Guess I should make an AniList account then from looks of things

If we're sharing impressions too I'll say i gave 86 3 episodes and dropped it; I didn't get the hype, it didn't seem to have anything to say beyond a very surface level parable for racism is bad.

Currently I've been watching Violet Evergarden, and I've been really enjoying it. The episodes take a more standalone story approach than I was expecting them too but towards the end of the series I found myself tearing up more than once.
I watched the first movie last night, and I think it's the weakest entry of the series so far; it's basically like 2 double length episodes stitched together, but the 2nd half I felt was less interesting than the first. Still enjoyable overall however.

I stopped watching 86 after finishing the first season. The last few episodes sadly bored me to tears. Felt pretty detached from the characters as well.

This season I am enjoying Ya Boy Kongming the most. Unique premise with fun uses of ancient Chinese tactics.. Pretty enjoyable. Spy x Family also has a fun first episode but I need to see more first before further commenting.

Still need to return to Estab-life.

That's a shame, I really loved everything I've seen so far. I still have to see the last 6 episodes of season 2 though.

Thankfully there's a way to automate keeping your list updated: Taiga
You can sync it to your AniList account and enable media recognition for both media players and streaming sites. So you just watch your things and it will keep your list updated for you.
Sweet, I will have to check out Taiga!

86 was by no means bad, it just sort of felt a bit flat for me after the initial introduction into the world. There were some aspects I wish it would have focused on over the ones it did, but I would still probably give it a decent rating.

86 was...hmm...it started out strong, sagged heavily throughout the middle and finished okay, but honestly the show really did not do it for me.
weirdly enough it went almost the opposite for me ... i found it super weird at the start and felt like whole part 1 kinda dragged .... got better with Part2 and absolutely loved the last 2 episodes (25+26) .

This season is nuts. Summertime, Kazuya, Komi, Spy Family, Kongming, Shikimori, and there's still a bunch of stuff I haven't seen.

also, hello Anime thread :)

Edit: I might change Shikimori to Virgin Road instead. Turns out, Ep2 of Shikimori is really boring and the characters don't seem to more than literal parody cutouts. I'll give it one or two episodes but yeah, that's really disappointing after a fun first episode after which I expected at least some development.

Finally a new Digimon Ghost Game episode. Man I missed this show. As always fun episode. :blobevening:
God I missed this show so much.
That was a "fun" episode to start things back again.
And holy shit, the preview for next episode looked terrifying :face-with-cold-sweat: .

Oh for sure, the last few episodes saved the show for me and would lead me to give it a decent score, but there was just a lot of things that fell flat for me after the shows opening up until it started to pick up steam at the end. I think the beginning was such a heavy, emotional part that lead to sort of a weird middle that in some respects did not explore some of the things I would have liked from that emotional start (and maybe it is because it really had a shift in perspectives), but I still think it managed to wrap up in the finale in a satisfying way.

86 discourse gives me Aldnoah.Zero vibes. (Which i ended up loving in the face of all the hate) :giggle:

Lately I haven't been able to watch/read much so no real updates from me. I'm almost done with Castlevania at least. Final season, I'll hope to start it tonight.

I’m watching Nichijou now and yeah I completely agree.
For every really good sketch there are 4 that are just not funny.
It’s a shame but yeah I’ve kept watching so far cos when it’s good, it’s really good

Some of the jokes in Nichijou (like Helvetica Standard) don't work becauser they are wordplays in the japanes elanguage impossible to translate. And some Jokes of course, just don't land as they do everywhere.
But the other 80% of Nichijou is he best comedy in anime, because often it is actually not doing anything and being funny for it. Unlike so many other animes where the humor is usually so forced "oh no, the character slipped in landed on the big breastes girls boobs, how embarassing!"

This is my go to clip for any conversation about Nichijou

At the end of the day, Nichijou is quite literally a clip show, instead of a story based anime, and as such, individual clips will always stand out more than the show itself, because the individuals are always the roses, never the needles.

On that note, where the fuck is Konosuba.
Kaguya Sama is getting a new season soon at least.

The holy Trinity of Comedy anime for me.

A Konosuba project was announced last July, it doesn't have a date, but the director for Konosuba was recently busy directing Princess Connect season 2, good chance this Konosuba project is what he'll work on next.

Late to the Nichijou talk, but I think Nichijou is one of the best works KyoAni has ever produced. Keiichi Arai's comedic timing is exactly the kind of comedy I like. :flare_bath:

Also, fuck Disney for their exclusive licensing of Summertime Rendering. :mion_angery:

Bleh. I suppose it's only a matter of time before every streaming service under the sun is gonna have exclusives. And that's about the time i unapologetically go back to uh, yo-ho-hoing Blu-ray rips.

I'm already feeling over-extended on subs. Hulu, Amazon, Netflix, CR, and Disney+. (And I feel i'm forgetting another...) :surrenderblob:

Been watching Juni Taisen: Zodiac War, I'm like 5 episodes in out of 12.

It's pretty. But if you told me the creator is the same as monogatari series I would not believe you without some proof. Story wise it honestly feels like something he wrote for a quick buck, or maybe just writers block made him want to work on something small and self-contained.

Still i just find it quite odd how it seems to fly in the face of his usual writing. ... And the other problem I have with this battle royal, even 5 eps in... It's become very apparanet who the next death is simply by whomever you get to know best each episode. AKA: Whoever talks the most about themselves is the next to die. 😕

Still. I don't hate it. I kinda just yolo selected it one morning since i felt like i needed a smol brain pallet cleanser between all the busy stuff lately.

Good Ghost Game episode again. The bug-form animations and sfxs where great(ly uncomfortable).
Was nice to see a bunch of the early episode mons taking active parts. Quite a few flashes of impressive animation as well!

Binged Mushoku Tensei over the weekend.
From a production standpoint this was outstanding. Gorgeous visuals, beatiful music and good direction throughout.
Very good world-building and story with some hard-hitting emotional moments.
Only thing that works against it is that the main character is just a massive creep at times. He gets better and I suppose it shows his character development well, but it doesn't make a lot of scenes less uncomfortable to watch.

Yeah Mushoku Tensei was great despite Rudy lol. So many interesting side characters and world building. I think Rudy does have his good points, like trying to save Rujierd, and he doesn't discriminate against anyone. He's just a womanizer like his pops lol. I guess the hard part is being a grown ass man in a little boys body.

The cliff-hanger ending got me so good. The whole part 2 I was wondering about Sylphy and they teased her at the very last moments. Excited for Season 2 when it gets here.

Trying to update Anilist with what shows I watched on Netflix and struggling to remember some of them. Which speaking of Netflix, I cannot believe season 2 of Komi still has not aired on Netflix yet. :upside-down-face:

So far the only shows I am watching from this season are
Spy X Family > I loveeeee this premise so much, I actually ordered the first 6 volumes after watching the first few episodes
Kaguya > Love this series, so more please
Komi > Netflix, please
A Couple of Cuckoos > Feels promising
Shikimori > Ehhh...we will see
Aharen > Ehhh...

Between Kaguya, Komi, and Cuckoos, my rom com tank is overflowing

Going back and watching random stuff, it is unreal how much I have missed in the past few years.

Ok I take back what I said about Nichijou to a degree.
There are still a lot of skits that either don't make sense (understandable though frankly) or aren't funny.

BUT the ones that hit, oh my god they hit hard and have left me in stitches

It is just weird since the fourth episode will be airing this week in Japan. I thought Netflix was aiming to be more like Crunchyroll with simulcasts.
I thought so too, but at the same time Netflix doesn't publish any anime without dubs right? Maybe it just takes too long to get that all going...? At least I don't think I've ever scrolled past any anime on Netflix without the auto-preview blaring English at me.

Huh, just noticed David Production listed in the credits for Date a Live IV as one of the studios that contributed after finishing with Episode 2 today. Well that's a surprise not gonna lie.

Easily the best produced season of the adaptation so far from watching the dub so far and impressions I've heard from people watching the simulcast. Just kinda bittersweet though that Date a Live finally having an anime season with an actual animation budget seems to be the result of, as some have joked on Reddit, the fact that the name is associated with a Gacha game that's raking in the JPEG Casino bucks, more than anything else.

Oof.

Ep. 24 might be the darkest Ghost Game episode yet. Which is quite a feat considering there have been some really dark episodes lately.
But man
People getting forcefully turned into human-plant hyprids by a yandere digimon who wants to turn her love into a digimon, but ends up essentially suiciding by trying to become human instead. That's a hell of a lot to unpack.

Yeah, this is a heavy episode. I don't even know how to describe my shock when she stabbed herself in order to asking for love. Really left a bad taste in my mouth.

Yet another excellent Ghost Game episode!
I did not expect
getting a Super Evolution this episode, but HELL YEAH. Canoweissmon looks freaking incredible, can't wait to see Angoramon and Jellymon's Ultimate forms.
It looked like Gulusgammamon was about to come out there, but they supressed it with the power of friendship. I do wonder what's going to happen to Gulusgammamon. Will it have a separate Ultimate? Will it simply "merge" into Canoweissmon? What about their diferent personalities?
What about BlackAgumon and co?
Still lots of questions.

Also RIP Dracmon, lol. Did not expect it to show up just to get insta-killed 😅

Been watching a few things from the current season

spy x family is just amazing, I can’t say anything that hasn’t already been said

Kaguya sama is more of the same but that’s exactly what I want, it’s a series that makes me laugh like no other

Tomodachi game isn’t scoring particularly high on MAL etc but I do love a death game set up so I’ve been enjoying that too

last is Komi s2 but I’ve dropped it now, that show show has gotten rather stale at this point now imo

would like to check out summertime render whenever that comes to Disney+ and Kongming butI need Hi Dive for that so god knows when I’ll bother

Not to worry, by all accounts the Manga has been played out and stale for a while now too. Seems the author is only interested to drag it out for money as there really hasn't been any development or moving forward on anything.

Finally got around to watching the 2nd half of the 2nd half of 86.
I imagine watching this as it aired could have been frustrating with all the delays, but watching it all in one go did not disappoint.
Loved it.
Fan-fucking-tastic finale. Literally perfect ending as far as I'm concerned. I sure hope we got more seasons, but even if this is all we'll ever get I'm 100% satisfied, it provides all the closure I need as is.
Oh, and the action leading up to the last episodes was amazing too.

This has probably earned a spot in my list of overall favorites, and it's a show I'll gladly recommend to everyone going forward.

CR got it and not Netflix. So expect weekly simulcasts.
Some people were worried if Netflix got it, they'd hold it up until the whole season is done as they tend to do.
Or we would get 12 episodes like we did for Stone Ocean and have to wait forever for more. I don’t know if that is actually Netflix’s fault or what the deal is there. If we were informed when the rest would come out, I haven’t seen anything.

But back to Chainsaw Man, which I am incredibly excited for. Watching that weekly is going to be such a fun event, just like Spy x Family is for me right now, but 1000x more because I’ve actually read CM.

This anime is getting more messed-up with every single episode lmao. I need to know how they got the greenlight for all these stories haha. To be fair I find them incredibly entertaining but it is astonishing that a kid show managed to send a chill down my spine.

Seriously everyone in this thread should watch it. It is that good. Easily my favorite show in recent years.

Oh, and Digitamamon is voiced by Kugimiya Rie. So good.
