Experiment 14: Discovery Queue Update
Making it even easier to discover games on Steam, from top-sellers to new titles
Today's new Steam Labs experiment launches an updated format for the Steam Discovery Queue, creating a more focused experience that makes it easier to explore the games that Steam recommends for you.

You can give the new queue experience a try right here, or you can always find it on the Steam Labs page.

What is the Steam Discovery Queue?
Originally launched in 2014, the Steam Discovery Queue gives players a way to step through a personalized set of recommended games one at a time. To date, 115 million players have used the Steam Discovery Queue, viewing a combined total of 18 billion game store pages.

What is new about this experiement?
Today's update makes it easier to see key details about each game, and to flip through a queue of games faster than before.

Here are the highlights from this update:
  • Launch into the queue without leaving the page you are on
  • Simplified presentation of key details about each game to give you a taste of what that game is about
  • See why each game is being recommended specifically to you; maybe it's because you have friends who play it, or it's similar to other games you play, for example
  • Add a game to your wishlist with the click of a button or view the game's full store page for a more in-depth view
  • Ignore games that just aren't your jam. We'll make sure to hide them in the future.
This update brings a whole new presentation to the discovery queue, but we're not done yet. We're launching it in Steam Labs because we'd like your feedback to help shape this new format and the features it includes.

A couple of things still under way that we plan to roll out in the future:
  • Coming soon... new queue display on the Steam homepage
  • Coming soon... launch the new queue from any store page
  • Coming soon... optimized for all screen sizes from desktop to mobile to tablet
  • Coming soon... full support for gamepad UI on Steam Deck
Why now?
We've been working on updating various areas of Steam to work better across a growing range of devices including desktop, mobile, tablets, and now Steam Deck. For the Discovery Queue, we found that we needed a new approach to how it works so that it can be more easily navigated on a variety of devices and to make for a better experience overall.

About Steam Labs
Every year, we create new experiments around discoverability, video, machine learning, and more. You know who we thought might enjoy seeing them? Everyone.

With Steam Labs experiments, you can try, share, and break potential new features, while we figure out what to keep and what to scrap. Share your feedback with the developers and designers working on these features and help shape the future of Steam.

Check out all experiments on the Steam Labs page or drop us some feedback in the Steam Labs discussion boards

Well that explains why it wasn't possible to natively find the queue on the Deck. Doesn't work in browser for me ATM with Augmented Steam (well, can't ignore stuff anyway) but working well in Steam client.

Edit: As per my below comment, I think the new version is just bad, actually

Wouldn't save you here, as physical copies also require online activation.
more often than not was my point really (and its most particularly aimed at consoles cos I don't trust their online stores longterm), but yes in this case as you say I think that's true

no room update for today, as i tried photogrammetrying my PC again to no avail, caused by the glossy surfaces creating confusion in the program

instead of working on it (it's a real drag to take hundreds of pictures standing/walking after leg day), i decided to just continue playing p3 fes and wondering what flavour of Sørlandschips i'll get while seeing my overseas capitalist neighbour crumble

While I generally trust Steam user reviews, the new discovery queue puts the review score front and center and makes you have to click through to read any reviews, which seems bad. I wish it had the "most useful" reviews at least loaded in so you could scroll and see them.

Edit: Yea overall, I do not like the new discovery queue. It's worse in every way except for "speed" than the old one, and it's SLOWER if you actually see stuff you're interested in and need to click through each time.

I will just say good luck to Sony with Uncharted and TLoU releases on PC, they will need it due to pricing. Uncharted is already 30$ on PS5, TLoU Remake is 70$ and no PC release date.

I've been playing The Sekimeiya these days (just finished chapter 4) and it's freaking incredible.
Might just be the most ridiculously intricate mystery I've encountered in any media so far. :sweaty-blob:
Just learned new information that potentially explains and recontextualizes a ton of stuff, so I'm tempted to actually peruse the in-game notes to go through what happened and see how things fit together with this new knowledge.
I really like that the game provides you with a lot of tools to help you figure stuff out, like automatically updating scene summaries that give you cliffnotes of everything that happened and who was present (+ the ability to add your own custom notes) and all the text is fully searchable and can be filtered by person as well. Very appreciated, especially given just how dense the writing is.

I wonder if it wasn’t this VN that had a steam review criticizing one ending sequence. Should check back. Without spoiling, it’s the type of moments when the game basically says ‘you better have been taking notes’.
Why, yes, I’m old and still pissed at Laura Bow 2.

edit
Jesus, the pixel art in LB 2 still spits all sorts of fire. So good.

Assuming it's legitimate, hopefully this means a Steam version is also coming alongside the console ones.
I highly doubt it's coming this soon having Mistrel's song coming later this year. Also, yes, those are retail versions, Steam is always digital only so Play-Asia won't have it listed in that section (they also sell codes, but those usually pop-up the same release day)

Hm, I read a bunch of reviews before picking it up, but I don't recall that particular criticism. (Also, it doesn't look like it's a game that will have multiple ending sequences.) I haven't finished it yet, though.
The common criticisms seem to be that it has a somewhat slow start (I found it fascinating though) and that the character writing is a bit on the weaker side, since the game really goes all in on the mystery aspect. (And to be fair, that aspect is so good, that the characters only being "good enough" and acting a bit unrealistic isn't really a detriment, at least up to where I am), but this might be dealbreaker for some, depending on what you're looking for.

Enjoy! It's pretty mind-boggling.

Taking notes is kinda encouraged by the game early when it shows you all the tools Ascheroth mentioned; you don't have to though but it's probably a decent idea in a pretty complex (not in the ZTD meaning of the word) mystery. Also seconding the recommendation, it's easily one of the best VNs I've read.

Am I dreaming or has 3d Mark disappeared from Steam ?
What should I use for benchmarks ?

edit
Oh yeah sure, 3dmark and not 3d mark.
Ok. Fuck you.

3d Mark demo
CPU high 85.6c
GPU high 69.1c (nice, I guess)

Anyone have some bread or pizza to cook ? I have the perfect oven.

When we started talking about [campaign progression] and working on it, we imagined a scenario where every mission you played, we checked the box that you got credit for that. You've done that one. But then you end up with this weird problem where like, "Okay, I've been playing with you, but now I'm going to play on my own." So I start playing through the campaign, but then I start hitting missions that I've already done? For the flow of things, you want to have to redo those. The story would be very confusing if you got to mission eight and it said, "Skip this one because you've already done it." Your hero and your gear and your experience points, that stuff is always persistent but your mission flow is persistent if you're the host.

Wait what? It's better to replay missions you already played to experience story you already experienced than to just continue where you stopped?
