Would Monster Hunter Rise be worth it for someone new to the series, that plays solo? I'm also limited in playing time during the week, but if it works well on Steam Deck, that'd be great.

I'm looking to get a new game, and I'm debating between Monster Hunter, Nier Replicant or Nioh 2.
I think MH World would be a better introduction to Monster Hunter.

I tried as a n00b to the series (not on PC), but no matter what I did, I couldn't get hooked. It may have been because I play solo, or the loop, or... I don't know. I've always wanted to "get into MH," but this didn't grab me no matter what I did.

Really? I was reading that the Wire Bug makes Rise more accessible then World. The nice thing about World is I could get the whole package for less then Rise.

I’ve tried in the past via Wii U demo, but it just felt overly complicated. I’d really like to tackle it though as it does look fun and engrossing.
Plus beating Elden Ring has me interested in returning to it.

I prefer World, but Rise is the most beginner friendly MH. It's fairly easy and it has the most quality-of-life features of a MH game yet.

I was pretty much in the same situation as you. I bought 3 Ultimate for cheap and could never get into it. It took playing 4 Ultimate on the 3DS before I became a fan. Old Monster Hunter is just plain hard to get into, but the newer games do a much better job easing players in.

Yoshida says there will be no turn-based combat in FF16 because younger people won't like it.
The internet: In a death fight between turn-based and action combat fans.

The real issue: FF16 being made with kids as a target audience.

:toucan: Nvidia desperately trying to clean 3080+ stock. (While still being above MSRP, despite being 2 years old).

Also another :toucan: for counting Doom Eternal as 3 games. (Technically it's true as each is standalone but...)

I play solo and have no issue.

MH Rise has gameplay improvements compared to World and depending on the weapon you choose you'll feel this even more, gameplay wise it's also more accessible.
MH World is higher budget and they tried to integrate a story into it to carry you along the game.

World by now is ultra cheap probably, especially on 3rd party stores

I'm still new to FS games, but Elden Ring is calling my name. I should probably try to finish DS1 before jumping in. Has there been any rumors or news on Bloodborne coming to Steam?

Skate will be a F2P live-service game and will have cross-play and cross-progression between PC, Xbox, and Playstation:
EA’s new Skate is going to be a live-service free-to-play skateboarding game, developer Full Circle announced in a video on Thursday.
Skate will be available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, with crossplay and cross-progression.
As for the game’s business model, Mocquard said the microtransactions are primarily going to be about cosmetics and convenience. “I want it to be very clear that it’s not a pay-to-win game. There won’t be any gameplay areas hidden exclusively behind a paywall. Players won’t be able to buy any gameplay altering advantages.”

Rune Factory 5 seems neat so far.
I've now played RF1, RF4, and RF5 and one thing I kinda miss is having your own house. In 4 you start out in a sort of castle, in 5 on the top floor of a SEED building. I think in 1 it was nice having a home to yourself. Much more cozy.
That said I really like how fast the movement is in the game, and the character portraits/UI still look great even at 4k. I get an occasional stutter but it runs pretty smoothly. Running at 4k 60fps.
Guys, the year is officially already halfways over and guess what?

GUESS FUCKING WHAT?

KINGDOM HEARTS AND FINAL FANTASY TACTICS ARE STILL NOT ON STEAM
Don't forget Neo TWEWY!!!

Some more releases:

Escape Academy, which I quite enjoyed the demo of, and supposedly has split screen co-op which I really wanna try with my GF since she's done IRL escape rooms pre-pandemic but I never got to.
Also Loopmancer is out, ultimately I was disappointed with the combat in the game (which is pretty key element) but it might be worth it on sale, or as another demo player suggested, on an easier difficulty so the free hits enemies get (and the enemies being hard to see) doesn't mean as much. I'll probably wait for a good sale or bundle and then give it another shot.

just got Capcom's Exoprimal closed beta code:

- Closed Network Test Schedule -

• July 25, 2022 (Mon) 0:00 - 5:59 (UTC)

• August 7, 2022 (Sun) 0:00 - 23:59 (UTC)

Would you (or any other councilors who got into the Exo beta) be interested in doing co-op for the August 7 testing? I also got in, but don't know anybody else who did.

I cant make the July 25th beta date as it starts on 8:00AM on a Monday where I live (woof), but the 8/7 test date has a generous Sunday window. :coffee-blob:

Does someone here own Ikea desks?
I made my own "super desk" using the cheap desks from ikea. it's really just a bunch of desks put together honestly....the brackets from a few cracked (they were plastic) so it's not all together like it was when i first put em together...anyway, i don't know the name, but they're the standard white ones. They're good so far. I found, while drilling the holes for cable management that some are made different than others? really weird, but whatever, it all worked out, and I'm pretty sure you've seen my set up!

I can't say for sure as I don't know if I'll be home that hour, there's still plenty of time, but if I get in I'll let you know. ^^

This talk about desks reminds me that I am actually currently in the process of gathering materials to make my desk XD It won't be anything special but it will be all steel construction and I am yet to decide about top.

I have two SKARSTA desks. They are standing desks, in that you can manually change their heights using a crank. Simple and sturdy desks, though no real cable management built in. I added a kind of cable canal manually to them, fixed via nails.
I ordered a ‘Malm’ model but I just saw it’s made out of, uh, cardboard.

I only trust desks with steel frames. :fingergunsblob:

Cardboard would scare the hell out of me with all i have on my desk. Books, Illustration stuff, Mid-tower PC, Two monitors, speakers, laptop, etc... 😅

since we're laughing at game companies, let's all take a look at the extensive and long list that exists on this wikipedia page:

Im glad its so short. Any list of "exclusive games" should be super short or non-existant

~

regarding desks... and other non-steam stuff – as a bit of a semi-regular reminder; there is an offtopic thread* that you could use for stuff like this :p
(* or, make new threads! :D )

~

anyway, I finished The Quarry recently. Not bad for what it is. Very cool graphically, doesnt run too bad, story is a bit pants, but I liked it overall.

Im still slowly advancing Life is strange – True Colours and Syberia – The World before. Theyre not bad, they are just not exactly grabbing my attention for long periods of time.

I also replayed the first three Monkey Island games and started the fourth.
The first three I could remember almost every puzzle solution (although there were some that I could not remember, nor for the life of me figure out).
Will see how Monkey Island 4 goes...I've played it only once, and thats when it came out, 22 years ago.

Oh and I played already 14 hours of Last Call BBS the included Sawayama Solitaire ... help :p
