Or, you know, Uncharted is just not that good.
Naughty Dogs place in the industry absolutely baffles me when the actual GAMEPLAY they put out is so trash. I get it, they stretch the console hardware to it's limits and produce shiny things. ... but the games are just awful to play.

Do people really like bullet sponge enemies so much?? Or is it just the one-long Hollywood setpiece to another in-between rope swings?

Persona 5 on Gamepass is nice... Hopefully that save converter works. I wonder, would anyone with the Steam version mind helping me test by sending a save file?

I'm going to make a point of posting things about the Xbox app on the feedback hub. One thing every day, for thirty days. I'm fairly confident it absolutely won't be seen, but I want to actually confirm that so I can definitively say Xbox doesn't listen.

I've played every single game in the series and I really love it, but not putting the first 3 games into the collection was very stupid and has put a damper on a release.

I don't care how "it's separate stories" in the games. You miss so much by not playing the others.

If you have not played the first 3 games, don't buy the Legacy Collection.
Good to know, thanks. I am almost certain that Sony is going to remake the first three games so I'll wait to play them in order. My comment about Uncharted not being that good was made in jest as I haven't played any game in the series for more than a couple of hours at a friend's house. That said, I do think that the game's genre (linear cinematic third-person action) might not be especially appealing to PC gamers.

I honestly don't see the appeal myself. I admit that my experience with the series is very limited (as I said above I've played a couple of hours of each game at a friend's house) but it never grabbed me for whatever reason.

One of my alltime favorite Neogaf memories was a thread about how Naughty Dog should make the Half-Life 3 if valve won't will, and to proof their ability to make good gameplay towards all of steamgaf that was making fun of them in that thread, all these naughty doggies posted gifs showing the player character just standing or ducking around, surrouned by scripted events.

Naughty Dog games are YT watch games. I mostly skipped the overly long shooting sequences.
Persona 5? Yeah I watched it on YT, but I also played it twice on my old PS3 because gameplay is fun.

At least now Uncharted hit the 10k peak lol. I've been playing it and I love U4 so far, I think the reason why is not performing as well as the others just come down to not porting 1-3 first, and releasing the game in an absolute stacked week (I'm sorry Sony but you can't compete against P5R and Call of Duty) at the same time. TLOU part 1 is in danger of having the same fate because I'm 100% sure they'll release it for 70$, which is kind of a no-no for PC gamers, as it should be (Unless you're COD apparently).

Also, RIP to Sackboy next week lol. I'll be surprised if that game even hits a 5k peak

It's not the deepest game out there, but it's brainless fun. Just set the lowest difficulty and treat it as a high budget walking simulator.
But it just doesn't work as a standalone title, needs the previous trilogy before to properly hit.
Yeah I liked what I played of the series (like half of the games). It is a popcorn movie in game form. Funny characters, mindless story, great graphics and set pieces. Enjoyable 10 hours, and a week later you have forgotten everything about the game.

Uncharted time has come and gone tbh. If you were to play a third person shooter, why would you pick this one. the fourth one and its DLC in the series, over every other TPS that has released in the past 6 years?

I'm not saying the games are bad because they aren't. It's just that it's a tough sale.

I wouldn’t mind playing uncharted if i could start from 1-3 instead of 4 :shrugblob:
If you started at Uncharted 1 now, you would likely stop there lol. To call it rough around the edges would be generous. The series really didn't come into its own until Uncharted 2. And I haven't touched that one in over a decade so it may also have aged poorly at this point.

Honestly, going in at Uncharted 4 really isn't as a big of a deal as people are making it out to be. There's nothing in the first three games that you absolutely need to know, you just need to know that they happened. Uncharted 4 does a fairly good job of bringing you up to speed on where the characters are at.

And I say this as someone that usually hates getting into a new series if I'm forced to skip instalments so take that for whatever it's worth. 🤷‍♂️

Only five hour into Persona 5 and wow they really go into some serious and messed up subjects. So good!
Right? It sure doesn't waste any time getting dark lol. The first palace dude is such a giant piece of shit.

Wait Sackboy is next week, oof that one didn't even light PS5 on fire. That feels like it is very much DOA

Definitely don't agree with this, as someone who played all of all uncharted games, 4 and LL are easily the best of that franchise.
Now even including other franchises they are also some of the best out there especially in the sprawling action adventure category. What tps in the last 6 years makes these not necessary and "time has come and gone"?

What I meant is that why would you buy the 4th entry of a franchise you'd never played before, especially at 40-50 bucks.

Uncharted 1 and 3 are miserable fucking experiences but I'd still want them to be avaiable for people that want to suffer through that shit.
I don't have any strong feelings about Uncharted 3 one way or another but I played through it exactly once when it came out and never touched it again whereas when Uncharted 2 came out I replayed it non-stop for like a month and got the platinum trophy lol. I hope they port the old trilogy eventually and I'd probably replay them but yeah, porting Uncharted 4 first wasn't some baffling decision here. It was 100% the right move lol.

I only played a few of the NG games and I agree with the people about the actual gameplay part.

I actually put down TLoU due to the gameplay as a side note.

I liked Uncharted 1-3 a lot when they were released. Not sure I'd still enjoy them now, but back then the hybrid between 3rd person action and Tomb Raider-like puzzles felt fresh to me. The characters, story and set pieces are also excellent imo.

This said, Uncharted 4 is my least favorite game in the series. The climbing sections felt very boring and repetitive to me, and the enemy encounters feel too much "arena"-like instead of being blended in the environment.

I'll never forget the clock tower level followed by the car chase though. The part starting at 3:30 is still the most impressive game design I've ever seen:

Honestly, i'd take the opportunity to skip them on PC over not having the option at all, as someone who never got yo play them in the past.

I feel like, to some extent, Uncharted's performance can also be indicative of cinematic third person action games just not having a massive audience on PC, especially at that price. Of course, starting with the fourth game in a series surely doesn't help, doubly so when the gameplay isn't a huge draw. However, people would have generally said that Uncharted is a much bigger franchise than e.g. Horizon ZD, and yet the latter did far better at launch, with a worse port. But it's also a bit more of an open world / ARPG game, which does seem like a genre more in tune with the audience.

Another part of it could be the novelty wearing off. I know people who never owned a console and tried Horizon:ZD to see for themselves what does Sony exclusives were really about.

Remember this

I think this is sort of what NarohDethan was talking about

I mean I'm sure it would have a good story and stuff (after all they had hired people from Camp Santos whos game was praised for it story, or something, I have never actually played Firewatch).

But I highly doubt that ND would have gone this "far" with the gameplay.

Hell, not even other AAA VR games have gone this far in both terms of production value and gameplay. Which is why I'm curious as to how the Horizon Dawn VR game will turn out like since I highly doubt that's going to get a huge game budget.

I tried the first Uncharted for like an hour back in the day, it didn't grab me then, but I could see myself playing it and the sequels now.
I'm also definitely in the camp that needs to start from the beginning.

So I'll play them eventually, assuming they port the original trilogy as well at some point, or remake them and put those on pc.

There's also the huge amount of games releasing during this fall, only so much time and money to go around to spend on games that are lower priority for many PC users, while in a less busy season they would have been more likely to buy and play these.

Though, some people talk like 10k peak concurrent players is bombing, but that's still a pretty decent number, even if it's considerably lower than other Sony releases. Many games wish they could get this many players (Neo TWEWY and Crash 4 with sub 300 peaks), 10k is slightly more than the most successful Yakuza game on PC so far.

Uncharted 4 and LL have great gameplay.
TLOU2's gameplay is some of the very best you'll find in any third person action adventure.
But if you want to judge games that are over 10 years old and a product of their time by current standards, just to fit the ND is shit narrative, I guess you can do that too.

The Uncharted games (except for the first one, had to try multiple times to get it to click) and the TLOU games are fantastic games. Golden Abyss was also really good, shame it's dead on the Vita.

But I guess calling popular games mediocre or bad makes some people feel good about themselves.

The reasons Im not picking up Legacy Collection right now is price and that I've already played them. But I will at some point.

There's no need to take different opinions personally, taste in gaming is inherently subjective. It's ok for someone to not like a game that another person likes.

I mean I did play TLoU when it was considered new when I dropped it, 2013 I believe.

Is it really that popular of an idea to not be liking ND games? I really only know praises.

If I had to guess, about as many as those who presume some sort of bias instead of a simple preference because they are fans of a developer.
Who knows, I personally would like people to play games before calling them good or bad things.

For example, saying TLOU is not good without having played it makes no sense.

Max Payne 1+2 are 19 years old and still great games today. 🤷‍♂️
If a game is "a product of its time" then it was simply shit at launch and only lived by shallow virtues.

A well produced game doesn’t mean it’s a well designed game. I loved TLOU for its production values but hated it for its game design. And this was back in the day when I could tolerate linear games and said game was actually one that started to push me away from such games, even though I liked it for what it did. I see why people like it but I wouldn’t say it is a great game, at least not what I expect of the medium.

For those that have been following Marvel's Midnight Suns, the only pre-order bonus is the "Doctor Strange Defenders Skin" (which, if I'm reading correctly, it should be available to buy after 30 days), right?

I've been cutting back a bit on my game purchases, and of the huge avalanche of coming games I'd like to own, I'm trying to exclude those who don't have pre-order bonuses, or those whose pre-order bonuses are, most likely, being sold later on. :)

thanks
