With how hot it's been outside I really appreciate the Steam Deck even more, lol.
The little thing produces just far less heat compared to the full Desktop.
Yeah, dude. It's actually been a little uncomfortable playing my laptop as of late with the heat it generates. I use one of those lap desks. Though, I'm comfortable, I'll never understand the decision to have that heat blast up and hit the bottom of the screen, only to come back in your face.

Ubi leaving Steam has to be one of the biggest blunders.

I'm sure there's other things that led to their downwards trajectory, but they must be kicking themselves for it. They're not as relevant in the PC space as they used to be. Nowadays, almost every article I've seen about them has been negative, whether it's incorporating NFTs in their games, removing access to paid DLCs, or looking to be bought out because of their long-declining stock price.

HEY EVERYONE!!!

you know what needs to be done ;)

Another Sunday bounce around coming up in 10 minutes! Going to start things off with a little MHR this time. I was struggling to figure out what I wanted to begin with and thanks to a conversation I was having with lashman it hit me. I won't elaborate further in this post but I'm sure he'll understand once I get to an equipment chest. :face-with-stuck-out-tongue-and-winking-eye:

I am tired of companies releasing multiplayer games without community server support. We would not have dozens upon dozens of articles each year of so and so game dying for good, if the community could decide to keep up support. What's more, the community servers may offer up tweaks and mods that improve players enjoyment, or at the very least, create a more meaningful pocket of a community. I use to play on small servers with the same folks of random games and I did not care one iota about whether the game was dying or dead, because there was still a community.

It just baffles me that these companies will go to great lengths to create products that no one can ever play again when they pull the cord. Which is one of the many reasons I hardly play any multiplayer games these days.

guess the game

I've been replaying (and loving) Freelancer for the last week or so. Used the HD mod to fix up things like wide-screen resolution support and it has a bunch of other improvements.

This video looks way better than my game does. Is it another mod I've not heard of?

Also I found an upcoming game on Steam called Underspace that is heavily inspired by Freelancer. Maybe it's common knowledge but I didn't know about it until a couple of days ago. Looking forward to playing it when it comes out.

The funniest part is like, they can just go back to Steam. I doubt they would be so dumb to sign off forever their right to release their shit on Steam.

Not so unexpected results this week
The top 3 is nothing surprising, but Dinkum is doing exceptionally well. I think there's only one developer so they're probably elated.

Master Madjoki, is there a possibity you could do your voodo magic and find something else?
If, by some miracle, the next MH had cross save, I'd probably wind up buying it twice (for PS5 and PC). Playing MH Rise on the Steam Deck is wonderful and reminds me of when I first got into the series with 4G on the 3DS.

I WANT TO THANK NATHAN FROM STEAM SUPPORT

If you ever have problems adding your phone number to Steam ask support to get their sms partner to send you test messages to your device and then do adjustments to your number based on the results of the test
Happy to see that everything was sorted out
You can leave a feedback on twitter about the issue and the solution by tagging tom giardino and others valve folks eventually, im sure they'll be happy to adjust their support guidelines about such an important issue. They always pays a lot of attention to that kind of feedback so it's worth a try

Thanks for Quantum Break C-Dub! Will definitely start playing it this week.

When will it end?? :notlikethisblob:
It's a good game but almost 100h and I've still only completed ~60% of the story. At least the story is getting more interesting as it goes along but still...
I'm a huge fan of this genre but after putting 8 hours into it I'm not sold and I'm not even sure why. I guess it doesn't feel as satisfying to play as I hoped? I dunno, can't put my finger on it. Gotta give it more time. Knowing that it's THAT long is discouraging though.

Tactics Ogre, crown jewel of the tactical role-playing genre, is reborn!

Based on the 2010 release, the game features improved graphics and sound, as well as updated game design, bringing to life a new Tactics Ogre that remains true to its roots.

Game Features
  • A tactical role-playing game depicting the struggle for control of the Valerian Isles.
  • -Yur choices affect how the story unfolds, and even how it ends, with a game system that allows for multiple paths through the game and multiple endings. The story takes place through the eyes of a young man named Denam. The decisions he makes will alter the fate of those around him, and shift the course of Valeria's history.
  • -Fight pitched tactical battles on three-dimensional battlefields. The completely revamped AI enables enemies to adapt their tactics to the situation, providing a battle system that always keeps you thinking and never grows old.
  • The class-wide level management system used in Tactics Ogre (2010) has changed to a unit-by-unit level system. Theorycraft your way through endless combinations of classes, equipment, skills, and magic.
  • Enjoy numerous playability improvements, such as a quicker pace of battle, auto save, and a complete overhaul to the controls and UI to make it easier to get into the game than ever.
  • The unparalleled details of the characters and backgrounds from the original Tactics Ogre (1995) have been painstakingly recreated in high definition.
  • The cutscenes are fully voiced in English and Japanese, and all of the music has been rerecorded with live performances! The voices bring new life to the complex motivations of the characters that make up the factions and shifting political alliances of this epic story.
  • When you advance far enough in the game you'll unlock the World Tarot, enabling you to travel back in the story with the power of your forces intact; an incredibly useful feature in a game where your choices have such a huge impact on how the story unfolds. If you wonder what a different choice would have led to, now you can find out!
  • Traveling back isn't limited to the story; the Chariot Tarot lets you rewind up to a certain number of moves during battle. In a game of tactical battles where a single mistake can mean the difference between victory and defeat, you can play without worrying that you'll back yourself into a corner.
  • Enjoy a wealth of endgame content such as the 100-level Palace of the Dead.

Weird filtering they're using, the sprites look really odd.
Nice to see changes to mechanics, I hope they did more than just levelling (TP seems to be gone, so I assume so).

MetaSteam | August 2022 - Cult of the Backlog

Cult of the Lamb looks nice
A few of us posted impressions of the demo in the Next Fest thread this past time around. It felt really promising to me, I hadn't heard of it and was just drawn in.

Thanks for Quantum Break C-Dub! Will definitely start playing it this week.

I enjoyed it in the end way more than the X-Coms or similar that I've played, BUT, it does have a very long "intro" phase. You aren't really done unlocking the systems of the game for 20 hours (there's technically a couple that come even later but they aren't super important). Once you do though it's super, super fun and you can really play with load outs and builds.

The end-game balance is kind of eh, it pretty much requires specific builds (or at least, 1 of 2 specific builds, for most characters), on anything beyond the easy settings, but you CAN always just play the easier setting.
