Anyone here got impressions of Marvel Midnight Suns or Callisto Protocol? And any performance of each on the Deck?

I'm surprisingly being entitled to one game for xmas and I'm thinking of these 2
Outside of my issues with save files not working while I'm in regular online mode on Steam anymore as I switch between Desktop and GPD Win Max 2. It does has some issues on the Steam Deck but there are workarounds on reddit in regards to the save files and the various Proton versions. I already put in over 50 hours and it's been a blast. I can post a full review later on but I would say Firaxis did a great job juggling the card system, Marvel characters and the FE: Three Houses influences with the Abbey.

Sweet baby Jesus, 'Outstanding Story-Rich Game' and this is what we nominate.
Yea, that's the problem with popularity contests - whatever the most people know, wins typically. Citizen Sleeper should obviously be in the list but even if it saw success it didn't see well-regarded-AAA-finally-on-pc levels of adoption. At least a few of the off-beat award lists this year have broken the mold.

I sadly feel an urge to get Where the Heart Leads on PS right now since everything points to the PC version being cancelled due to the Meta acquisition.

Re: AC Valhalla Steam Achievements

They've quietly edited the post again lol

At this point I'm taking this as a definitive no. Unsurprising but disappointing nonetheless. Removed both AC Odyssey and Valhalla from my wishlist. I'm not sure why Ubisoft is so adamant on making their games so easy to ignore. :shrugblob:

Ubisoft being weird again. They could've added Steam achievements with the same amount of effort it took them to respond to the inquiry, so something is off here.

I played a ton of the alpha despite it being pretty basic feature wise. They seem to be adding a lot of the proper scripting tools with early access so deff gonna cop
oh, cool! :) yeah, it definitely looks interesting

It honestly boggles my mind that nazism still exists as an ideology in 2022, How much of an idiot and a scumbag do you have to be to support such a thing? Our society has failed is such hate is still existent today.

As for the content itself, I don't mind historical games like Hearts of Iron or parodies. Games that worship or glorify nazism should be purged in my opinion.

I wrote a review for Midnight Suns:

the TLDR if you don't want to read the whole thing: very fun and addictive gameplay, the story and writing is ok but you'll get much more from it if you are a Marvel fun. I am a fan so I loved it. I docked some points for its rocky launch (performance and stutter issues) but it's better now and I fully recommend it.

Also, if anyone clicks on the link, could you tell me if the site loaded fast? We did some speed optimizations lately and some feedback would be useful. Thanks!

Looking at the Story Rich category I will be voting for the Stanley Parable I think. But really not a great list. Can’t even remember what I nominated. Think it was P5R.

Finally “Completed‘ Vampire Survivors. As in I got to see the end credits. I still have a bit of playing to do on it. There are still a few characters for me to unlock in both the base game and DLC. Most of the new weapons still need unlocking. Plus I have 18 items to unlock in the collection. First game in a very long time I feel compelled to try and 100%.

The simple reality everyone has to face regarding fascism is that fascism is inherently more appealing than any other ideology.
Loving things requires work, trust, confidence and can often lead to hurt. Hating things is very easy. and instantly relieving, like taking a piss.
Working towards a greater good requires your sacrifice, working towards your own good requires you to sacrifice others.

Fascism/Nazism is nothing more than the politicized sum of the selfish violence inherent to the human animal, as such it can't ever be truly expelled, but only combated, but its corruptive force will always return. And no matter how much of a leftist any of us think we are, every single one of us at times will have thoughts that are microscopic fascism in nature. Like wishing ill on people that piss us of even though they arent technically doing anything wrong.

As such, fascism must not be understood as something that can be done away with, but something like the dark force in star wars*, that exists and can influence us all the time and needs to be consciously pushed away.

Found my new cooling solution for my PC.

Aside from melting the monitor, and needing a constant liquid propane supply, I don't see any major downsides to this. Clearly this is the future of PC cooling right here.

Does Midnight Sun still stutter during attack animations?
I play on PC. No stutter after skipping the 2K launcher. There's also a similar launch option for the deck but I haven't tested it.

I have to say that I was wrong about the Witcher 3 upgrade when I commented on the trailer video a while back.

I just spent quite a few hours continuing my playthrough from 3+ years ago and I'm getting really into it.

Now to be fair, I did that precisely because I bought a 4090, so I did expect it to run well. What I did not expect is just how visually impressive it would be. The GI is transformative in many scenes (I tried turning it off a few times to compare when something looked particularly stunning, and it makes all the difference). It's also extremely expensive performance-wise of course, but I'm combining it with all the new "Ultra+" draw distance / LoD settings and I have to say that the result is better in terms of (lack of) pop-in than a great many recent AAA games.

I'm impressed.

Now hopefully they can also improve performance on mid-to-high-end systems a bit more, though I imagine retroactively putting RTGI into an existing huge open world game will never be particularly resource-efficient.

Loaded quickly for me.

Took me a while to get back into TW3's gameplay/controls but now I'm reminded of why it's one of my favorite games of all time.

Also having a great time with Wateland 3. Thanks again Sadrac!

FWIW, you can push the LOD values even further with ini edits.

Eh, I definitely do not think fascism is innate to humanity, and certainly not Nazism. Nazism is very much manufactured, and fascism is an extremeness of (what is natural) a desire for control but created due to our current societal structures and resources.

A desire for control is the part that's natural, but a move towards fascism isn't. The things that are driving fascism in the West are 100% manufactured and premeditated, but we also face the threat of it being a natural solution as climate disaster begins to cyclically decimate humanity. It didn't have to be this way.

Trivial solution: abandon all hierarchy and class. No leaders of any kind whatsoever. Since exceptionalism is nonsense that is derived from divine right and still used to empower the powerful, just forget about it. Once we have an information age, we can further democratization. The harm here is that those who wish to live in a fantasy land while others pull the weight for them will die. But a transition would have to be gradual.

Short term solution: You simply take action against those that spread nazi BS every time. You do immediately permanently ban all Nazi speech every time. You remove their ability to organize. You take Limbaugh off the air in the 80s. You take Alex Jones off the air in the early 00's. You don't just sit around and allow fascism to spread. It doesn't naturally grow, so if you actually act against it, it stops. It's not fire or insects, but a few peoples' immense efforts.

Unfortunately I think it'll take hundreds of years for humanity to recognize this at best, and another few hundred years of cultural change before any group even gets that a little bit.

We are simply little babies that are a mere 100 years since the last fickle kings directly deigned millions to die. Yet we still have 'kings' in Trump, Musk, other business leaders, etc.

Am I imagining things or are the NPC idle talks much more frequently and hella loud, compared to the previous version? And they don't even fade with distance.

Biggest issue i have with this is that same people who screamed that everyone should ban Truth for example and cheered that Apple or google i can't remember refused to host it (due to some app issues not politics) are now complaining. Second thing this is probably more move related to Twitter wanting to become more than just social network and introduce monetized content in bigger way. Remember how we were all reacting to developers promoting Epic Store exclusives on Steam. But they are approaching it in wrong way in my opinion, just like Epic did with Epic Store, fight with better content not with banning things and stupid rules.
