ogey. @me in a month when the drama slows and every corpo and normie is still tweeting like it was all just a dream because there are exactly zero alternatives right now and probably in the relevant future.

Remember, the public at mass prefers convenience over anything else. I'm still waiting to see evidence of a user exodus (to any meaningful scale.)

And yeah, growing up with the internet? Seen tons of websites and social media go up and down. Thing is, they're all still around just fine? Somehow even Yahoo despite multiple bankruptcies and management crisis.

Maybe he sells it at a loss by next Summer. Don't really care. But also don't really see anybody proposing or building an equally convenient, accessible, and large alternative. So...

Revel in the current zeitgeist while it's cool I guess.

I think I accidentally talked myself into buying an ultrawide monitor. 🤦‍♂️ I've been thinking about it on and off all year and then this week they announced the release date for the Witcher 3 update and it occurred to me how nice it would be to play it with ray-tracing on an ultrawide monitor. So I spent the last few days looking up various games on PCGW to see what the support looks like and I'm at the point where I don't want to start any new games until have the thing. Shit, I still haven't finished Spider-Man and now I kinda don't want to touch it until then either lol.

Also, it'll be nice to finally have a monitor that properly matches up with the 27'' one I got a year ago. My old 24'' Dell is still working fine but it has a different pixel density so it's impossible to properly align them and moving stuff between the two is super annoying.

I always knew Utawarerumono was niche within a niche but seeing the poor numbers (concurrent peak 700) for Monochrome Mobius is still pretty depressing, especially when Steam is the only platform it's available on in the west.
I checked several subreddits, Era, 4chan, and just about any other usual place you could think of and there's virtually no discussion about it anywhere outside of the Shiravune official Discord.
It probably didn't help that it's releasing so close to Tactics Ogre and Pokemon, and that Shiravune only sent codes to reviewers a couple of days prior to release, and all the coverage of the game prior to release that I saw was people making fun of how janky the game looks, and that the game doesn't even have Utawarerumono anywhere in the title.
Now that I'm typing this, I'm realizing that I'm probably part of the problem since I didn't buy the game despite loving the Utawarerumono trilogy, but unfortunately I've been busy with some other stuff lately.

They did actually get Hololive's Ame to shill it today, which is pretty funny when she never plays RPGs and Kiara is the JRPG superfan, but exposing it to the Hololive fanbase is honestly well targeted marketing and something that NISA and other smaller western publishers should consider doing.

Again, who is paying for running the servers and who is gonna maintain the servers? It's running a billion debt deficit a year with basically no income, and Twitter lost 88% of their workforce, critical tech engineers and whole teams are gone, The whole institutional knowledge at Twitter is gone. New hires would need to learn how systems function for months on end or would need to completely rewrite the backend which can also take months to years because the code they are trying to maintain was built upon years of accumulated knowledge.

Just because there is no alternative (there is, people just need to use them) doesn't mean the current thing can survive.

tbh i found that even bullshittier than TGAs nomination by AAA-loving jurnous

Assuming this will come to PC at some point like most such projects have so far. Have they said what exactly the differences between classic and modern mode are, as things like the free camera vs iso & old vs new soundtrack seem to be independent choices?
what was this? (its removed)

lol thats one way to deal with GfWL

We have updated the Games for Windows Live installer in the installation package. If you have a Windows 10+ machine, this will return the Game for Windows Live features as long as you are logged into your Xbox account. You can do this through the Xbox Game Bar. There is no way at this time to return this functionality for Windows 8 or lower operating systems.

He also is going to be fielding massive WARN act lawsuits because he violated one of the only real worker protection laws still in effect in the states, and he also fired a ton of non-US people in ways that might violate their rights in their countries. He's also going to have to replace the HR / payroll team that all left (edit to add: this is not hyperbole, reportedly the entire payroll team and most of the finance team is as of yesterday) or he will face MORE lawsuits for that, which escalate the longer that goes on. Of course, this is probably all going into debt for Twitter LLC or whatever, not him, so it's possible Twitter just declares bankruptcy, but that still has significant issues for the platform going forward as they are losing advertising money left and right because of unbanning hate speech advocates (Twitter left a LOT of hate speech open, so they really only banned the worst of the worst - there were groups using Twitter for terrorism, publicly, even before Musk bought it).

If Mastodon or similar solves one of the core issues with their structure - that is, what happens if a node has an owner / admin that goes AWOL or dies and the whole thing implodes, causing every post there to just vanish or be lost - they could be a real contender, but even though I want a less-capitalist platform that structure has REAL issues for something that's supposed to be an all-around social thing. It's basically all the same downsides that private forums, Discord servers, etc. have except with a marginally higher barrier to entry for most people, so I just don't see it ever taking off.

More ZA/UM drama:

Kaur Kender claims that Linnamäe's piece of the company was supposed to be divided equally between stakeholders, while Kompus managed to have Linnamäe sell exclusively to him, with Kender and Disco Elysium co-authors Robert Kurvitz and Aleksander Rostov kept in the dark.

"Kurvitz and Rostov started asking questions and demanding to see documents last fall and were fired as a result. They were kicked out of a company they made big and where they still hold minority stakes," the paper reported.

Kurvitz and Rostov claim that Kompus used for his own purposes money that was meant for all stakeholders and to develop a sequel to Disco Elysium.

Kaur Kender met the same fate as Kurvitz and Rostov soon after. He was sent on leave and eventually fired last week. However, he did not let the matter lie and turned to court, saying Kompus had caused him damages of €913,000.

So I grabbed a few controllers recently. I was sick of almost gritty/grindy feel on the Switch Pro Controller, the A button on my Xbox Series S|X controller (for my PC) started double-pressing after only about 90 hours of playing P5R, and I had the same issue on my Xbox Elite Series 1 controller.

So it was time to try something new.

I bought three gamepads with the plan to have:

1x controller for my Steam Deck when docked
1x controller as my daily driver for my gaming PC
1x controller for my Switch
1x controller for emulating Nintendo games on my gaming PC.

I bought:
  • Gulikit KingKong Pro 2
  • 8bitdo Ultimate BT+2.4ghz (Nintendo layout)
  • 8bitdo Ultimate 2.4ghz (Xbox layout).

In terms of my preference for PC gaming, I didn't find the hall effect sensors in the KingKing Pro 2 or 8bitdo Ultimate (Nintendo layout) worth sacrificing the proper Xbox layout, so I've decided the 8bitdo Ultimate 2.4ghz (Xbox layout) as my main daily driver for PC gaming.

The Gulikit KingKong Pro 2 was close, but the bad d-pad and lack of remappable rear buttons has relegated it to my Steam Deck when docked.

The 8bitdo Ultimate BT+2.4ghz will be mostly used on my Switch via bluetooth, but the dongle is plugged into my PC so I can use it when I'm playing a game that works best with Nintendo layouts (emulation, mostly).

In addition to all the other controllers, I now have too many gamepads. For each system I have:

Switch
  • 8bitdo Ultimate (main)
  • Switch Pro (backup)
  • Joy-Con grip (backup)
  • Wii U Pro Controller (via 8bitdo adapter - backup)
  • PowerA Wired GameCube-style (for any GC ports I play on Switch - aka Super Mario Sunshine)

Xbox Series S
  • Official Xbox Series X|S Controller (main)

Steam Deck
  • Gulikit KingKong Pro 2 (main)
  • PowerA Switch Controller (emulation of Nintendo games)
  • PowerA Wired GameCube-style (same controller as used on Switch - will use for any GameCube games I emulate on the Deck)
  • Steam Controller (for specific games - connected by dongle)

Gaming PC
  • 8bitdo Ultimate (main)
  • Official Xbox Series X|S Controller (backup)
  • Official Xbox One Controller (backup)
  • Xbox Elite Series 1 (backup)
  • Sony PlayStation DualSense (emulation of PlayStation games)
  • 8bitdo SN30 (emulation of SNES games)
  • 8bitdo M30 (emulation of Mega Drive/Saturn games)
  • Steam Controller (for specific games, same as the one used on the Deck - connected by Bluetooth)
  • PowerA Wired GameCube-style (same controller as used on Switch/Deck - will use for any GameCube games I emulate on the PC)
  • SNK NEO-GEO Pad PS3 (wired controller for fighting games)

And if Valve announced a Steam Controller 2 (Deck layout) tomorrow I'd buy it immediately!

With most stores having sales at the moment, if anyone sees a good deal do post about it. ;)

I bought a good chunk of my top wishlist yesterday, even before the big Steam sales started, since some stores have additional coupons that take the prices down a further notch, and I have no doubt Steam's discount won't be as generous.

I bought:
-As Dusk Falls (GMG; they have it for 60% off, and I had an additional coupon for a previous problem with an order, that took the discount to 68% off)
-Lost In Play (GMG 48% off)
-Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series (Voidu; they have it for 40% off, and I made use of their 30% off discount code on top of that, to get the price down a good chunk).

Then, making use of some Steam wallet funds I had from a recent refund, I checked the current Bandai Namco and Earth Defense Force sales, and I bought some DLCs I had marked for purchase during the Winter Sale, to "complete" the content for owned games.

I bought:
-ACE COMBAT™ 7: SKIES UNKNOWN - TOP GUN: Maverick Aircraft Set - (50% off)
-EARTH DEFENSE FORCE: WORLD BROTHERS Season Pass Bundle (this pack is never on sale, but they currently have a rare small additional discount due to one of the DLCs being on sale, which resulted in a 54% discount over the individual DLC prices)
-Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series: Special Bundle (40% off, to combine it with my earlier game purchase from Voidu)

And, I honestly think I'm mostly done for the year.
With the cost of life drastically increasing, my lack of time (and patience :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:), and my existing backlog, my planned purchases for the season were mostly DLCs for games I already own, and the above titles/DLCs were much of what I was potentially eyeing for the winter sales.

Unless there's a very worthwhile discount on some of my top wishlist titles (No More Heroes 3, NEOGEO POCKET COLOR SELECTION Vol.2, River City Saga: Three Kingdoms, ...), my wallet will be taking a break. :giggle:

Kiara has been very busy this week, with 2 Holotalk streams (which take alot of preparation) and recordings.
She was still able to stream a game yesterday, but between a sponsored stream or streaming a new game from a franchise she likes (Pokemon), I guess she picked Pokemon and so wasn't available for Monochrome?
Plus if The Pokemon Company is still as backwards as they were early this year, Hololive members will only have permissions to stream the new Pokemon games for a few months at best... :/

How is the gyro for the 8bitdo ultimate controller?
From what I can gather it works in switch mode.

I don't use gyro at all in any game (find it more trouble than its worth), so I couldn't tell you. And even if I tested it I wouldn't be a good judge because I don't use it enough to have a strong opinion about where it's "good" and "bad".

Oh i was just wondering if it works i switch mode only or not
Well, for what it’s worth, I can’t see any gyro option in Steam when I’ve got it in XInput mode.

I think some people have said it works in Switch mode if that helps, but I’m not a good source for that as I don’t want to mess around since I’ve got it configured how I want it now.

Yeah sounds like they locked the hardware behind the "modes", i.e. gyro only in switch mode and analog triggers only in xinput mode.
That's a shame it'd have been awesome otherwise.

My choices for gyro are still Dualsense or Switch Pro I guess

Remind me again: next week's Autumn Sale on Steam doesn't have any "rewards" for purchasing games (cards, ...), right?
That will be on December's Winter Sale, right?

thanks ;)

If this had gyroscope it would be cool, but I don't see mentioned anywhere so I guess it doesn't (i'll find out in december when it releases and more people will write about it I guess)

I don't know where I'd store that! I'm already taking up a disproportionately large amount of space with all my gamepads, and the lapboard & mouse that I use for KB/M games!

If I brought an arcade stick home my partner would murder me.

I'm a TV PC gamer so no desk!

Also, my desk has a lot of work stuff so I'd probably have to clear it off Monday to Friday anyway.

I use an official XBOX One controller for my PC. Used to use the one from my XBOX One but the usb port on that one is broken and doesn't hold a connection.

Had to replace the sticks a few months back, pretty painless process, just cheap ones from amazon. Both sticks drift a bit, the right stick more noticeably so in some sensitive games, borderlands, I have to use steam input to create a dead zone. Not noticeable in most games.

XBOXONE:

The DS4 is perfect though, but most games don't support the button layout. :(

My steam controller is still in it's box slowly increasing in resale value.

I switched to a MS Elite 2 after my old PS4 controller died and have been very happy. It didn't all the way die, but the sticks had developed drift to a very annoying amount that constantly trying to re-calibrate was annoying and also the rubber had worn off in several places.

Maybe I grip these things too hard lol.
