Does anyone have old RE4 installed? It seems like it downloaded a 9gb update but I dunno why.

Yes, there was an update, but mine was only 100kb. Village and Re Verse also had an update (Yes I have all the RE games installed on my PC lmao)
Huh, I wonder if the update broke some files and it had to download the entire thing again.

I have a 12700K but that 7800x3d is tempting me, If I was to move to AMD that'd be the CPU to make me do it.
I don't feel held back by my current CPU too much for now anyway.

While I enjoy my playthrough of TLOU from a gameplay and story telling perspective, I will say the setting and the general cynicism is really starting to annoy me. It's just so overly grim-dark and I really don't care for the general message about the breakdown of basic human civility in a post apocalypse scenario. It just doesn't feel true to life to me, like the developers being so convinced about how quickly humans would turn into marauders, cannibals just all around monsters. Basically all institutions and groups are seen as either inherently dystopian or soon to be destroyed, there's no room left for hope and optimism, even the idea of a cure is never treated as something actually real, only serving as a false hope. It's just misery porn and essentially a blatant propaganda for the current status quo, whether the devs understand this or not. "Look, are you not happy to have Western Society! If it went away, due to some general pandemic or whatever, we would all turn into monsters and live like beasts!"

TLOU (and plenty of other videogames) are very typical amerocentric, white af, usually right-wing fantasies by people who consciously or subconsciously love to preach from the rooftops about american ideals, where the value of concepts like "liberty" and "security" above all else is paramount, and their protection by any means necessary a right and a duty. It's a pretty big part of the reason why I don't consider its setting or writing anything special really, if anything, there's a real lack of critical eye cast towards it because of its pretense of maturity contrasted with the rest of the medium.

Like, in TLOU2 Jackson is the prototypical, post-war white man's ideal of small America community. Tall walls and big guns protecting those same american values; where monoligual communities yearn for monocultural ideals of self-sufficiency, security and above all, fear of the other. Now, this is common in other zombie media and I'm not saying it's deliberately malicious, but it stands out even more when ND tries to insert visual diversity into the environment, when the result is pretty surface level and the way TLOU series handles minorities speaks for itself.

I may have been with you on this if I didn't watch people tear each other apart for toilet paper 2-3 years ago. And there wasn't even an actual shortage of that it was just fear and hoarding.

Well if the zombie apocalypse didn't ravage the entire civilization, Joel would just take a flight from Boston to Salt Lake City and the game would be over in 45 minutes lol.

I like the setting and the idea of the balance of civilization hanging by an invisible thin thread that snaps once a major uncontrollable crisis happens, and then humanity's true colors come to the surface when it comes to surviving in a hostile environment. I liked it here and I like it in The Walking Dead (First 3 seasons only lol). I also like the characters, their interactions, and the story in general (even if it's not a groundbreaking story, it's definitely well-told). What I don't like that much about is the gameplay loop, which for me (I admit this is very subjective) was kind of a chore, and not as fun, since it's not necessary to master the combat sandbox in order to get through the encounters, this just makes people take the easiest route to defeat the enemies instead of trying out most of the mechanics. Also the "puzzles" are just a minor inconvenience in your path. I also feel that TLOU pushed a lot of future games into becoming more "cinematic" instead of fun, which for me undermines the point of video games entirely, which is the interactivity part.

TLOU was inspired in Druckmann's desire of 'getting revenge on Palestinians' (his words, not mine), so yeah lol

Isn't it funny how all characters that represent minorities in the game
get brutally killed in what essentially is a war between white people.

Tank controls always made sense to me when the camera angles were fixed. Pressing forward will always move you forwards, regardless of how camera is framed so in screen and camera transitions you'd keep going to the correct direction. Of course they were not the most fluid control method of all time. The modern controls they added to the most recent RE1 and ReZero remasters were fine if you wanted to play the game that way, but they completely trivialized the encounter design.
Now, with the OG RE4, tank controls didn't really make sense to me anymore because the camera position isn't in a ceiling in this room and oh now it's near the floor etc. I wonder why they chose to stick with that scheme back then, it's not like 3rd person games were new and no one knew how to control them at that point.

How is Shadow of War compared to Shadow of Mordor? I liked the first game, but I read rather mediocre reviews about the sequel, especially because it would be to bloated with repetitive tasks...
It's alright. They streamlined the ending grind when they took the MTX stuff out. It's still the weakest part of the game by far, but if you are curious and can get it for cheap and liked the first game, I'd say the main campaign is worth your time.

Hmm, Stranger of Paradise has shit font from hell in French.
Just tried modifying PPP compatibility and it mayyy have fixed the font, but now my game is borderless but displays like a windowed 1080p.

edit. Fixed, now to see if the dialogs are legible.

To be clear, I'm not saying that there wouldn't be some violence in such a scenario of a break down of civilisation. I'm just not so utterly pessimistic that it would lead to a never ending cycle of violence, like TLOU is absolutely obsessed with. Even if we think that's actually true, why would I want to see a fictional world that is so utterly bereft of hope? As I said, the obsession of this game with suffering feels downright pornographic.
Reading about the devs views on the Palestinian treatment by Israel, is kinda unsurprising, must say.

It is actually a fun game, though, if I can shut off by brain and not think about the larger implications of everything.

The writing of the characters is for the most part pretty good, my issue is with the plot and how it portrays society, the incredibly negative view on literally any authority and the bleakness of it. I wasn't this bothered by this in my first 5 or 6 hours, but it's getting a bit much now that I'm in the last third of the game.

I picked it up and never looked at it till I got back to Taiwan and yeah I have never done any of this and everything I find is super confusing. I want to replace the default functions (from copy/paste) to other stuff...help
You need to use QMK.
Here's a visual guide, just PM me if that doesn't help. I generally just use the command line for QMK, and I'm not sure how much of that really works on Windows.

I'll never understand the hate for tank controls. They're perfectly functional, just takes a tiny amount of getting used to.
I did get used to them, I finished the game after all. But I still don't see any redeeming value to them. They don't add anything to the table except needless clunkiness. Imho.

The clunkiness in conjunction with the game being designed around it adds to the atmosphere and tension.

Yeah I always saw them as a necessary compromise for fixed cameras that change in screen transitions. Since I often love when games don't just stick the camera up the players backside all the time I see it as worthwhile compromise too in the right type of game. I'm less bothered about RE4s controls too, I can take or leave either there.

Attempting to play REmake 1 without tank controls while certainly easier in parts absolutely confused the hell out of me on some screen transitions. Tank having up always being forward is way easier for me to understand when that happens.


So yeah I'm on team Tank, along with Tim Schafer.

Update regarding original RE4 on the Deck.
If you switch to a mouse & keyboard control profile, and set it to use "modern" controls in game (which don't exist for gamepads) it gets a little bit more manageable...
Is this option only available on the Deck? I can't do tank controls, so i always bounced pretty hard

It sounds like the mouse & keyboard profile is one of the steam input profiles, so that should be available on desktop too.

Man this thing is shaping up to be something really special. It's soooo damn good.

After some hours it dawned on me that Everspace 2 scratches that Bethesda sandbox exploration vibe that so few genre peers seem to emulate.

Like you have your bog-standard and just fine AC & FC sandbox maps littered with icons and such. But none of them seem to inspire just poking around the space you're in (heh) to see what you can discover.

E2 is scratching that itch through dropping the player into unique handcrafted zones and just telling them to go find the secrets at their own pace. There's a critical path, but there's also a bunch of side content along the way just waiting for you...or not. Be it rando hidden loot or unique quests that are only uncovered through map exploration.

The best discovery maps don't push or penalize the player. They just say, "Hey, it's out there if you're curious." And they have the confidence to let you completely miss it.

And I won't even get into the incredibly impressive visual/level/world design and soundtrack. Just follow some vids.

Yeah, it doesn't take long with some titles to sense that they're gonna place on your end of the year list.

Everspace 2 is a lock.

Unlocked cat ears for Leon last night. 4:54, 14 saves. :coffee-blob:

S+ Professional is wild. The first 6 chapters are an unrelenting slog. Opening village fight is brutal, valley is ridiculous, Del Lago's a jackass, I got ammo starved throughout the Bella Donna sisters and Mendez fights... But once you get infinite ammo for the Chicago Sweeper, the game rolls over and dies.

This game's pacing is incredible. This was my 5th playthrough, and I immediately started up a 6th. There's such a good variety of encounters, and almost every one of them is great, and it makes it easy to just keep playing. (Except the Novistador ballroom/mine. They're tedious, but at least they're short and easy.)

I can't believe Capcom's out here trying to steal GOTY from Pizza Tower.

Btw, I keep getting these "you must accept cookies" messages on MetaCouncil since today. Not sure what that is about. I guess i block some scripts, so maybe that's the problem, but it seems like a recent change in the software

Modern is only changing the aiming afaik. Makes the aiming more "raw" like but still not raw, ever so slight mouse acceleration.

Just went back and saw you mean the original RE4. I still feel like not being able to walk and shoot at the same time is a valid design decision and adds tension but I don't feel particularly strongly about it. That game barely registers as having tank controls to me. I intend to replay it soon to compare with the remake, though, so we'll see if I feel differently about it now lol.

When I hear tank controls, I think mostly of the fixed-camera style of the original games where it makes the most sense. Playing the original REmake with that abomination they call modern controls is pure madness to me.

It sounds like the mouse & keyboard profile is one of the steam input profiles, so that should be available on desktop too.
I tried it on my desktop first, since I saw someone mention "Modern controls" for mouse and keyboard, and yes, there is a toggle for "modern controls" in the game settings.

So if you play with mouse and keyboard, just toggle it in the game settings and your fine. If you play with a controller on a desktop, I believe you need to enable a mouse and keyboard Steam Input profile to get the game to register your controller as a m+k instead, and then toggle "modern controls" in game.

I can't help but chuckle at how many self owns this game is having. No sympathy since it's a co-op looter shooter.

But seriously though, Xbox needs to bring out their big guns already. I hope Starfield will be a new start for Xbox.

Lots of Xbox consoles will have a new a start thanks to Starfield, on account of the game crashing them.

This is depressing. This news screams "We are not ready for release, but we will release it anyway".
There was a rumor not too long ago back when starfield was still supposedly being planned for a june release that redfall was in even worse shape than it was and was going to come in even hotter. Starting to look true now.
