with a bombastic E3 marketing push and effective relaunch of the game.

And we already know that Epic has bought Life Exclusives before, we just had one release on Steam a few weeks ago only because the game got a new publisher which decided to buy it out of that deal the devs had originally made.

Square saw low sales on Epic Store so they concluded that PC sales are low and they won't bother with PC releases anymore XD
Also yeah this was one of my previous takes that Square Enix was going to be Galaxy Brain petty in response to poor EGS sales and conclude "Welp, guess there's no audience for these games on PC!"

They are timing the KH Steam release for the maximum impact.

Probably for when they have more to say about KH4 and platforms. No one even knows what it's coming out on yet.

Seems like an excellent way to recreate how amazingly Titanfall 2 performed on PS4.

"Hey, Steam audience, here's the latest sequel to a series that has never been on your platform! Please Be Excited!"

Or I suppose more aptly, Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 3 never getting PC ports capitalizing on VC1's success, and Sega skipping straight to VC4.

I think you've misunderstood me.

What I mean is, when they announce KH4's platforms (likely to be Steam if it's coming to PC, given Epic is dialling down on the exclusives) they will probably drop the PC ports of the older games on Steam and maybe do some sort of promotion on the console platforms too.

I don't see this being anything like the Titanfall 2 situation. All the PC ports of KH will be on Steam.

That's not how things work.

I have tracked ALL exclusives from EGS and some took up to 650 days to pop-up on Steam (not even different versions, just late releases) so nothing really confirms they all take 12 months exactly, also, some companies might want to re organize their line-ups to not destroy newer releases, for example, S-E just released Chrono Cross, it wouldn't make sense to release not one but up to 4 ports in the same week, it would hurt their sales even more.

So please, be patient.

My best case scenario is that how S-E handles Steam releases of Kingdom Hearts is going to be a total "IO Interactive, hold my beer" and I'm going to leave it there.

Everyone should remember how they released the FFX collection that one time. That's the expectation everyone should have with Square Enix.
I actually don't remember the situation that much (although I bought it day one haha) what happened exactly?

I remember the game popping up on steam and some time later SE mentioning that the game was coming and they would do a stream.
That's not bad in the slightest, and is really what should have happened by now.

Steam page, a modicum of PR to promote the Steam page, release while the iron is hot.

The iron on KH's viability on PC gets colder and colder each passing day. Until proven otherwise, I say that Square Enix completely smothered KH on PC in the crib for a short term pittance from the professional Lowballers at Epic.

If square run to form expect a 50% sale on epic at the same time as the release of the Steam version with no launch discount.

Well, knowing Square commissioned the Steam ports, the Steam SKUs were made (for at least FF7R and KH games) it would be kind of dumb to just drop those after paying a whole team xD

Still no KH games on steam? :( Square just fucking release them already...

I finished ANNO:Mutationem and the plot of the game goes to some places lol. Right at the start you think that the game will be cyberpunk themed and then I felt there were some Neon Genesis Evangelion influences and as you progress further the mysterious organization is something like tge SCP Foundation, and it's not like they even try to be subtle about it as one of the achievements is called "I feel secure, contained & protected"

Overall I liked the music and the visual of the game, the combat in certain moments felt clunky but it was serviceable once you acquire better weapons.

Exclusivity on PC is doomed to fail because there's no shortage of games to play. People will just something else.

Like, imagine for a second Elden Ring would have been an EGSclusive. People would just play 1 or Sekiro or Nioh or the countless clones of Souls that exist. Sure, it's not the game. But there are options.
This is true for most games, but I'm not sure it applies to games like Elden Ring, Cyberpunk or the next GTA that have years of insane hype and FOMO surrounding them. These games would maybe have "only" sold 1-3 million copies on EGS rather than the 5-10 they sell on Steam, but a lot of people would unfortunately still buy them anyway.

Also Elden Ring's reign as the king of weekly charts is finally over.

The Steam page just randomly popped up one day, was live for days before anyone from Square even aknowledged it, and then some community manager said that he would stream it. Literally never announced the game even when someone pushed the store page live. Not even a tweet.

Expecting more from SE will just lead to bigger disappointment.

The extra funny bit about that Last Remnant thing was that the announcement said they would "postpone" the sale of game.

"Any plans to restart sale of this are yet to be confirmed."

Like, what? I guess they still haven't confirmed it one way or another, almost 4 years later. :valle:

What a bizarre company.

On some random thought-walking, I'm surprised how Valve has gotten so big without expanding beyond PC gaming much, if at all. The only thing I can think of is when they tried selling movies, and the stuff they've done to improve selling game soundtracks.

tfw No KH Shadowdrop

Don't worry. I assume whoever at Square is responsible for their Steam releases just forgot about Kingdom Hearts (who can blame them, since no one talks about the PC version anymore) and we will see it shadow drop in a couple of months or years.

This week friend of mine asked me to play Wofenstein Youngblood with him so i agreed. Oh boy it didn't take long for both him and me to get annoyed and pissed at game. As soon as we saw that game literally says to you that you should go and do side content first we knew that something is wrong. And basically most of the things were wrong, except level design. And that is not surprising because Arkane was involved. But honestly i don't know where to start with this game. Shooting feels bad, you get option for stealth but unless you get upgrade for throwable weapons it is pointless, enemy respawn (and spawn in general, you can go to one room see that there is nobody there, leave room and get attacked from behind because enemy spawned in that room). enemies that are weak to some types of ammunition can get annoying when you are forced to switch weapons in the middle of the fight. And so on and so on. Even those Brother bosses are really bad.

And they decided to make coop game where only way of communication with coop partner is basically voice chat and in our case Steam chat. There is no ping system, you can mark only 1 enemy (unless there is upgrade for more but i didn't see it so far) and there is no any interaction between partners outside those boosts/peps.

We will finish the game but i really don't know what they were thinking when they decided to make this game.

Hmm, for those who customize their Steam cover art extensively, how would you go about backing it up ?
Now that I'm on my PC again, I checked the specific locations.
All the custom art lives in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\your_steam_number_here\config\grid\.
And the config files for various things, including the custom position of the logo in the main game page seems to be in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\your_steam_number_here\config\librarycache\.

But yeah, backing up the whole userdata folder is useful anyway. Though depending on your grid art folder that backup might get pretty big, mine's almost 2 gigs. :D

Kinda had a similar experience yesterday with my boyfriend, playing Serious Sam Tormental since it suddenly poofed out of early access. We both just said "this blows" in unison after about an hour. The game's color palette is too washed out it was annoyingly hard to see what was going on and to make enemies and such out from the backdrops. Each run also consistently had one of us die right before a shop area, so they couldn't buy any power ups, which meant we would die again right before the next shop, and so on. That and the end-of-level portals sucking you in means you can easily miss the big upgrade you get after beating a boss. It just suuuuucks.
