Something I forgot to mention, no arbitrary resolution support. It caps to 1080p.
Bad resolution support is just one of the main things I won't tolerate on a PC game. It's just how my priorities line up, I can understand others being less offended by it.

I've only played a few hours of it so far, but it looks pretty good. A bunch of body horrors and jump scares. The developers, Experience Inc. made Stranger of Sword City (which was a legit blobber). Death Mark has a little of blobber mechanics as well, in terms of exploration. Add to that a little point and click adventure exploration and a quiz mechanic. So it's not a strictly pure visual novel where all you do is select dialogue options.
First thing I did. Now the waiting begins. What I'm going to do to pass the time? Play some other game from my backlog? Ridiculous!

Well to be honest it will be the only one that will truly make me sad if it goes EGS exclusive because the original Rune was what got me really into PC gaming. Its sort of like a "Oh alright... I guess" kind of feeling of wanting the company Human Head to succeed but yeah. BLEEEH all around.Yeah, I'm on the same boat.
Months of silence, pre-order page removed, and that whole speech. It's pretty obvious this will be yet another EGS exclusive.
Oh well, if they don't provide me with the promised Steam key, I'll do like I did with Phoenix Point: I'll ask for a refund.

Rune was also one of those games that got me into PC gaming. After hearing of HH's problems over the years, I hope the payoff was worth it.

So I finished Katana Zero ... I think? I'm not sure; it says I did. It was a good game, but I'm not even sure if I beat it.

I missed out on the controller talk, but I feel like writing a little about it since I own all three controllers.
I'm excluding Xbox controller since well, I don't own it and Ihate dislike Microsoft with a passion.
Dualshock 4
I've been using DS4 the longest and it's the controller I'm most familiar with since I've been using Dualshocks since the PS2 days. What I like the most about DS4 is the D-pad and the face buttons. It's rather difficult to accidentally press the wrong directional button or the face buttons, compared with the Steam Controller, for example. I am the most comfortable with its form factor, mostly because of muscle memory and the size of my hands. As you might have guessed, the battery life on this controller is horrendous. If you have seen people actually buying multiple DS4s to last them more than a few hours of gaming, I can confirm that their reason is warranted.
Switch Pro
This is the newest controller I own. Having asymmetric analog sticks threw me out of the loop at first, but after a bit of adjustment period, I don't have an issue with it. The grips (or its lack thereof) on the controller is what I had more problem with since I'm used to the grips on the DS4 and Steam Controller (especially the one on Steam Controller since it fits perfectly in my hands). The start/select (or whatever it's called on Nintendo platform) feels like it has been recessed enough where most of the times I can't tell if I already pressed it or not until the action is reflected on the screen/game. Other than that, it is a pretty decent controller. The best thing about this controller is its battery life. And I'm not just saying this because I hardly use it, but it can actually go multiple days for 2-3 hours of gaming each day for at least a week on a single charge. I can never say the same about the DS4.

I kinda prefer using DS4 for steam games because the touchpad offers more buttons and function than the normal xbox one controller, mapping share button for screenshot, left touchpad for select and right touchpad for start is my default now, and the dpad is much better than the xbox one. But yeah, battery life is horrible.
I had a switch pro but sold it because the dpad problem is terrible, so back to my wii u pro for 2d games i guess.
Steam controller is dope, but I just can't get used to using the trackpad so it's just there collecting dust now.

I don't know why, but I absolutely hate symmetrical analog sticks. Give me a Nintendo or Microsoft controller any day. I guess the Gamecube ruined me on anything that isn't asymmetrical.
Yeah, I love the DS4 solely for this reason. More buttons = more joy.
Ah yeah, I forgot to mention the D-pad issue on the pro. I hardly use it (I hardly use my Switch after all) but it's definitely a problem since so many people reported it. The trackpad was a bit of an issue for me too at the start. Typing with those things definitely took a bit of effort.
It's really a bummer that Devotion hasn't been relisted yet. I was even going to make a lengthy thread about it on the other side discussing the whole saga behind it and how, despite being one of the best games of the year with an excellent story and meaningful themes, it's in a makeshift purgatory that it seems like it might be increasingly unlikely it ever gets out of.
It's depressing that such an amazing horror game isn't available on Steam at the moment so, I'll recommend a different one that never really got too much buzz.
Gray Dawn kind of came and went despite being one of the best horror games that released last year, it's not on sale at the moment but if you like psychological horror games I recommend wishlisting it. It's fairly gameplay-lite but it has an excellent story that tackles some rather dark themes, and the atmosphere is very dense and eerie. The frame of reference here is absolutely Silent Hill, if you enjoyed (or at least appreciated) Silent Hill then you should keep this one on the radar. It skews more on the "walking simulator" side (hate that phrase but that's a different topic) but it definitely has the same tension and heavy psychological framework and imagery.
I've always felt that CRPGs worked better structurally as a series of different campaigns with broader choice and consequence rather than one overarching, prolonged campaign where the C&C is more granular and doesn't really affect the overarching plot in massive ways (well, other than getting different endings). I find AoD strikes a perfect balance between depth and breadth; each playthrough is only about 15 hours or thereabouts, but there's a massive spread in how each one plays out. Essentially take all that content in a 90 hour campaign and stack it laterally so that you (a) have a playtime-accessible first playthrough with meaningful C&C, and (b) have an ample amount of replayability when you come back to it. I wish more CRPGs adopted this model and not the "one sweeping epic of 100 hours" setup that's been the genre's convention for a while now.

Oh this is fantastic, I'm always hoping more people get a chance to play AoD. It's probably my favorite of the renaissance CRPGs.

Wow, this is so much like the GameBoy Pokemon games. It gives me a boost in confidence since I've always wanted to create something old-school like this that really resembles Pokemon and other monster-catching series.

Sort of adding onto this, the Xbox One controller has really smooth triggers and sticks, and tank-like build quality that's much more resistant to wear than the DS4 and Steam Controller. I still vastly prefer the DS4's D-Pad and overall form factor. The XB1's curvy back puts more of the weight on your middle finger while the DS4's more balanced. Also, it doesn't want to remember the Bluetooth connection with my PC if I ever plug it in? That's dumb. Though the XB1 is better if you want to connect it with a cable because it doesn't become an audio device unless you plug something into its headphone jack, whereas the DS4 becomes an audio device when you plug it into your PC, and typically becomes the default device for some annoying reason.I missed out on the controller talk, but I feel like writing a little about it since I own all three controllers.

Huh, I didn't know IWBTG dev was making a Steam game! Another game to wishlist although I generally don't prefer 8-bit style... at least it's far superior to anime deviantart hole IWBTB (Boshy) dev fell into.
Another difficult platformer to look out for:
From the creator of Pogostuck, one of "Getting Over It" clones that's actually competent. Pogostuck has good functional online system and excellent obstacle design that forces you to learn new skills each step of the way, so I am pretty hyped about how Superku will turn out, especially it seems to be actual platformer with numerous variety.
One 2 (not the RGB). It says how to do it in the manual but..yeah that is like learning Chinese for me.

Page 42. Just remember to choose profile 2-6 before recording macro. profile 1 is the default and cannot be customized.
Although it's the mini and the keys for the macro combinations are a bit different, you can watch this to understand the macro basics since it's the same steps.
I primarily use X1 controllers. I have grown to dislike the Dual Shock 4. PS sticks are always looser, I don't like that. But one of my DS4s has developed annoying drift and another controller - one that I've had since near PS4 launch but has probably been used less than 5 hours, has a severely sticking circle button. Not to mention I have to use those thumbstick covers because they'll decay on you. I used to rank DS4 high but now I say they're garbage too. Meanwhile my X1 controller with extremely heavy use is just fine...
Also I dislike the Steam controller, I bought it for $35 or whatever and sold it to Gamestop a long time ago. I can't understand how people could like it (I gave it a good many hours try and loaded well regarded game profiles, etc...) I use a dpad way too much to ever like that... Even VR in 30 years will still need analog sticks.

I like the DS4 d-pad, face buttons, and bumpers. I'm not a fan of much else, so I use it as my 2D controller. There's this sharp edge right under the trigger that digs into my finger when I use the d-pad. It's lovely.
The Steam Controller is my everything else controller. 3rd/1st Person action games are wonderful with it. Old school games w/o controller support play great. I'm also a big fan of top down shooters that have proper mouse support. The Right Pad is just perfect. It's too bad Sony and Microsoft will never attempt anything like it. The right pad + gyro on console would fix what the right stick ruined.

Unsurprisingly I picked up Whispers of a Machine at launch. I'm a couple hours in now and really enjoying it so far.

The trick with the Steam controller is to turn off the need to click on the D-pad, and to set the haptics to high for both thumbpads for every game.

It's a shame that it's come to this but Era killed the Steam Thread a long time ago. At every turn, they've treated the the Steam Community as a burden -- a sizable base to help initially buoy the website at startup but not one they understand or sympathize with at any level. SteamGAF at its peak could have been its own forum and the moderation on the old site reflected that. But from its inception, Era treated the Steam thread like they were babysitting petulant children at best or dangerous inmates at worst and it's proved in the wannabe authoritarian and absolutist tone they adopt whenever they decide we need to be arbitrarily punished.
And while the gesture of promoting members of the community up to the moderation team was probably well intended, I don't think those members were ever given the support they needed to actually effect real change. Even when they admit to overstepping, it never actually feels like they've admitted they need to change. Every concession or gesture thrown our way has been to simply placate a considerably sized community and the increasing hostility towards the community means we're approaching our end of useful life after having been chipped away at for 2 years.
I feel bad for JaseC and Jaw because Era forced them into the middle, gave them no real ability to act, and practically used them as shields against a community that's been growing ever more skeptical of the site with every single PC thread.
Anyway, I could write about this for days and I'd be the first to admit that I mostly walked away from this stuff after the old site. Steamthread.com came out of a discussion that Nabs and I had almost a year ago to this very day. Clearly there's something wrong here and no one in a position of authority at Era wants to actually address it.
I'm not even interested in VR. I'm solely here for those knuckle controllers.
